"I will say it again. 100 gp is not enough for all this. It's good that we're permitted to take whatever we find here afterward." Varja spoke in a calm tone of voice, but he was secretly dumbfounded upon seeing more and more rats showing up, and he had no doubt in mind just an attack or two from those rats could end him if they managed to pierce through his shell.
As Cecily bends over to bring Yatari back up, Xa’s fire engulfs the rats in front of them. You smell cooking meat as the rats succumb.
Varja and Graw’s spells spilling into the room cause the rats to the side of the room to pause for a moment, but as Vatari rises, beheads one of their mates, and rolls back, the rats realise they aren’t getting through this way. The last two remaining rats turn around and run back through the hole in the wall behind them and turn right. This battle is over.
You hear the rats scurrying away. But then the noises stop suddenly with a shriek accompanied by a mechanical whirring coming from behind the wall. Now just silence.
You guys can do anything you want here post battle before venturing forward.
Apart from the barrels of beer, Varja also finds a stack of tools next to the hole in the wall. Probably left over from when the workers had to make a swift retreat from the rats.
Probably the equivalent of 2 Mason’s Tools if anyone is interested in grabbing one.
"Do we want to patch it or go in and kill more rats AND maybe find that wizard's hideaway?" Xa is still glancing around the cellar but ... smoke gets in his eyes.
"I say we make a door or something temporary to block it and we can reopen it again to deal with the rats on the other side." Varja let out a slow sigh.
Yatari looks around but there’s nothing more to find in this cellar.
As you look at the hole in the wall, you see that it would take a team of skilled workmen at least a day to patch it up. While the workers made the initial hole, the rats themselves made it bigger by pushing through all together.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Varja rechecked the area, but this time to see if he could find something to mix to make something along the lines of rat repellent, not just ordinary rat repellent, since they were dealing with giant rats, nothing ordinary about them.
If you successfully harvest a rats brain or it’s heart, you can make either a potion of giant rat control or an oil of giant rat killing to coat a weapon. Either would require a successful nature check to know how where to find the organ, then a successful medicine check to successfully remove it. It would then require someone with alchemy proficiency with alchemy tools a day to fashion the serum.
I’d say that investigation check would count as a successful nature check for one of the rats. So just a medicine check to extract the organ.
"I say we take a short break and try again.", Yatari closes her eyes in contemplation.
...
"What if one of us goes around town to look for an alchemist, the cost will obviously fall on Glowkindle... Speaking of which maybe instead of asking for more payment I think we deserve a lifetime supply of beer from him.", she explains.
Gear is playing a calming memory on his lute after the battle, when he hits a wrong note and hit’s his forehead with his palm. “Flat fiddles, I completely forgot I had that spell! This is what happens when you know too many songs,” he mutters to himself. Turning back to the group, Graw tells them, “So, there’s this spell that I have called Speak with Animals. I could use it to speak with the rats and convince them to leave this place and find somewhere else to invade. Or even better, find the origin of them and cut them off at the source. They leave or get killed, we get paid, and everyone is hunky-dory.” He grins.
"Either way, I know for a fact that there might not be any peaceful talking for too long. Since we killed some of their pals while they nearly ate Yatari alive. But, I have a question that suddenly occurs to me... what are the rats eating to survive at this point?" Varja didn't find any food anywhere in this area, which just made things difficult. "And why do they keep coming here in the first place when they might have found different exit routes from here to somewhere else, where they might have found a food source, but even then, they still come here? There must be more to this rat problem than we realize."
Varja carefully cut the skin off of a dead giant rat to use to temporarily hold the rat organs.
"Also, does anybody know how much it will cost to get an Alchemist to make us a potion of giant rat control or an oil of giant rat killing to coat a weapon? If it's too much, I guess we could just sell the rat organs itself for a small profit."

"Huh... I did not expect them to run off." Varja is dumbfounded at the sudden end of the battle.
"I hope they aren't running back to bring more rat friends." Xa looks around at everyone.
"Yatari... put your metal on! Anyone want to help see if anything of 'interest' is in this area while she gets dressed?"
Investigation (from Combat Log) = 3 :(
Flying up and down, Xa only sees barrels... and more barrels.
Varja carefully searches the place for anything worth grabbing or anything.
Investigation Check: 13

Probably the equivalent of 2 Mason’s Tools if anyone is interested in grabbing one.
"Anyone want a Mason's Tools?" Varja asks everyone while packing one of the two Mason's Tools for himself in case he needs it in the future.
Yatari quickly wore her armour... well as quickly as someone who just gained consciousness.
"Does anyone know how to patch up a wall?", she said while leaning against a barrel while looking around.
Investigation check 6
"Do we want to patch it or go in and kill more rats AND maybe find that wizard's hideaway?" Xa is still glancing around the cellar but ... smoke gets in his eyes.
"We can't just walk away now!"
"I say we make a door or something temporary to block it and we can reopen it again to deal with the rats on the other side." Varja let out a slow sigh.
"Barrels maybe?"

*Hoping for the best...*
*Well... What you know? One of you guys better have proficiency in Alchemist's Supplies.*
*Edit: Oh, come on... I just checked and no one has proficiency in Alchemist's Supplies? D:*

"Do you think they partake in canabalism or that someone else, like an outsider is luring them here?", Yatari pondered.
