I thought about this a while ago and then never did anything about it... Until now! This is a bit of a random idea, and might not work as well as I hope, but if you like the idea of a more unique game with a challenge then this might be for you.
Through some accident, your character has lost all memory. This means that as a player, you start with a blank sheet. I will have 4 level 3 characters that will be randomly assigned to each player chosen (more than 4 will be too chaotic. I'm also willing for 3 people if we don't have 4 interested). As you play, you will find out information you can add to your sheet. Some will be obvious (you can see a reflection and know your race, or even talk to each other about that), others you might find out by trying (successfully casting a spell, or finding a rapier natural to use). Sometimes things might even happen without you trying if it works with what you were trying to do.
Please do ask questions if you want more information, and if you are interested, please roll 4 d4 (separately) which I will use to determine characters. Please also include a short description of why you want to try this and why you think you will be a good fit.
If you are someone who doesn't really like rp this probably isn't for you as with the lack of actual character sheets, particularly early on as there is more information to find out, detailed descriptions of what you are trying is going to give you more help when it comes to hints.
Would all people in the group 'wake up' together? ie, can we help each other through out descriptions? 'wow, you look really strong', 'those ink stains on your fingers seem old'...
Will character sheets come later? Will you basically be doing the rolls for us here since we wouldn't know what things to add? Sounds curious at least.
I have to admit I feel the same a bit. Character creation is very fun. I wonder if we could have some input on the characters at all before starting. Even if only things like gender and race and personality. That said, I’m still curious to see how it would play out.
Gender and personality are down to you. It has no bearing on anything. I'm also willing to let people pick a race and just have the class unknown seeing as race will be discovered immediately anyway.

Yes you would be together. So things like muscles might give away a decent strength score. Exact number isn't known but it helps.

As you discover information, you can add it to a sheet (E.g, "pulling the bow back seems natural" means you know you have proficiency). You will roll without modifiers until they are known. Due to the nature of it, I'm also fine with a bit of metagaming based on your roll and if you hit/miss etc for your modifiers
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
This sounds interesting. I have actually thought about doing the same thing, so I would love to give it a shot. You know what, I am not sure if I am a better fit then other players, but I have a Solid grasp of the mechanics which I think will help when you dont know what you can do.
I actually toyed with the idea of running a campaign like this multiple times in the past, but I never got around to actually doing it. I'd be down to try it out with you, but I do have few questions.
The title of this post says that this is intended to be a test campaign. Does that mean this would be a one-shot? How long do you plan on running this one? I ask because I prefer long campaigns that focus a lot on RP so there is time for plot and character development.
Any plot hooks or in that could help introduce some thematic elements that the players (not their characters) could know so they know what they're getting into?
I love the idea of not knowing what you are good at and just trying to figure it out. I think it really encourages creativity. I would love to talk more about how magic and attempting magic might work as a mechanic in discovering what you can do. But I love the idea of filling out a character sheet as you go.

The test is because the idea might end up being terrible in which case I would edit the way it works.
In terms of how long it goes, I'm happy to go as long as people want. If we reach a point that you have ended up with a full character sheet, and you like your character, I have no issues continuing.

It's going to be kind of open world. I will probably have it so there is a yet to be determined larger threat, with some smaller things linked to it, as well as options of general things (find x, save y, defeat z) to help people for rewards.
I would like to join because the concept is interesting but also I like the idea of not knowing anything about the chracter. It is a true RP experience figuring out what your chracter can do, their likes, dislikes, why did they lose their memory, etc. etc.
Forgot to update and say people were chosen. This thread will become the game thread so that anyone who was interested in following along already will get notifications.
Your characters wake up in a cold room, with bare walls. A young tiefling is sweeping the floors when she sees you move and immediately runs upstairs shouting "Father! Some of them woke up!" As you look around the room, you see 3 other people waking up, as well as a few more people unconscious. You try to remember how you got here and realise you have no memory at all, not even your name. There is a large mirror on the wall upon which you can see your face, unfamiliar as it is.
Obsidian - Female Tabaxi
Dimir - Female Water Genasi
Matt - Female Bugbear
Antlan - Male Gold Dragonborn
You hear movement upstairs as you assume the girls father is rushing around.

I would like to play because this sounds like a really cool campaign idea, and I want to play more concepts that I haven’t played.

I love this idea! Not interested in joining (too attached to creating a character) but would love to be a spectator once you start playing!

Here are some numbers just in case:

I love this idea and would be very interested in playing. Let me know. Yay!!

If you are still open or would like to setup a second group, I would also like to join. This is a great concept.

Sounds good. Thank you for the opportunity.
Life got a bit hectic so will be picking tomorrow. Probably less than 12 hours time
