Bug barely stirs as he is poked in the bulging belly. He responds almost sleepily, "... go way..."
Yatari pokes again. "Bug, what did you do?" Bug rolls his head to the side and opens one eye to stare at her, " nuthin "
"What did you do, Bug?" Yatari's voice held THAT edge which every child knows well.
Bug slowly rolls over on an elbow and works his way into a sitting position. "It was not my fault! I fixed their stupid kiln and smelter. I guess a little of dad came out around all that gold." He speaks in a faster, near frantic spiel. "I mean, it was just laying out on the table and it was so shiny and so small. Not my fault it disappeared."
"KAIA"
Bug cringes a bit as he stands up, "Fine. Here." Bug seems to be having a sudden seizure as golden mist escapes his mouth and seems to transform into solid matter on the tabletop. What finally coalesces is a lump of gold the size of a walnut. Bug slides closer to the golden lump and looks up with pleading eyes, "Can we keep it?"
Graw’s eyes widen as the golden nugget forms. “Well well well, what do we have here?” he asks with a sly smile. “Looks like you have some magic of your own. If I were you, I would just call it payment for your services. They’re probably not going to miss it that much.”
Varja stared at the golden nugget, curious about its value and if it could be sold more on the black market.
"It wouldn't be cursed, would it?" He touches the golden nugget with just the fingertip while ritual cast Identify to see if there is anything that couldn't be seen with the naked eyes without any buff to see the unknown.
Yatari - You see a typical brewery with stills in the back and the thick smell of hops and barley in the air. You also notice suspiciously that the wooden door down to the cellar has recently been barred and locked with multiple padlocks.
Varja - The identify spell doesn’t reveal anything magical about the mouth droppings. Although the smell is interesting.
Glowkindle has recognised the lot of you as adventurers now. “Please friends, If you could lend me a moment of your time, I would love to potentially recruit you for a small job”.
You can keep role playing if anyone wants to ask anyone else a question. Otherwise Glowkindle keeps looking nervously at the locks and barred cellar door.
Yatari looks at Bug's expresion "Well, if they didn't pay you for your deed I don't see the problem in taking it" she smirks, showing a slight wolfish expression.
She then stands up and faces Glowkindle with a serious look. "Would this 'help' have anything to do with that locked door over there, sir?" She nods her her in the direction of the door.
Graw stands with Yatari. “I have no gig tonight, my groups taking a short break so I’m up for a small job. What exactly would we be doing for you, and of course, what would we be paid?”
Glowkindle launches straight into a anxious and worried explanation:
To Yatari - "Yes, yes, yes, the door. Very observant" he seems pleased to be talking to a potential hireling so perceptive. "We had to lock it after the rats moved into the cellar. Big rats, size of dogs, and not poodles if you know what i mean, haha!". A very forced and frantic laugh.
To Graw - "Exactly what would you be doing?! You'd be killing those damn monstrous rats!" He's clearly very distraught, but at the mention of money he calms down. "Well I don't know how much money i'd have after today's poor takings..." he looks appraisingly at all of you. "How does 100 gold pieces sound?"
He has a way of asking that question that sounds very final, a savvy businessgnome.
Varja, after cleaning his fingertip, slowly looks at Glowkindle.
"100 gold pieces, for everyone here or for each of us?" He asks slowly, calculating the time and effort is worth 100 gp if it was split among the group.
"20 per person... that's not too bad if it really is just a pest control job. Now, when you say rats, how many are we talking about?", Yatari questioned as she stared at him suspiciously, her hand resting on the hilt of her longsword.
"Sir... is it safe to strike a spark in your cellar," Xa asks softly, "We will need torches to see and a flame might get out of hand, after all." He tries hard to look as non flammable as possible.
Suddenly a confused look come over his face. He looks at Glowkindle, "Sir, did you say rats as big as DOGS?"
To Varja - "It would be 100 gold pieces all up i'm afraid, i'm not made of money. And i'll only pay once the job is complete", he looks at you reproachfully for even asking the question.
To Yatari - "Just a simple pest control job, that's exactly right", he seems very well disposed to you now you've ostensibly agreed to the price. "I couldn't work out how many there were. I had some workers down in the cellar making a bit more room for some expansions to the brewery i have coming up. Apparently they came across the older wall up the back of the cellar. The idiots knocked a hole in it and these giants rats started pouring out. They all made it out fine but the rats have taken over the damned cellar."
To Xa - "Hmm, i hadn't thought about light, i usually use a lantern but the workers must have taken it in their rush to get out of here." He seems to think hard. "You can of course use fire down there to see, but just make sure to keep flames away from the barrels. Without my stock this place will be truly lost." He seems pretty serious about this point. "Yes as big as dogs! It may have something to do with the wizard who i bought the place off. Those ruins behind the cellar were part of his laboratory or something. Your probably going to have to head in there to find the rat's nest. I imagine you'll have to kill their queen or something."
Glowkindle seems a lot happier now a bunch of adventurer's are going into the cellar. He picks up a ring with a bunch of keys on it. "Here's the key's my friends. I'll wait up here for you all to come back." He holds out the keys with a grin on his face.
"Yes, I understand that there are a lot of rats, but some rat nests consists of as few as a 10 to as many as 100. So I would really like to know estimation so we can have a plan of action.", Yatari stress.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Graw nods at all of the information. “100 gold pieces would do it for me, but it seems like some of the others want a bit more.” He frowns at Yatari, before turning back to Glowkindle. “How about this: we each get a few night’s stay at this inn. I could also bring the other members of my traveling group, The Lively Lutes, to perform here while we stay. That would definitely bring in more customers, to offset the price of our stay.”
Xa looks around the room at the gathered individuals. "Giant rats. Maybe a secret wizard's laboratory. This should be FUN !"
His gaze falls on Grawdor. "Care to be a torch bearer? I can make it VERY bright." Bug's grin gets VERY big at the thought of playing with fire.
Tapping his chin, Bug looks to the tortle, "Varja, was it? What games can you play against dog sized rats?"
Bug nearly dances from foot to foot, "... and how fun to maybe unearth a secret wizard's lair! Bet there are all kinds of mystical, magical, marvelous things in there!"
"I would like to check all the books. I might be able to copy down some spells or maybe, if we're lucky, find magic items to use. I hope to find a Arcane Grimoire, +1. Would do me great right now." Varja said to everyone, then to Bug. "I could cast Mind Sliver, which should be easy to use on rats."
"Well... I don't really have any preference on what to do, but I was also wondering why the place is so empty."
Yatari looks around with her pale eyes scanning the surroundings as she leans back against her chair in a streaching motion.
She reaches her hand over and pokes at Bug's belly.
Does she see anything??
