The conclusion to the Scarecrow Wars saw the flying citadel of Ish Alora crash into the city of Kholias, causing a giant explosion, decimating both cities and destroying countless lives. Now the continent of Toh’Riel is in chaos, with bandits and foreign interests threatening to tear the country apart. However, in the old capital province of Alaria, the ruins of Kholias have given birth to new horrors that the people of Toh’Riel have only considered in myth. Will a group of adventurers stop the Darkness below Kholias?
This is my homebrew campaign that i'd love to run for 4-5 players interested in stopping the Darkness Below.
Here are a few rules that i like to set up for my PbP adventures:
I'll be posting at least once a day, i'd love it if the players could do so as well.
Always try to 'do' something when you post. Roleplay and discussion is great, but character action is what keeps the game moving.
I may make a few rolls on behalf of your character. Only when necessary.
Here are some setting specific ideas for you to use when making your characters:
The land is in chaos after the end of the Scarecrow Wars. Bandits haunt the roads that used to be safe.
The collision of the flying city of Ish Alora into Kholias caused a massive dark magical node to grow in the ruins. Magic has become very wild in the province of Alaria.
Non-humans seem alien to humans: Elves are creepy forest predators, Dwarves are harsh dark militarists, Halflings are hick swamp people.
Agents from Niniasha are pushing into Toh’Riel, spies and assassins haunt every village and city.
In other regions of Toh’Riel, remnants of the Republic still try to keep law and order, but have given up trying to do so in Alaria.
Rumours of the Scarecrow having survived the wars and living in the Great Wild persist. If another war breaks out, Toh’Riel will perish.
This adventure starts at Level 1. You can do a regular ability score roll in this thread (no rerolling 1's), or use the standard array instead. Any class and race is allowed, but know that some compromise on your original idea may be necessary in order for it to fit in my world.
Looking forward to reading all your ideas for characters.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
A halfling monk who feels that a combination of commitment, discipline, and the synergy between mind and body is the only way to survive the chaos that surrounds us.
I'd like to join, i wanted to play a celestial warlock, but don't want to intrude on filnisk's territory (unless he likes the celestial/ horror opposite side of the coin aspect)
my second choice would be a divine soul sorcerer
Ability scores: 1871081016, hope I did this right
Warlock would be changing his criminal ways through the powers bestowed on him by a solar(angelic being)
Sorcerer would be answering the call to help others restore the chaos and bring harmony.
I'm experienced in irl D&D but never played PbP. Willing to learn
I'm totally fine with your idea, no problem in playing the same class. We could definetly tailor the characters in interesting ways.
Whatever the DM chooses is fine for me.
@drumdigby do you want to weigh in? love to hear from you
Nevermind.
If I'm welcome in the game.
I decided on the Will Eke'Alberti Sorcerer, Divive soul, with the Hermit background, Custom Lineage Human. Mostly a support/healer, but found some warlock secrets in his hermit years which he uses to cause harm (spellsniper: eldritch blast) https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/120206781
Hello! I would love to join your campaign. I am new to PbP but will do my best. I am unclear if we can play other races or if you would prefer humans. I am open to either. The main thing is I love to play clerics. So if that is cool with everyone I would like to do that.
Ability scores:
8,12,13,13,10,15,
I don’t know if the scores will come out correctly. I a learning how to do that as I go.
I'd be happy to run for multiples of the same class. Just make the characters y'all want to play. I'll probably wait for a few more people to put up their ideas before deciding on a group.
I've a question before I post a character: What exactly are the Scarecrow? Are they actually scarecrows, as in, the construct? Or are they something else? Are they things of meat or metal or straw or something else?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack

The scarecrow is a wood elf that started a war between the Elves of the Great Wild and the Kholian Republic. It eventually involved more than just those nations, and led to the Catastrophe

Posting interest, for such an intriguing premise.
Because I like playing support characters, currently oscillating between a Wizard and a druid / cleric. Probably leaning more towards the drelic (hah) to complement 2 casters and a monk (2 Tempest / x Arctic).
DM questions:
Are you flexible on posting rates? I sometimes travel for work and might not be able to post quite as often as once per day.
Is multiclassing allowed?
Is the custom origin option allowed?
Let's see what Lady Fortuna has in store for me today...
Can be flexible on posting rates. As long a you’re engaged with the adventure that’s all that really matters. Yes multiclassing is allowed. And you can use whatever character creation tools you have access to on dndbeyond

I'd like to create a Human Warlock, using the standard array for the ability score.
If it can be interesting for you, I could choose a patron which is one of the "horrors" below Kholias in disguise.
Level 1 DM.
Yeah that's a cool idea

Here's a character submission.
