Just noting: I could make Cordelia Moon go Fighter and have the feat skilled or something.
I'm picturing her like a battle butler/maid, except you know... someone's assistant! Constantly sighing, adjusting her glasses when she is scheming, and all the fun tropes that come with it.

I've only seen the first Harry Potter film, so I'm not terribly sure how Snape and Dumbledore fit into the whole Arcane Scientist thing. But I feel like Aldric's character would always be working on projects that no one else would even think of doing, trying to find the answers to hidden mysteries that his superiors would likely deem a waste of time and resources.

Thanks, @Oddlot! Everyone is still in the running! I don't mean to set up hopes; I've certainly been there (over and over again) in life and it's not a great feeling. If there's a hue and cry after I close the submission process then I'll do a bit of soul-searching and try to find the strength for a second campaign
Sounds fun, I think I got a guy in my back pocket!
Name: Lil’ Big Tony Age: 30 Race: Goblin Class: Monk Archetype: Officer Desired Background: Criminal Alignment: Lawful Neutral Backstory: Lil’ Big Tony is the 17th born son of the goblin mafioso, Big Tony. While his family often engages in what one might call “extra-legal” activities, Big Tony also knows how to keep in the local law’s good graces by having his sons assist as informants. Through the Tony family, law inforcement has captured dozen of well known criminals and taken down multiple other illegal crime rings and Lil’ Big Tony’s been keen on getting in on some action. Overall, as the youngest of his family, Lil’ Big Tony is a little guy with big aspirations, big expectations, and... well a “mildly” above average temper. Description of how they look: Standing at 3’7”, Lil’ Big Tony is not the most imposing figure in the world, or really any world for that matter. However, what he lacks in size, he makes up for in bravado. He has slicked back, black hair, ruddy orange skin, a mouth full of razor-like fangs, and in style that can only be described as “pugilist-cheque.” He commonly wears simple cloth shirts along with some well-worn suspenders. He doesn’t have much need for armor, as not many people can actually hit him in the first place. Ah, the joys of being the little guy...

Sorry, I did my best to circle in a reference that seemed most likely to capture the online D&D crowd. Let's say it's a spectrum that lies between the lovable and dotty (e.g., the absent-minded professor) and the skilled and laser-focused (maybe The Bride (Uma Thurman) in 'Kill Bill', but... science).
Name: Perspicacious Age: 34 Race: Mammon Tiefling Class: Rogue (Mastermind) Archetype: Executive Desired Background: Courtier Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Backstory: Perspicacious knows her name is arrogant and that's fine with her. She did choose it herself after all. Though not noble herself, she earned her name through shrewd business dealings with nobles in courts of various cities, making herself rich by making them richer. Quite a job, playing around with other people’s money. She'd almost call it stealing, if it weren't all perfectly legal. Most of it anyway. Description of how they look: Perspicacious presents a calm business-like demeanor at all times, dressed in fine attire befitting a courtier. Her eyes are yellow, and highlight the gold tint of her dark red skin. Her horns are lighter red at their base, and then gradually darken to a solid black at the tips as they curl back in a single loop on either side of her head. So I've noticed a few posts already. I've popped a couple of options.
Name:Navigation Android mk. VI (NA-VI) Age: 3 Race: Warforged (Envoy) Class: Wizard (most likely school of divination) Archetype: Arcane Scientist, though bystander and assistant also can work. Desired Background: Far Traveller Alignment: Lawful Neutral Backstory: NAVI was originally made to be the automated helmsman for Spelljamming. It is programmed with navigational purposes and locating new lands and information. The warforged has somehow been lost before installation and ended up being re-purposed at the academy for other matters. Description of how they look: Slightly taller than most races (6'4'') the faceplate of this warforged has a numeral for six etched into its forehead, with hollow eyes and rectangular mouth slot. The defining features are the left arm turning into an astrolabe and navigator's tools and socket in his back to attach to a Speljamming Helm.
Name: Ramanon Age: 27 Race: Human (Variant) Class: Cleric (I'd like to try Order Domain, but can swap to War domain if no UA) Archetype: Officer, though executive can work Desired Background: Soldier Alignment: Lawful Good. Backstory: Ramanon is a devout cleric of Tyr, Faerûn's god of Justice and Order. He has worked his early life as a town guard and followed the tenants to uphold law and balance wherever he can. He has taken upon himself a task from Tyr himself (at least, that is what he believes) to help bring the correct balance and order to the other realms as his agent. Description of how they look: A little shorter than average, but well built, Ramanon wears heavy armour and carries a shield with the image of a balanced scales upon a warhammer, the symbol of his god. He has well kept chocolate brown hair, which compliments his tanned skin and similarly coloured eyes. He keeps his face clean shaven and always attempts to stand with his back straightened.
Edit: Since both of the above have playtest stuff (Eberron/UA), I've popped one that is normal sources.
Name: Alastair Blackglass Age: 22 Race: Half-Elf Class: Rogue Archetype: Executive or Bystander Desired Background: Noble Alignment: Chaotic Good. Backstory: Alastair is a young and reckless soul, wanting to move on from his life of privilege and do something truly good for the people. He has since been picked for his good sense of right, though he is quite a flatterer and impulsive. He has learnt from watching his family's political intrigue how to pick out liars and other important things, making him pretty useful for the social side of things. Description of how they look: A typical pretty boy, Alastair has flowing golden hair and emerald green eyes with handsome boyish looks. He keeps himself well kept, ensuring his leather armour and other clothing is appropriately cleaned and walks with a fancy rapier strapped to his side.
Hi, everyone. I truly appreciate the consideration that each of you have put into your submissions. I've gotten a number of messages from people asking for clarification, and I respect the genuine interest so many of you have expressed.
In light of the larger than anticipated number of responses I've decided to close this application thread sooner than originally planned. If you are interested in joining this campaign, I highly suggest that you send in a character concept before midnight tomorrow (Thursday) night CST (0500 UTC Friday morning).
If you have any final questions, please don't hesitate to send them my way.
Name: Relic (Original Designation: Unknown) Age: 60 Race: Warforged (Soldier) Class: Cleric Archetype: Arcane Scientist (Think Dumbledore with a dash of Professor Farnsworth from Futurama) or Bystander Desired Background: Sage Alignment: True Neutral (at least starting out) Backstory: Relic is a doddering old fool on the surface. But if one were to listen and believe his stories, he was one of the first of his kind designed for some great war or some such. However, upon being struck with divine inspiration (an Airship to those that connect the dots of his story), he awoke to a new calling life, and another world at that! Whether this is true or not, his uncanny store of knowledge and often single-minded focus (if absent-minded of other things) attracted attention among those dedicated to scholarly path. Plus, they wanted him to work off damages sustained from breaking in and ruining several books on planar beings on the premise of them being wrong. Description of how they look: Standing at exactly seven feet in height, Relic towers over most. Yet, he remains lanky compared to other soldier models: an obvious result of much remodeling and patch job repairs. The most notable of the remodeling beside the thinner frame being five digit hand replacing one of the normally more block-y soldier hands. Etched into his forehead is what looks to be the start of a square that disappears beneath a patch of ruined metal.

Name: Melbôr Ēowŷn (Mel) Age: 32 Race: Elf Class: Wizard Archetype: Arcane scientist Desired Background: Folk Hero (Or, if allowed, Custom with Investigation/Insight skills and Primordial/Celestial languages) Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory: Mel grew up a bit of a loner but had great respect for the elders around him. Loving stories and history, he would seek out wise elves asking about their adventures, knowledge and experiences. As a young elf he would venture out on long walks through the woods, sometimes even staying the night away from his home. Always relying on the information he gathered from his grand parents or other wise members of his clan. Description of how they look: Medium build, 6'2" tall with green eyes and a light tan complexion. Mel is lean from his time roaming through the woods. He has long wavy light brown hair generally unkempt for an elf, but still quite nice for normal folk. He has a tattoo of some sort about halfway down his right forearm on the inside that he uses as a focal point.
Name: Gdrëdrugh Balgüurn (Dred) Age: 32 Race: Dragonborn Class: Monk Archetype: Executive Desired Background: Noble Alignment: Lawful Neutral Backstory: Dred was raised by well to do merchant parents who taught him the value of a dollar. The family ran a successful jewel and music shop where they were the center of the village trade. Though he valued the lessons taught by his parents, he found the challenges of life could be managed best for him through the focus on ones inner strength. Description of how they look: Dred has a strong muscular physique standing around 6'6". He has blazing orange eyes that complement his dark bronze skin. He carries himself with pride and the looks of one who deserves respect.
Name: Himo Age: 80 Race: Firbolg Class: Fighter (Battle Master) Archetype: Bystander Desired Background: Far Traveler Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory: Himo is lost. He was on trip with his friends, looking for an out of the way place to throw a party, when he walked right into an arcane portal left carelessly in the middle of the road and got separated from them. Who leaves a portal in the middle of the road? Now lost and alone in an unfamiliar world, Himo is asking anyone and everyone to help him get home. But he doesn't even know where home is. Description of how they look: Himo has blue skin, an extra wide nose, and long ears that tend to flop back and forth as he talks. His face and head are covered in hair, giving him the appearance of something like a highland cow at first glance. He stands tall at 7' and has a gentle, loping, gait. He never seems to be in a hurry, but tries to be considerate and helpful to anyone he comes across.
