"Mr. Capaldi was there as well then... That's good to know. Hopefully he has seen something useful." She mumbles to herself. Then her gaze turns once again towards Mirth "I have another question for you. Farmer Gourd spoke of a owlbear, did you see any sign of that? Or did you smell anything weird maybe?"
Mirth's tune slows, as if they're unsure. "There... was an odor. It was very strong. Not sure if it's owlbear, though. I also saw footprints in the dirt that didn't look like they belonged to Farmer Gourd, they were too big."
Knopper gasps. "A giant!"

The bard's tune leaps into a series of short but sweet notes, like bird calls, at Knopper's statement. Based on Mirth's raised cheeks, they seem to think Knopper's statement was funny.
"Farmer Gourd had problems with half of everyone, but I can assure you most people wouldn't steal the pumpkins - stealing those puts the whole village at risk of dark spirits." The music goes slower and moves into a minor key
"Thank you for your time, Mirth! I can't think of anything else to ask you. Unless someone has any other questions, I guess we can proceed with our investigation. We could try to talk with Mr. Capaldi or we could go check out the place where Farmer Gourd has been attacked"

Mirth nods and smiles. "You're welcome." They play one last little ditty, quite fast and high. Everyone can add a d4 to the next skill check they make!

Going off those rolls, assuming no-one rolls higher, you both walk the short distance to the edge of town. As you go, you feel the hair (or scales for Knopper) on the back of your necks stand up. Granny Nauseas's eyes are a little wider, and she's muttering to herself at the back of the party. Ahead of you, the cobblestone road leaves the town proper and snakes out over the hills towards Farmer Gourd's farm. You can see Farmer Gourd's horses and cart are still there, being tended to by Gayle, a middle-aged woman with white streaks in her otherwise red hair. Gayle is the village's horse breeder, and seems to be trying to calm the horses down still, handing them little sugar cubes and whispering comfortingly to them. You can see a few patches where the dew-covered grass is a little bit muddier, with quite a few sets of boot prints around the path. Most are on the side of the river, where there are more bushes, but one set of tracks seems to lead up the hill and away, towards the plains and the Kamiwoods beyond. However, Granny Nauseas seems confused by those tracks.
"Don't fall for it, dearies! Those footprints radiate illusion magic!" She says.
When Granny Nauseas mentions illusion magic, Mira will cast Detect Magic.
With Perception 17, you can easily tell the tracks are fake, and Detect Magic reveals them to be a minor illusion. However, you also realize that none of the other tracks nearer the riverbank go more than ten feet before looping back onto the main cobble path. The pumpkins must have either been taken away from the village magically, or transported into the village, you're not sure which.
As you are looking at the footprints, you hear a shrill cackle behind you. "Whodunnit? I DID! NYEHEHEHE!" You all spin around and see Old Man Pete Capaldi standing there, his back bent with age and his wide blue eyes staring... not at you, but past you. He starts doing a rather bad cowboy dance. "But what did I do? That's the question, you see!"
Mira whispers to Aurora, "I think he might mean 'pumpkin', not pineapple."
"I mean pineapple! An apple made out of minty fresh pine trees! Nyehehe! But the oranges? Those were taken by... what's their face?" The old man pauses, face wrinkling. "A man with long hair. Or a girl with short hair. Or a goat. Nyehehe!"

*Is it safe to assume that only Aurora hears Mirth right now?*
*If you look like you're wanting to talk to Mirth or are interested in them, you can hear Aurora and Mirth's conversation.*

Mira asks, "Do you have any idea on who might have stolen the pumpkins? Did Farmer Gourd have any problems with anyone?"

"Yes! I did indeed! The Sun got up and stole me pineapple! Nyehehehe!"

"Pineapple? What pineapple?" Aurora asks, clearly confused by his statement.
