Xaul notices the door slam shut just after all the fog commotion goes off (though no sound of it getting locked). Everyone else manages to get inside (though Skye is inside the ring). You all went in expecting an ambush so I am not counting you as surprised in terms of them getting advantage, but they do get to go first. Three arrows are fired at the fog, two miss, while the third hits Kylaskifor 4 damage. A sword also swipes just next to her ear, narrowly missing her.
Combat has started. Everyone take your turn in any order you like. Due to fog cloud, the area is heavily obscured. But mechanically this just means you don't know what you are fighting. Attack rolls are still straight rolls (Advantage for them not seeing you, cancelled out by disadvantage for you not seeing them)
This is the first time Kylaski has been hurt since she first appeared. And she did not like it one bit! So she shares some of the secret's man was not meant to know with the man who shot her with some Dissonant Whispers, "¥œ∂£ßçæΩ"
(The spell description doesn't say you have to see a creature to choose them, just that it has to be in range and able to hear., so I'm assuming she can target the one that hit her.)
6 psychic damage on a failed save (well below average :-( ) and must use reaction to move as far away as it can. DC 13 Wis save for half damage and not moving away.
#165 >> Damros will attempt to move sideways until he escapes the fog.
Coming out of the fog will make him a prime target.. so he will not 'just walk out'. He will see the edge of the fog and basically pull a parkour move... springing forward into a tuck and roll so he is close to the floor and not 'upright' - in the hopes he can get to some cover away from the fog.
Damros will still attempt to fling his crowbar 'helicopter style' and hope like hell he does not clobber one of his companions!
Crowbar spin attack! To Hit: 1 Dmg: 3
Once 'tossed', Damros will attempt to move sideways until he escapes the fog.
The crowbar smacks into the wall. The fog extends all the way to the wall to the right (5ftfrom the door) and so you follow it round leaving the fog (20ft radius so can leave it). You can't see any enemies, they are all in the fog.
6 psychic damage on a failed save (well below average :-( ) and must use reaction to move as far away as it can. DC 13 Wis save for half damage and not moving away.
You hear a screech and some movement away from you. Damros sees an avian figure leave the fog on the far side from the party.
As Skye lands in the room, she listen closely for any overheard conversation, trying to get a sense of how many are fighting and how near they are.
[In log: Perception: 6, Investigation: 16, if either needed]
Hard to tell. They sound like they were caught in the fog, so within 20ft of the door. There is at least one by the door as it slammed shut. And you heard a few bow strings twang. At a guess, 3-6 enemies?
Xaul rushes to swing open the door, then seeing as he can’t identify anybody in the fog, decides it’s best not to attack at risk of hitting an ally. Instead, he continues to hold the door open, and sends in a mage hand to feel about for enemies or objects in the gloom.
Would Xaul carefully open the door, or slam it open? Depending on your answer, check the appropriate spoiler (before posting what you do as it might have instructions)
Carefully:
You feel something against the back of the door, some resistance that vanishes.
Slamming:
Roll a d6 as you hear a squawk from behind the door
The fog extends outside the door (seeing as was cast just inside), and therefore Xaulis still heavily obscured. Which is useful as he feels the resistance behind the door squeeze out, and then a figure walks around to in front of him and tries swinging a sword. 18to hit, 5damage.
Three more arrows get fired. The one out of the fog hits Damros (22 to hit)for 8damage. One ends up skimming past the creature attacking Xaul, with a squawk of annoyance. (nat 1. But I don't make you hit allies so they won't hit theirs). And the third one misses Kylaski and lands near the ring, Skyehearing the arrow clatter on the floor.
(Ignore the D6 I rolled in log, that was for Frostbite but I forgot it needed sight)
Xaul casts Destroy Water to remove the fog in a 30 foot cube, opening his flask just a smidgen to allow Humid Oasis to drain the area, sucking in the nourishing droplets. He then is able to get a better look at the opponents he’s up against.
Everyone (except Skye) can see more suddenly. There are 4 avian creatures fighting you. One is in the doorway, two are about 15ft back, and the 4th is 45ft away. The room is 80ft long, and you are currently in the bottom 10ft of the room. Tables and chairs have been carelessly tossed across the floor. The corpses of a dozen men lie along the walls, their rapiers and daggers lying nearby. On the north side of the area, stairs rise to an open level above.
Damros moves to the thinner edge of the fog on the right and takes a chance springing into the open air. Mid move he felt a solid thump into his chest and his breath was taken away. A quick look down and he saw the shaft and feathers of an arrow deeply embedded in his chest. "Well... damn," he wheezed as he looked at his attacker; pointed his finger and spoke an arcane word of power.
Now the fog has cleared, the bracelet has landed about 20ft in, opposite the door. So the same distance away from the enemies (who were on the left side of the door).
Damros sends flames from hell back at the avian creature, who screams as they burn up and collapse, dead. He is able to find some cover behind a broken chair.
Skye stands from the low cushioned seat, listening to the sounds of battle around her. Her eyes linger a moment on the tall glass pipe that stand invitingly before her. She could just stay here…
Until her new companions were defeated and the magic of the ring ejected her into a hopeless situation.
With a wiggle of her nose, she lets the magic of the ring eject her into the space nearest the thrown arcane focus. Her misty form filling and rising so that as she solidifies her rings and bracelet are firmly back on her fingers and wrist.
Arm outstretched, she pauses only a moment at the scene. She points at the nearest enemy, and speaks, and a thundering sound rings out from a flash of stormy cloud.
