One of the dwarves is the first to move. With a wild roar of drunken enthusiasm, he swings a fist at Snickerz that is almost as gnarled and knotty as the stone from which some legends whisper his people may have spontaneously arisen, even among the dwaves themselves.
Fortunately for his felinoid adversary, a little of the hapless bard's luck seems to have rubbed off on the dwarf now trying to punch him. Just as he swings, someone behind him knocks over a table with a loud crash, and the poor dwarf starts just enough that not only does he completely miss Snickerz' head (ATK roll in log: nat 1 ... !), but his own fist flies through a full circle thanks to momentum and inertia and a few more lovely folks like that and winds up hitting himself in the nose, which immediately proceeds to bleed.
Quite a bit. You wouldn't have thought the compact dwarves would be quite this full-blooded ... must be all that ale they drink ;>)
====================
(and Snickerz has an immediate chance to retaliate, being next in the lineup ... )
With a "Hissssss" at the dwarf, Snickerz performs two lightning-fast jabs to his throat. His fingers are extended but his claws are sheathed.
Unarmed Strike: 21to hit, 6bludgeoning damage (rolled in log)
Bonus Unarmed Strike: 17 to hit, 6bludgeoning damage (rolled in log)
"Bad dwarf, no more ale for you!" Snickerz shrugs over to the barkeep as if to say, "we didnt start this/just keeping the peace"
Snickerz will then move closer to his comrades, making sure he is within 5 feet of as many of them as possible. If they are attacked, he will use his Sentinel reaction at the first opportunity.
The dwarf collapses into unconsciousness with a groan as Snickerz' deft fingertips dart in to strike a nerve on his neck. The tabaxi finds no one to return his look, however. All of the bartenders have rolled up their sleeves and form the pummeling nucleus of a growing knot of conflict, together with the riverkin by the bar and a growing number of upswept bystanders. The subjects of contention seem to be whether Snickerz should ever have been hired, or if that first sour note was such a bad omen the barkeep who hired him should have known this brawl would inevitably result and not only turned him out but soused him in the Bay of Spirits.

When the second dwarf sees what happened to his companion, he roars in rage and charges Snickerz like a bull, trying to headbutt him in the gut. Meantime the big human, who looks more than half a pirate, tries to gouge Ardens eyes as he swings his head around for a bite at the ear. Meanwhile the half elf is looking Zania over again, her demeanor absolutely calm. ""Looks like we're the only professionals here. Up to you. I'll match whatever dance you want to set the step." She grins and eases into a trained warrior's ready stance.
Zania and Arden are up! The gouge missed Arden's eyes, so he can see, but the man's nails dug a nasty furrow down one cheek which is beginning to bleed. The other blows were near-misses.
OOC: Does the attack on Arden give Snickerz an opportunity to use Sentinel? He was trying to position himself so that he could defend his new friends.
Snickerz is confused at what seems to be transpiring in the tavern. The mood here is very unpredictable, he thinks to himself. How am I suddenly the bad guy? Regardless, defending his friends is a noble pursuit and he feels justified knocking anyone out who attacks him or his friends.
As the big human starts playing dirty with Arden, Snickerz shouts, "No eye gouging, hair pulling or biting please!" He performs a sidekick to the ribcage of the large man using his Sentinel ability.
Unarmed strike: 20 to hit, 7 bludgeoning damage (rolled in log)
Zania looks at the chaos and sighs. It looks like she's going to have to get involved. She nods to Arden.
The giantess stands up, but she doesn't draw her weapon... she reaches out and grabs the bastard who just tried to rip out a colleague's eye, attempting to throw him to throw him to the ground.
Athletics: 15 or 23 (rolled in game log)
(OOC: does grappling/shoving count as making an attack for the purposes of maintaining a rage? If it does, she'll go ahead and use her bonus action to enter a rage and thus gain advantage on the Athletics check)
The full nelson piledriver Zania applies to the pirate bosun sends him to the floor with a crash and a groan! He'll be a round getting up from that one ...
(IRL seems to be calming down, but I have a sad feeling I lost some folks the times I was incommunicado. I've been juat grabbing a couple hours between appointments to caytch up with things, but I'll DM Arden's player tonight and see if they want to continue and if so, if they'd like me to bot Arden this round or if they'd rather I wait till they're able to post)

EDIT: It is indeed with sadness that we bid farewell to GR_Mustang as Arden's player; and with gratitude I have received their blessing to continue the character as an NPC . To wit \/
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(one eclipse and a broken toe later ... this is getting ridiclfish ... )
Arden looks sadly at the pirate whose nails raked at his eyes. He so hated when things got down to this. Wrapping his fist around a small stone that seemed to turn up in his pocket at times like this, he aimed for the nerve cluster at the bosun's temple and struck a quick blow, hoping to knock him out.
=========
Unarmed strike 21; damage on hit 3 bludgeoning plus 1 bludgeoning from sneak attack (ally within 5')
followed by Nigel; then Sandy if she wishes to get into it; and possibly the most drawn out round in the history of D&D bar fights will be mercifully ready to roll over to round 2 ...

(depends, I'd say. WWE style grappling? Oh, SURE the rage can continue. Aikido, not so much LOL
