(sorry about not updating my character, I thought I had... had some issues with my computer and when I got them fixed maybe it reset my character to level 3 (a previous restore point maybe?)... anyway at level 4 Liafial would have 22hp so the initial attack would bring me down to 13hp and then the fall (with or without the 3 temp hp from Ava) would knock me out, and then she heals me for 8hp)
(the same order of events would apply even if I only had the 17hp from level 3... initial Roc attack does 9, then the fall puts me out, and Ava brings me back up to 8)
(hope this helps clear things up and will try better to keep everything up to date in the future)
@Steedling You are level 4! That happened when you all became deputized Bounders haha.
@Brian_Avery no worries, I honestly don’t look at your sheets very often and trust y’all to keep up wtih it even if you’re not uploading them in the drive constantly.
I discussed with Ava that RAW you can't cast two spells in the same turn, even if one is a bonus action. But I'm going with rule of cool in this instance so she can pop Liafial back up and nail the guiding bolt, but it won't be double damage. Basically sacrificing the crit in order to do both things.
Didn't expect her to finish it off but I guess the dice gods owed me some good rolls after all those shit saves. Can't tell if I feel bad for stealing the spotlight or vindicated that she got the killing blow after all that hahaha
So yeah I realized the way initiative happened this time was kind of wonky because the Roc rolled so high, you guys were all taking actions on your turns without knowing what the Roc had technically done just before your action. It grabbed you, then you attacked it with your sword in one round, and then it slammed you before you had a chance to make an athletics check. Which would have succeeded had Lah'thys not killed it before you got the chance.
Yeah, I thought it's first turn was flying overhead and causing the fear in some of us... which is why I tried to cast Mirror Image and begin Bladesinging, I would of done something a little different if I was aware that I had been grappled and it began to fly away with me (like probably try to futilely escape, so not much difference in my case lol)
The order usually works itself out though and it is still a good system for handling large parties. Sometimes we will lose initiative and other times we will even be surprised. Maybe we will even surprise some things, that's just how the game goes.
I appreciate y'alls patience and continued investment! Been traveling and working a lot lately, and going into this month I'm looking at a ton of work so the pacing will be a little slow for a bit.
You said the bird was diving down again, would that mean his in range for melee attacks?

Quick clarification, wouldn't Clermar have broken the grapple before being thrown around?

More fun to come, lol.

It's worth it for me, I like this story.
plus I now have 3 other pbp games I'm in, so if one or two get a little slow, I can still get my fix :P
David Gearlock | Human | Artificer | Revenge Heist
Knox | Warforged | Cleric | Shadowthorn's Out of the Abyss
I have a +3 to Survival, I could take the check
Clermar's survival is not good, he's a city boy.
Do Clermar and Nean still have reduced hp?
