(OOC: For the record, all of you are considered Proficient in firearms as of now, even though I've yet to figure out how to represent that in DDB at this point. For now, for those of you of a class that does not normally have firearm proficiency, we'll make sure to remember to add that proficiency bonus where appropriate. Case in point, Hildi's shot should be a 22 to hit, since you've only given it the +4 modifier from your DEX but you should also have the +2 for Proficiency.)
Hildi takes aim down the sights of his new pistol, the hovering sphere clearly in sight and definitely in range, and fires off a shot.
As the shot goes off, it seems that the sphere flits away just before it is struck.
Ever the calm cucumber when on the hunt, Night kneels down and tries to remember the firearm lessons they were all given. The cracks and bangs of the other faster shooters would not sway him -- would stir him. Only the target matter...
Bang!
Attack: 15 Damage: 3 (+4 b/c of dex… not that it mattered)
Night grumbles and mutters in giant again.
".... Fack'n -- what kind of a sweet pass was that!?"
Waiting on Edgar, then I'll roll for Jhess, then it's Phillandros. We'll probably only do this for a couple of rounds before I advance things, since it will basically take a Nat20 for any of you guys to hit this thing. It's small and quick, so it's got a damn high AC.
Edgar will walk up to the firing position, load a round into his pepperbox, create his dagger in his opposite hand and rest the pepperbox on it trying to steady his aim. (left hand holding dagger, and right hand pistol. Place barrel on back of left land and aim)
"Well, here goes nothing"
Fire!: 11
"Well, there went nothing."
Edgar will walk to the back of the line and use minor illusion to make a sad audience sound. Per none of the trainees getting the shot on round 1.
Hey, don't give up hope yet, Phillandros still hasn't gone!
Unlike most of you, Jhessana has multiple options when it comes to her choice of firearm. Seeing how well everyone has fared so far, she opts for her custom-built rifle, which for the most part looks similar to Night's musket but it also seems to have a rotating chamber for bullets, like the pistols that most of you now have.
Drawing the weapon up to her shoulder, she steadies her aim...
BANG!!! Attack: 14 Damage: 9
And just like the rest of you, her shot doesn't come close to hitting the target. She shakes her head, visibly frustrated, though a grin does show through on her face.
"Oh yes, it's going to be FUN trying to hit THAT thing."
Phillandros is up next, then we're back at the top of the round.
Vayn drops another round into the chamber and flips the gun shut, pausing for a moment, he searches for that little spark that sometimes seems to come as he fires a weapon. Then bringing up the pistol quickly he sights and fires trying to let instinct rule his movement.
OOC Spending 1 grit point to perform Deadeye Shot, which gives advantage to the attack.
As Vayn fires off his second shot, everyone pauses. For the briefest moment, it seems like time slows down as the bullet just BARELY whistles past the orb without an impact, though you could swear that the orb actually bobs up and down a bit from the displaced air of the shot.
Jhessana lets out an appreciative whistle. "Damn, that was a nice one!"
(OOC - AIn't gonna lie. I half-expected the rage out to involve throwing the gun instead. :P)
After seeing so many misses(prior to the current round), Night gets back some of his calm enough to even let out a chuckle. It is, however, a poorly timed one. He will quickly averts his gaze at first as the bugbear storms back to the group, and then mutter something along the lines of "I-I'll just go get t-that"before attempting to retrieve the hand axe. In an uncanny burst of speed, he rushes back and forth, returning and placing the weapon respectfully at the bugbear's feet.
With that out of the way, he strides back into his old position, and puts the finishing touches on reloading the musket. And again(if ignoring mechanical rules for firearms barring misfire), he kneels in readiness to fire. Otherwise, he'll continue to prepare the musket.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
For the purposes of this training exercise, we'll say you guys that have to reload DO have time in between rounds to do so, so you DO get your shot now (though unfortunately it's another miss). In normal combat though, you will have to abide by the musket's Reload 1 property.
The dwarf, chuckling openly about how no one can seem to hit this thing, takes another shot with his new pistol in hopes of doing better than his first shot.
Attack: 7 Damage: 8
And while the shot is indeed MUCH better than his first, it does not strike true on the small, flittering target.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Edgar will walk up to the firing line, prep his shot again and take aim with the pepper box , but this time pointing the dagger tip at the orb as well.
"Maybe im not used to exactly where this gun will aim,"
Edgar uses the tip of his blade to sure up his sights..... Nope the gun sight is immaculate. He just missed last time.
"Lets try again"
Attack: 18
Damage: 10
Ooc: Crit, i freaking crit!
Edgar will use minor illusion to make the sound of glorious fanfare!

Dietrich follows suit and takes aim.
Attack: 23 Damage: 5
The sphere once again remains completely unscathed.
Initiative: Hildi, Dietrich, Vayn, Night, Gimmur, Edgar, Jhess, Phillandros
Seeing the others take their shots Vayn draws his pistol, and aims, and pausing only briefly fires a round down the range at the tiny target.
"I see you" he whispers as he fires.
22 for 10 damage
21 for 9 damage
OOC Didn't work the first time so I tried it again, then the first one worked too - both missed anyway so nevermind!

(I did say this could take a while...)
Next up is Gimmur.
Edgar clenches his fists and starts to cheer for Gimmur in dwarven. "Moon... Moon... Moon... Moon..."
Ooc: is there any obvious specialness to the word moon in dwarven, or is that just a Gimmur thing? I can do a history check if required.
Moving things along, since Aramalian told me in PM that he's actually on vacation for the next week, so his posting will likely be spotty.
Gimmur opts to try out his new pistol, sighting down the barrel at the flitting target.
Attack: 5 Damage: 4
OOC: The M-O-O-N stuff is a reference to the Tom Cullen character in The Stand.

Phillandros finally realizes everyone is watching him, he stops tugging at his uniform, grabs Hacknblast, and marches down range toward the target.
(OOC - y'all have nice ranged weapons.....mine isn't)
When he gets to about 15 yards from the tiny ball, he hefts the big weapon up to his shoulder, sights down the barrel and
"BOOM!"
A large cloud of gunsmoke erupts from the end of the weapon......
[Hacknblast (shot): 14 Damage: 11]
As his shot sails wide as well - he gives a mighty roar of frustration, draws a handaxe from his belt and throws that at the ball
[Handaxe (thrown): 5 Damage: 7]He then roars again in frustration as his handaxe goes soaring off in to the weeds and stomps back to the rest of the party.
