Mei shakes her head and hurries along to catch up. "Just that they feel the same," she says, frowning down at the Ten of Swords before tucking it away. "About it not being over yet."
The dreamer retrieves her notebook and flips to what looks like a thought web of sorts, quite chaotic looking with small sketches here and there, though the lines all suggest things are connected in some way. "But I was wondering if the Star might have an archive? Of papers past? It might be helpful to see if there have been any similar incidents, right?" Her fingertip traces along one line to another. "I'd also like to check the Biblioplex for any texts on corrupted magic or infamous corrupters of magic, though..." she smiles wryly at the three, "that miiiiight get me on the no-planar-travel list, huh?"
((Can Mei recall off the top of her head any incidents in Arcavios history that might be similar in some ways? History: 12... evidently not lol!))
It takes a while to walk back all the way to the Biblioplex in the center of the Central Campus. The afternoon light has started to fade. But once inside the library you are quickly able to locate Professor Sharpbeak's office. After a quick knock on the door you hear a stirring inside. And a moment later the professor opens up the door.
During the walk there, Meiand Malvynhad continued their conversation. Malvyn does seem to recall Mina mentioning archives of the Star somewhere. Try as she might, Mei is not recalling any similar events from Arcaivos history.
"Did you hear about the incident at the Firejolt Cafe? There were colourful frogs and...", he stops for a moment and looks to Malvyn wondering if the tiefling was going to tell the story again, but getting excited and jumping to the end.
"There is another sample of black goo and we have a bullywug footprint", he blurts as he looks back up at the professor, unable to contain himself.
"Ah, yes, an excellent idea Mei, I do believe the Star has an archive that we could go through for similar events. I will speak to Mina about that." The purple-skinned Tiefling says with an approving smile to the dreamer. "Also, if I may I would very much like to join you as you seek the Biblioplex for texts on corruption of magic." He adds with an eager look in his fiery red eyes.
As they reach the Biblioplex, Malvyn walks straight for Professor Sharpbeak's office and knocks on her door. He gives Guardok a quick glance as the Genasi starts speaking but as he finishes, the Tiefling proceeds to explain to the Professor what he had explained to Professor Lang. "Here is the sample..." He says, offering the vial to the professor. "...I hope it can be compared to the other sample you have but I suspect it is the same type of substance. I also fear we will see more of these incidents unless we find whoever is causeing them and finding this Bullywug would seem like a good start."He suggests with a polite smile.
Mei plans to meet Malvyn at one of the study tables after he and Guardok finish speaking with Professor Sharpbeak, deciding it better to split their efforts. Approaching the reference desk, she rapidly recounts the incident in the cafe then asks after where she might find any texts or scholarly journals on corruption or forced anomalies in the fabric of magic. Barefoot, muddy, and hair full of leaves and sticks, she likely looks a bit... batty.
Professor Sharpwing responds to Guardok'sdescription of events. "Well, I perhaps have not heard. Something happened at the Firejolt Cafe? Colorful frogs?"
Malvyn explains a bit more to fill in the gaps, and it seems the Owlin follows a bit more what had happened. "You think this is the same as at Orientation?" She takes the sample. "Well, I guess we can take a look at least and compare the two. Now what did you say about a Bullywug? I don't think we've had many Bullywug students. Do you have a description?"
The man at the reference desk gives Meia strange look when she approaches. "Books about corruptions and anomalies?" he repeats, seeming a little reluctant to help. "Even with your tale, that is a large area to consider. But I think you are looking for transmutation magic. I can obtain a few general texts for you and see if that helps you to direct your search?"
As it is getting later in the day, it is about time for Mae to head for the Bows End Tavern to work. She prepares and makes her way there.
"Stands on two legs, has a frog-like head and frog-like feet", Guardok explains, giving a very generic description of a frog person. "If you haven't had many, then whichever one is here is likely the one we are looking for".
"We have the foot print, but if we could come into contact with any Bullywugs on campus we can perhaps find out if they know anything about what has happened. Is it possible to get access to some kind of archive to find out if Strixhaven has any Bullywugs this semester?" The purple-skinned Tiefling asks with a hint of excitement in his tone. "Meanwhile we would appreciate very much if you could ascertain that this is indeed the same substance we found on the toothy trunk in the Biblioplex."
Mei smiles and nods. She’s not sure that’s what she’s looking for, but neither does she want to seem ungrateful for the help. And, in any case, maybe that *is* what she’s looking for.
After receiving the books, she takes them to their usual study table and begins to pore over them, looking for any answers. It’s not long, however, before the chaos of the day catches up and she falls asleep with her nose pressed into the gutter of a book.
Professor Sharpbeak looks at Guardok with surprise. "We cannot simply presume because you have a print of a Bullywug that any Bullywug we happen to find is involved in what happened." She shakes her head, "I was meaning like height, or shape, skin color, or markings. Things we might use to identify the person." She nods slowly to Malvyn, "I can take a look at the school records and see if we have any Bullywug students. Although it is not like the campus is sealed off from the world."
"And yes, we'll take a look at your sample," she says. "It would be most interesting if there were a match, but we will have to wait and see what the evidence reveals."
Guardok looks at the Professor strangely, "How are we supposed to tell height, shape, skin colour or markings from a footprint?".
"And when you said you hadn't had many Bullywugs in Strixhaven, I assumed that meant maybe one or two at one time. That is why I suggested that if there was one currently studying here, chances are they are worth talking to. I didn't realise the campus was open to anyone though".
He throws Malvyn a little shrug, but says no more.
"Well, we mean you no disrespect Professor, but we do indeed not have anything more to help us identify the Bullywug in question. It is as you say of course, we can't know that any Bullywug on your records has anything to do with what has happened but if we just could talk to them I believe it could be quite helpful." The purple-skinned Tiefling says with a most respectful and polite tone. "We're grateful for any help you can provide us with of course Professor, we can return at any time you suggest to see what results you may have." Malvyn adds, then ready to seek out Mei again before paying Mina a visit, possibly back at the Firejolt cafe where today's weird events started.
The Owlin shrugs a bit to Guardokwhen he says the didn't have a description. "I wasn't sure if you'd seen anyone or not. A description would certainly be more helpful than just a single footprint. But if that is all the information we have then so be it!" She then looks over to Malvyn, "How about you check back in the start of next week. I can let you know what I find on Bullywugs and if there's any information on your black substances."
As Guardokapologizes for any potential disrespect, Professor Sharpbeak waves a feathered arm towards him. "Oh, it's quite all right. I didn't take it as disrespectful. You are just fine."
Piero, who had stayed with Guardokand Malvyn, nods to the Professor. "Thank you for the information. We look forward to you sharing what you find." He glances at the others, seeming ready to head out.
The purple-skinned Tiefling gives Professor Sharpbeak a polite nod. "Yes, we will return in the start of next week then." Malvyn confirms. "Thank you for your time Professor." He adds with another polite nod and turns to head out. "We should see to Mei first. Then I want to find Mina Lee about the Star's archives and anything else that might help us in the investigation." He says to Guardok and Piero as they make their way over to their usual study table, hoping to find the oracle there.
Guardok lets out a sigh of relief that the Professor hadn't taken offence.
"Sounds like a plan, Malvyn", he says in agreement with the Tiefling. "See you next week, Professor", he says as he turns and leaves.
As they head off in search in Mei, he reaches up and pats Piero on the back, "Good to see you are being a bit more sociable with your floor mates. I told you they were a decent bunch".
Mei is just where she said she'd be, face down in a book, lightly snoring, and seemingly sleep-writing as she scratches ink to parchment page with her quill.
The Professor bids you farewell and your small group heads for the tables, where they find Meisleeping. (Of course!)
Pierogives Guardoka bit of a harsh look as he pats him on the back. Though he doesn't say anything. As they approach the tables he speaks up in a derisive tone, "Of course. The girl has fallen asleep. Great deal of help she was." At Malvyn's comment he adds, "Perhaps we should split up? I don't imagine the Firejolt will be open much longer - if it even is still open."

If it is getting on toward evening time, then Mae would be out again and heading to the tavern for her nightly shift.
