Vex peeks around the corner after hearing Wilhorn speak about the glass wizard being defeated and bring sup his hand-crossbow to fire at R2. Letting Dorah once again breath on his weapon.
I dont get to know the result of the die, just that it hits. So shield goes up, mage armor 15 +5 shield is AC 20, but it still hits. Remaining charges 3
Glass Staff (bloodied, -12)
I would think, Glass Staff had time to react before the killing blow from Eldritch Blast hit him. So, the staff prolly only has 1 charge left, correct?

sure, spend those charges is the right thing to do. The item requires attunement and will gain 1d6+4 charges in the morning.
We are waiting for Daewen to finish off R2 and then I can give you the final box text since Chapter 2 is over.
We should take a short break, spend some money and do side quests from here. There is a main side quest, if you remember, to find the heirloom neckless, promised from the prisoners, a few days past. As a child, she was driven out of Thundertree, because of undead, and she wants you to travel back to her family's shop to find the neckless, hidden under the counter, in a secret compartment and in a lockbox. The item may be worth something, or you may want to give it back to the NPC. Either way, I would love it if you aim to reach Thundertree after 4th level. So a series of side-quests to 4th level, before retrieving the neckless from Thundertree.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Daewen (aka “Darren”), standing just outside the doorway, also hears the mage go down, and rushes in, pausing just inside the doorway to reconnoiter the room and the enemy. Noticing that only a single bad guy remains standing, she attempts to send R2’s soul to meet with the Raven Queen by attacking it with her short swords:
Attack: 22 Damage: 9
Bonus Action- Two Weapon Fighting Attack: 24 Damage: 7

When R2 goes down, a hush falls over the castle as you and your party are the victors, bringing justice and peace to Phandalin. You bind up the remaining Redbrand Ruffian and bring him back with you to face charges and jail. The ruffians hold 75 cp, 55 sp, 22 ep, 15 gp and one of the ruffians is wearing two ruby earrings 15 gp each.
Searching the rest of the keep, you find a Wizard's workshop, from off of the common room. Glass Staff was brewing potions of invisibility and with an Arcana check of 15, you can collect the potion that is actively being made. One of the books is open to a page with the process to brew potions of invisibility. It is written in Dwarvish by Urmon named "The Lost Mine of Phandelver and the Forge of Spells." It outlines several of the exploits of Urmon and his allies. One section is particularly interesting, outlining a magical Mace named Lightbringer, commissioned by priests of Lathandar and created by the humans, gnomes, and dwarves of the Phandelver Pact. The mace was lost in the Wave Echo Cave. There is a large sample of dragon bile, a bottle of mercury, powdered nightshade, each worth 25 gp to the right person.
Behind the workshop is an office in need of organizing, with papers and scrolls everywhere. There is another potion of invisibility. 180 sp, 130 gp, a silk pouch filled with five carnelians (10 gp each), two peridots (15 gp each), one pearl (100 gp), one scroll of charm person, one scroll of fireball. And of all the notes and writings on his desk, you find one with a spider symbol as the signature
staff of defense with 1 charge remaining longsword +1, named Talon with the mark of Black Hawks 4x studded leather 8x shortsword a quarterstaff
Each party member gains 150 XP Each party member also gains 200 XP for a major quest completion
“So, this wizard was possibly Iarno? Sildar will be disappointed if it’s true. Help me drape his corpse over Drool’s back. We’ll take him and the ruffian to the Townhall and see if Sildar can positively identify him. We can also turn over this thug for their incarceration. Let’s bring that note with the spider symbol along.”
Wilhorn begins gathering the items and stuffing them into saddlebags or affixing them over Glass Staff’s body for transportation back into town.
Items he keeps on his person are:
the glass staff
the scroll of charm person, and
the scroll of fireball
”These two scrolls we can sell and divide the proceeds, if that is the will of the party. Otherwise, I might be able to use them later. The only item I covet is the glass staff. If everyone is ok with it, I’d like to keep that.”
Looking for juicy stories to tell her Queen about, Daewen starts rummaging through the wizards office, especially his notes and scrolls, collecting most of everything she can find (and not really understanding much if any of it). When she approached the wizards brewing equipment, she had a vague notion as to what it was used for, but magic wasn’t really her expertise (Arcana: 19) (if that roll exceeds 15, she’ll grab the invisibility potion, but if not, she ignores it, not knowing what it really is other than a pretty looking liquid).
She’ll then approach Jyin, pull out her little piece of chalk and her slate, bow deeply to him and then slap him on the back in congratulatory greetings. She’ll then write on the slate “My name is Daewen, friend. You fight well! How’d you like to join our crew on our mission?”

Jyin replies, "We will see. For now, it looks like we are on the same mission. Finding the Orcs who have been sending raiding parties is my goal, which lead me to Triboar, where I caught up with you heading to the keep. I am a member of the "Order of the Guantlet", we are all trained fighters, Good and True. Perhaps it is you who will join my mission?"
Jyin smiles widely and you can just make out that he has recently lost some teeth.
"Aye, it brings me great joy to see justice brought to those who suffer and those who sin. Let's bring these criminals to the local authorities and see what the townsfolk know of these orc raids. I still have quite a bit of healing spells I can spare if anyone needs help."
Jyin casts cure wounds on Vex and then on Daewen: 7, 9
After returning to Phandalin, you offload the bodies (both alive and dead) of the remaining Ruffians to Sildar who grieves Iarno's death saying, "What secret could drive an honorable man like Iarno to become such a villain? Let me see the papers so I can comprehend such treachery."
You stay in the Stonehill Inn where Toblen, the inn keeper and his wife Trilena give you free drinks and food and one night's stay in the inn. Toblen says, "Several people here want to shake your hands. We are all in your debt, some even owe you their lives. We are so glad that you didn't listen to Harbin, the Townmaster. You know, I may try running for Townmaster in the Fall. I'm a pretty good Tavern Owner, I might just make a good Mayer as well."
The next morning, you find Jyin waiting for you to rise. "Hello friends. I have been up since the dawn, bathing and feeding the homeless and outcasts of Phandalin. May you find nourishment at Torm's Table." You leave a few pesant farmers at the Inn, eating a hardy meal of bread and stew.
Jyin continues, "Now, I have an old adventuring friend who settled in these parts. I think he fancies himself somewhat of a farmer. His name is Daran Edermath and I have directions to his farm."
You follow Jyin to the farthest reaches of town to find a large apple orchard with a broken old sign reading, "Edermath Orchards." Walking through rows of apple trees, you find a small cottage with smoke plumes exiting the chimney and a silver haired half-elf, possibly the oldest half-elf you have ever seen. Daran sees you coming from afar and retrieves a metal shield from his house and walks out to greet Jyin, brandishing his shield with the holy symbol of Torm, they salute each other before laughing and embracing. "You have become quite the old man." Jyin jests. "Salt and Pepper in your beard, I could say the same about you too." Daran replies.
You are invited in and given a large breakfast of eggs, toast, and several varieties of cooked apples in a compote.
"Why have you not setup a guild hall in town, representing the Order of the Gauntlet?" Jyin asks,
"My adventuring days are over. Now my adventure is apples." Daran says proudly. "I heard you took care of those Redbrand Ruffians. I was this close to pulling out my longsword to show them some justice myself, you beat me to the punch."
"But I am glad you came to visit me. I still keep in touch with many informants for the Order, namely prospectors, not affiliated with the Rockseeker Brothers. They talk of the dead rising from their graves. You know, takes me back, when I was smiting undead with the rest of you paladins." Daran continues,
"War Priest" Jyin interrupts and promptly apologies, "Sorry to interrupt, the distinction doesn't matter."
"Well... Priest!... If you are as stirred up about the undead as I am, then you better head down the Triaboar Trail to the Old Owl Well. That ruined Watchtower is about 1000 years old, part of the Netheril Empire, way before my time, but you can't miss it, if you travel Northeast down the trail and then cut due East when you find the mountain pass. If you take care of the undead and find out who summoned them, I'll be able to sleep better at night."
"Might you have any supplies to help us in our quest? Maybe a bit of information about the Orc Stronghold in the area." Jyin asks
"If you need help finding the Orcs, you might ask my neighbor Qelline Alderleaf. She has a farm on the other side of my orchards, she's an old halfling, older than me and she's been here a lot longer than I."
"As for gear, all my magic stuff was sold to buy this here farm but here is my old adventuring chest, take anything you can use."
Inside the chest is several maps from all over Oerth, several dried out spell component pouches, and six potions of a similar purple hue. "Oh that's a case of Potion of Poison Resistance. You know, you buy in bulk thinking that you're getting a deal but if you never use it, was it money best spent? I don't know if you can use it, but take them, seems the magic is still good in this brew."
[OOC: Vex will take the extra potion of invisibility, I am sure he will find a good use for it. He will also add a potion of Poison Resistance to his inventory as well.]
Vex thanks Jyn for the healing and wonders if it matters who joins how if the mission is the same, he shrugs thinking again the thinking of man is off.
At night he makes a small bed on the floor for Dorah and then starts to pet and scratch her body, especially on her belly and under her chin. A deep rumbling purr escapes as she falls asleep and then Vex curls up next to her with his head using her side as a pillow.
In the morning they accompany the group as they venture out in town meeting with different people and upon meeting Darn, Vex is a little hesitant about encountering more undead as his last encounter did not go so well. But he looks around the group and is confident his new friends can handle the issue and help Vex if the need arises.
When he is back alone with his friends he will speak up, "We meet townsfolk and see about dangers around. Need to make," he pauses a moment looking sad then continues, "home safe before moving on. That way have safe place to return."
Down one farm over, you find a halfling riding an ox that's pulling a plow. Qelline Alderleaf greets you and says that Daran is an old stick in the mud. She says she doesn't know where the Orcs are hold up, but that her old friend is a druid who knows everything about the area. He recently settled in the dangerous ruins of the town called Thundertree. There are undead there, so be careful. I worry about my druid friend, named Reidoth. If you need directions, you can ask him. I worry about him living in that unholy place, if you could go check on him and maybe bring him some of my jerky and a care pack, I'd be grateful.
Phandalin's only temple is a small shrine of stones, dedicated to Tymora, goddess of luck and good fortune. You meet the priest of Tymora, Sister Garaele, a young elf zealot. She is afraid to complete a task given to her by the Harpers. She was asked by a roaming contact to visit a banshee named Agatha in the woods. They found notes on a long lost spellbook owned by the legendary mage Bowgentle. I was given this jeweled silver comb and told to play into Agatha's vanity. Give her the comb, they said, and she will tell you anything you want. But I'm just too scared to go up against a banshee. I have four potion of healing I can give you, if you can get any information about the whereabouts of this legendary spellbook, these potions are yours.
Your good friend Harbin Wester comes out to greet you in the middle of the town square. "That you for saving us from the Redbrand Ruffians." He winks and says, "I knew you could do it. My main concern is the Orc raiders, who were spotted so close to town. If you can go out to Wyvern Tor, a famous rock formation, we have scouts who spotted a band of Orcs there, just this morning, not that far away from here. I can pay you 100 gp each.
1. Orc raiders in a cave called Wyvern Tor, reward 100 gp each Edit. Old Owl Well, Undead seen by prospectors, quest giver Daran (And let’s not forget about Old Owl Well like our DM did. jk... LOL) 2. Banshee named Agatha has info about spellbook, reward one potion of healing each 3. Halfling Qelline wants you to bring a care pack to her Druid friend Reidoth at Thundertree, reward Reidoth might have directions to the Orc stronghold 4. Mirna was captured by Redbrand and she wants to pay you back with her family Heirloom, she last saw in a lockbox hidden beneath the floorboards in her family's alchemy shop in the ruined town of Thundertree, reward 200 gp golden necklace with emerald pendant 5. Wandering monsters on the Triboar Trail
1. Wyvern Tor 2. Old Owl Well, Undead seen by prospectors, quest giver Daran (And let’s not forget about Old Owl Well like our DM did. jk... LOL) 3. Banshee's Vanity 4. Druid Reidoth has directions to Orc stronghold 5. Family Heirloom lost in Thundertree 6. Wandering monsters on the Triboar Trail
Let's take a vote, I'll hold off rolling on the random monster encounter table until we finish one or two side quests and I'm fine if you just go to Thundertree first but I was planning to run you guys through it it as the final side-quest.
Wilhorn spent much of last night ruminating over the glass staff. Once he had determined its functions, he immediately took to attuning to it. On the morrow, he would officially test it out. He doffed his halfling sized studded leather armor, folded it neatly and stored it in a saddlebag. Not disappointed that he may never need it again.
He awoke shortly after dawn and promptly grabbed the staff. Indeed, it had recharged itself with: 8 new charges. Too excited to wait, he summoned Mage Armor on himself while still in undergarments. The air thinly surrounding his body flickered and rippled as the Weave knit a layer of protection around him. A smile, much like the avatar here, crept over his face. He dressed and adjusted the weights and packings in the saddlebags for Drool’s comfort and he headed off to meet the fellow adventurers.
”I agree wholeheartedly, Vex. These people deserve peace in their homes and surroundings.”
Upon meeting the townsfolk and accepting the items offered, he reminded his teammates,
”Drool can carry those items you don’t need immediate access to.”
(Team items Drool is currently carrying: 2 potions of greater healing, 5 potions of poison resistance, scroll of augury. Let me know if anyone would rather have any of those items on their persons and I will delete it from the saddlebag inventory.)
(Quest items Drool is currently carrying: Jerky and care pack for the druid, the jeweled silver comb for Agatha.)
Wilhorn extends one of the five remaining potions of poison resistance to Vex. “Do you want to carry one for Dorah, as well?”
Drool will continue attacking R3.
Attack: 3 + 3 (modifier) (miss)
Wilhorn sends another Eldritch Blast at the wizard.
Attack: 23 Damage: 14 force
Bonus Action: Healing Light at Jyin for: 3 hp
Movement: If Glass Staff is down, he circles around and picks up his staff.
”Your confidence was unwarranted.” He says to the pile of wizard.

Jyin wakes up and Glass Staff goes down.
Vex peeks around the corner after hearing Wilhorn speak about the glass wizard being defeated and bring sup his hand-crossbow to fire at R2. Letting Dorah once again breath on his weapon.
Hand-Crossbow to hit: 10 Damage: 8 Infused Strike: 4 Total: 12
Jyin stands up and casts cure wounds from a 1st level slot, 4+3 healing himself
As a bonus action, spiritual weapon will continue to attack R3, Attack: 24 Damage: 8

If you can go out to Wyvern Tor, a famous rock formation, we have scouts who spotted a band of Orcs there, just this morning, not that far away from here. I can pay you 100 gp each.
1. Orc raiders in a cave called Wyvern Tor, reward 100 gp each
Edit. Old Owl Well, Undead seen by prospectors, quest giver Daran (And let’s not forget about Old Owl Well like our DM did. jk... LOL)
2. Banshee named Agatha has info about spellbook, reward one potion of healing each
3. Halfling Qelline wants you to bring a care pack to her Druid friend Reidoth at Thundertree, reward Reidoth might have directions to the Orc stronghold
4. Mirna was captured by Redbrand and she wants to pay you back with her family Heirloom, she last saw in a lockbox hidden beneath the floorboards in her family's alchemy shop in the ruined town of Thundertree, reward 200 gp golden necklace with emerald pendant
5. Wandering monsters on the Triboar Trail
1. Wyvern Tor
2. Old Owl Well, Undead seen by prospectors, quest giver Daran (And let’s not forget about Old Owl Well like our DM did. jk... LOL)
3. Banshee's Vanity
4. Druid Reidoth has directions to Orc stronghold
5. Family Heirloom lost in Thundertree
