MB's Out of the Abyss 2.0

A few of the hits connect, but the thing is still up and looking even angrier.

Everyone may act!

Edwin:

Even though his rage dulls the impact of the vulture’s claws, the poison hits Edwin full force!  His familiarity with the hand axe helps Edwin seize upon an opening in the demonic creature’s defenses—can he capitalize?

(Rage reduces claw damage from 7 to 3, but all poison gets through.  Vex weapon mastery gives Edwin advantage on this next attack).

Handaxe Slash:  Attack: 19 Damage: 8

Dagna tries another fire bolt, hoping to do more damage this time.

Action: fire bolt to hit 21, damage 4 fire

Nacht fires another skull. 

To hit: 6

Damage: 15 (force)

*wait that damage is wrong, it should be 1d10+2*

*Not that it matters, can I start rolling dice just using the game log? This is my fourth nat 1 in just as many days*

Edwin's axe once again strikes true, drawing more black ichor from the creature's body. Dagna's firebolt hits...but doesn't seem to affect the creature as much as it should (almost like it's resistant or something). Nacht, still recovering from the pool ordeal, can't seem to land a hit.

(You can definitely roll in the game log for the future!)

Karys brings her sword down on the vulture again.

Longsword Attack - 24 to hit, 7 damage

The creature bellows as Karys strikes true, and while it's now bleeding copiously, it's not dead yet. It takes another shot at shredding Edwin, and also takes a swipe at Karys:

Edwin: Attack: 20 Damage: 9 plus 15 poison damage

Karys: Attack: 16 Damage: 14 plus 10 poison damage

"Resistant to fire, eh?" Dagna huffs, steeling herself for a moment before moving into melee.

Action: shocking grasp to hit 20, damage 5 lightning

She then backs off while the creature can't make opportunity attacks.

And connects with both...Karys and Edwin fall to the ground.

Elspeth, seeing her fellows fall, appears to make a decision as her brow furrows. She looks back at the rest of the group, tossing her warhammer and shield behind her. Please...take these...take them back to Gauntlgrym. Give them to my father. Good luck to you all. With that, she pulls out a dagger, jumps on the creature, and climbs up its back, sticking it with the dagger wherever she can. Screeching, it takes flight, taking Elspeth with it, trying to reach her with its long neck. They quickly disappear.

Combat is over.

Dagna stands frozen, her breath caught in her throat as she watches Elspeth vanish into the dark, clinging to the creature’s back, her war cry fading into the buzzing roar. The warhammer and shield clatter at her feet, but for a heartbeat, Dagna doesn't move—just stares, stunned.

Then the spell breaks. She drops to her knees beside Edwin, her bloodied hands already moving, trying to staunch the bleeding, fingers trembling but focused.

Medicine: 19

Nacht rushes to Karys, trying to use tendrils of void to stitch the wound together.

Edwin:

Again the claws rake him, and as the poison courses like fire through his veins, Edwin’s vision fades to black and his rage dissipates.  Hatchet clattering to the ground quickly followed by his limp body, the determined warrior lies bleeding until help arrives.

Karys takes a grievous wound, compounded by the poison flooding through her veins. She falls to the ground, her body going limp.

((Did the vulture seem resistant to the lightning damage too?))

(Yes, it only seemed to affect it half as much as it should)

Edwin and Karys both stabilize, coming back around with 1 hp each. The shrieks and buzzing of the creatures seem to be moving away from you, and the cavern is starting to quiet. You stand next the pool, on which floats the remains of a gray ooze. There are tunnels off the cavern that you can see to the north, east and west.

Edwin:

Waking up, Edwin sees the shield and Warhammer on the ground and asks, "Where's Elspeth?"

When he finds out, he nods solemnly and says, "Let us make the best of her sacrifice and go down one of these tunnels."

Picking up the shield, he says, "I shall wield this in honor of her sacrifice...Shall I carry the Warhammer as well?"

Dagna shrugs. "Seems in good hands with you, Edwin." She looks at the tunnels, trying to discern any difference between them. "We just need to find somewhere to rest."

Nature to try to recall anything about caves that might help: 19

*cmon if I can navigate deepnest mapless Nacht can find a tunnel to go down*

Nacht looks around its surroundings, deciding on a path to tread.

Survival: 5

(Are our hands still bound?)

Karys wakes up with a groan. "I really hate it down here," she complains.

When she finds out that Elspeth is gone, her face falls. "She saved our lives..." Elspeth notices the gear she left behind and shrugs at Edwin. "I can use the warhammer, but I prefer to wield two weapons instead of a shield. Risky but sometimes the best defense is a good offense." She winces as she glances down at her wounds. "Although that hasn't been the case here lately."
