"Ferry seems absurdly expensive. If we walk, it'll cost us 10 sp in rations. If we take a coach, 15 sp plus a day's rations for 20 sp and we get there tomorrow. If y'all go for the coach, I won't have a choice or be left out, but I be ok walking too. The ferry can shove it."
Seeing the group that just left the job board, Zusag heads in their direction. When he gets near them, he asks the half-orc in the group, "Were you just looking at the job boards? There seems to be a lot to do in this town and it would be wise to have allies."
"We're headed to Village of Southford, which has played host to a recent string of ghastly killings. The alderman's offering 500 silver to put a stop to it. If we need to provision ourselves before heading out, we should do so. I have about ten days worth of rations, but I'm also a decent hunter. What skills do you have?"

Having got your bearings the four of you shoulder packs and head out of Alandale. Outside the city there are farms and pastures for miles around. The cobble streets of the city soon give way to dirt roads.
Past the densely packed farms outside the city the rolling meadows and plains of the valley open up, dotted with the occasional copse of trees, and small tenant farms. The road is busy, plenty of people moving goods or traveling. As the day goes on the weather improves, spring is in full swing. As you get further away the towers and banners of Alandale fade into the distance and you encounter fewer and fewer travelers.

(OOG:)
If there's no encounter your journey is safe, night begins to fall and you make camp, decide on a watch rotation, I will use that as the standard so I don't have to ask you all the time. If you wanna set up camp in a special way, put out hunting traps if you have them, alarm spells or what have you, or if you have any tool proficiencies you'd like to use during camp like cooks tools or something, or any roleplay exchanges you wanna have go right ahead. You all have darkvision so you don't need a campfire or torch to see at night, but it'll still count as dim light which'll give -5 to your passive perceptions. Btw loving this party composition, ya'll are just 700 pounds of HP, muscle, armor, weapons, and darkvison.
OOG: from now on unless you tell me otherwise I'll use this watch rotation, Zusag, Dredmor, Kreeng, Gimdir.
The sun sets on your first day in Southern Valemark. You polish off the last morsels in your day's trail ration and wash it down with some swigs from your canteen. As you lay out your bedrolls on the grassy earth the last bright fingertips of the sun slip behind the western hills and the blanket of night spills over the valley. The imperiled village of Southford, and their promised silver is less than a days march away.
Travelers can never be too cautions, particularly when traveling the frontier, watches will need to be kept through the night. Zusag hefts his greatsword and keeps vigil over the makeshift camp.
Zusag's watch is uneventful.
Dredmor takes up his watch.
As Dredmor keeps watch, 2d6 giant wolf spiders looking for prey attempt to sneak up on the camp.
Number of Giant Wolf Spiders: 5
If there are five or less spiders they will not attack, choosing instead to hunt for more vulnerable prey.
Spider stealth rolls
Spiders roll stealth vs Dredmor's passive perception. (not all spiders presented here will exist, I'll only count off from A the number of spiders indicated by the 2d6 roll)

Spider D:14

If there are five or less spiders, they withdraw, the night goes on as usual, and you begin traveling again in the morning. If there are 6 or more spiders they will try to eat you.
OOG:
This is a random encounter, the creature type and number of creatures is random. Depending on the creature type and how many, a random encounter can be a pushover or a life and death struggle. When and if a fight starts going pear-shaped exercise wise judgment when deciding whether to "fight to the last man" or "live to fight another day"
Dredmor, where are you keeping watch from? A 15 foot tall boulder is 25 feet away to the left of your camp. The main road is 20 feet away ahead of your camp. A small copse of trees is 15 feet to the right, and a razorvine thicket is 5 feet behind your camp. And do you have a torch, lantern, or campfire lit/smoldering?
An uneventful night passes. In the morning you pack up your camp and prepare to head back out on the road. In the light of dawn Dredmor notices the tracks of five Giant Wolf Spiders close to camp, looks like after sizing up the camp they decided to search for weaker prey.
Closer to Southford you find more farmsteads and windmills, and start meeting more people on the road.
Looking at the tracks pointed out by Dredmor, Gimdir sniffs towards the others and says jokingly, "Ha! Your reek confused them. They probably thought you were dire skunks!" Gimdir proceeds to laugh heartily, but his glee comes off as a bit unhinged.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As you round a bend in the road Southford comes into view. The village has a simple stone wall topped with wooden ramparts. Old, worn flags hang limply from the gatehouse, rustled occasionally by a stray breeze.
The guards in the gate house watch you suspiciously as you enter the village. Inside the mood is glum, cautious eyes watch you from the windows, a few workmen sit under the porch in front of a tavern and glare at you. The handful of people moving about the main street all watch each other warily. The only sound that pierces the ominous quiet is the sporadic barking of dogs. The entire mood of the village is dark.
You approach the Alderman's manse, a nicer two story house surrounded by the administrative buildings of the village, barracks, prison, chapel, tax office, and so on.
In front of the prison a group of 5 peasants are standing in the street, they grip farming tools, but their demeanor tells you they're not planning on farming. The ringleader calls out to a dwarf standing in front of the prison door, "You can't keep the Tiefling safe forever Rurik! We know he's guilty and you know it too. Let him out and we'll deal with him"Rurik grips the handle of the flail hanging from his belt and lets out a growl, the rabble quickly disperses, the ringleader points his pitchfork at Rurik and yells "We'll be back!"

Kreeng waits patiently for orders from the newly semi elected leader,Dredmor.
