Several months ago, I launched a real-life Storm King's Thunder campaign and began the task of leading eight entirely new D&D players through their first tabletop role-playing adventure. The learning curve was steep, but the laughter was abundant (so too were the chips and salsa, peanut M&M's, pizza, soda, beer, and rum). But, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. After accepting a new employment position, I had to pack up and move a few hours away from those who comprised the group of fearless heroes who trudged across the Savage Frontier. Many weeks have passed, and, thus far, we have been unsuccessful in our efforts to resume the campaign.
And, so, here I am, hoping to start a play-by-post campaign that will allow me to scratch the itch of completing Storm King's Thunder. I would like to find five or six creative souls who are willing to commit to the following:
Submitting at least one quality role-playing post every day
Beginning this campaign at its humble beginning
Seeing the adventure through to its (hopefully) glorious end
D&D newcomers and veterans alike are invited. If you're interested in taking part in this bit of imagination, teamwork, fun, and suspense, then please use this thread to submit a rough sketch of your level 1 character as follows:
Character name:
Character race and class:
Character background:
Character alignment:
Character ability scores, including all racial bonuses (using standard array method or point-buy method)
A description of a person, event, or circumstance that has deeply influenced your character (for better or for worse)
A description of your character’s greatest fear OR greatest regret (choose one)
All content from Player's Handbook and Xanathar's Guide to Everything is acceptable, and, for now, there's no need to submit anything more than what's covered in the seven bullet points above. All the remaining aspects of your character will be completed after the band of heroes has been selected.
I plan to leave this recruitment thread open for five days; so there's no need to rush. Let me know if I've overlooked anything or if you have any questions. Thank you for your consideration. Happy adventuring!
NOTE: To avoid being confused with the other STK campaigns being played here at D&D Beyond, this adventure will bear the title The Giants' Unrest.

Here is a PC that I have been toying with as role playing. He is a human farmer who regularly gets mistaken for a heroic warrior of legend. Essentially he is just a farm boy who doesnt like confrontation but gets thrust into an adventure because people think he looks like a popular folk hero.
Character name: Arwin Steddy
Character race and class: Human Fighter
Character background: folk hero
Character alignment: NG

A description of a person, event, or circumstance that has deeply influenced your character (for better or for worse) - Arwin is a farm boy was thrust into an adventure due to being mistaken for a folk hero. Due to dumb luck he was able to get by but often is afraid to speak up and when he does everyone believes it to be modesty from the hero. He has begrudgingly been separated from his home and wants to return but is not sure how. Due to his fear of confrontation he rarely speaks up for decision making and will follow the group he is traveling with...just maybe, against his desires, becoming a folk legend of his own.
A description of your character’s greatest fear OR greatest regret (choose one) - He fears never returning to his parents and most any creature that challenges him.

A description of a person, event, or circumstance that has deeply influenced your character (for better or for worse): Cronan had always been interested in the arts and music, even though his family would have preferred he focus on hunting and brewing. One evening a traveling bard came to his village and performed beautiful music, much to the delight of Cronan's family. The bard had left his bagpipes, which Cronan quickly picked up and starting playing - much to the annoyance of his family and friends. Feeling like he had no place in the village, he left home with the bagpipes and vowed to return a great hero.
A description of your character’s greatest fear OR greatest regret (choose one): Cronan hates snakes to the point where he'll recklessly try and step on them or waste a spell to kill it.

A description of a person, event, or circumstance that has deeply influenced your character (for better or for worse): Around the time Vigan was coming of age, his tribe was raided by neighbouring rivals. Vigan, quickly grabbing the nearest weapon to him (a thick tree branch), ended up in a duel with a tribesman wielding a greataxe who wore a battered breast plate and helmet, likely from a raid on some place to the south. Blocking the onslaught of blows with the branch, the greataxe became stuck. Tossing both away, Vigan descended on his armoured foe, aiming punch after punch at the head and torso of the tribesman. Every punch caved the armour and helmet in further and further, until Vigan was sure the tribesman was no longer moving. For his efforts, his tribe bestowed him with the nickname "Ironfist", and granted him the greataxe stuck in the branch. Vigan learned that no matter the odds against you, there is always a way to win, as long as you keep swinging.
A description of your character’s greatest fear OR greatest regret (choose one): Vigan's greatest fear, like most Goliaths, is growing old or becoming disabled or permanently weaker in some way, and no longer being able to better his past achievements.
Hi, I've wanted to take part in a SKT arc for a long while now, I hope I'll be able to join you in your adventure. I hope I'll be able to bring what you are looking for to the table (figuratively speaking!).
Character name: Andor
Character Race and Class: Human (Variant) Storm Sorcerer
Background: Inheritor
Character Alignment: Chaotic Good
Character Ability Scores: Str 8 Dex 16 Con 12 Int 9 Wis 12 Cha 16
A Description of an event that has deeply influenced my character: Three years ago coming into his powers proved to be the defining moment in Andor's life, the small village he'd live in down in the Border Kingdoms had never held much for magic preferring to take pride in more physical skills, and the slightly built, almost pretty boy had therefore always suffered at the hands of bullies. When he was thrown into the village pond despite telling them he couldn't swim something snapped inside the teenager and as he rose from the water as if lifted up by the storms themselves, eyes flashing white, the local children saw black tattoos they had never seen writhing on his arms as the storm magic was channeled. The bullies ran away but Andor was left confused and scared in a place where he received only fear and hatred, he left shortly after, hardly ready for the road ahead of him.
My character's greatest fear: Is that one day his powers will not subside, there have been times where he can barely breathe as the storm energy continues to build within him and he has no way to release it, these terrifying moments are fleeting but Andor dreams frequently of times when they will not end and the energy threatens to destroy him from within.

A description of a person, event, or circumstance that has deeply influenced your character (for better or for worse): Born a second generation of human slaves in the Underdark, Boo had always dreampt of seeing what his parents called "the sun" for as long as he could remember. He had founded a secret revolt group who called themselves the Cult of Gorgal: Worshipers of a demon who promises them sanctuary. When he reached adulthood, the cult had successfully killed their slavers. Soon after, Gorgal had chosen twenty members of the cult to go out to the surface world and experience all it had to offer and return in fifty years so the next batch of twenty can do the same. Boo was one of those twenty, and he couldn't have been happier to finally see the sun.
A description of your character’s greatest fear OR greatest regret (choose one): He has a great fear of heights. Anything above thirty feet will make him lightheaded.
I am similarly trying to scratch an itch and trying out play-by-post for the similar reasons. Here is my application:
Character name: Rixton Pendrift
Character race and class: Half-elf rogue
Character background: Sage
Character alignment: Chaotic Good
Character ability scores, including all racial bonuses (using standard array method or point-buy method): Str 10, Dex 14, Con 12, Int 14, Wis 14, Cha 14
A description of a person, event, or circumstance that has deeply influenced your character (for better or for worse): Imbued with the curiosity of his elven mother and the trouble-making nature of his human father, Rixton has never worried about fitting in with both the seedier and more intellectual sides of society. His trouble-making derives from those flights of curiosity which captures his attention. This led to more trouble than he expected on the day he stumbled upon the dead body of a young woman in the back alley behind his favorite book store. With some eccentric flair, Rixton uncovered the culprit as a local scholar trying to cover up his brother's indiscretions. His curiosity is piqued deeper than ever and Rixton has turned an eye towards the criminal element with the mind of an intellectual.
A description of your character’s greatest fear OR greatest regret (choose one): His greatest fear is in not living up to the intellectual standards of his elven mother. He hides this fear in his pursuit of unusual interests that his mother would know little about and behind a level of confidence that he does not always feel.

A description of a person, event, or circumstance that has deeply influenced your character (for better or for worse): during his younger days spent at sea. Taking what he wanted without repercussions. Pirating was grand until their ship got overwhelmed by an attack. Their ship set ablaze, Gunnar lost at sea, drowning. Losing consciousness was saved by a crew mate. Realizing the fate that awaited him, set out to bring honor back to his name.
A description of your character’s greatest fear OR greatest regret (choose one): fear - the hopeless dread that comes along with events like drowning or being captured, trapped, etc.

Description of an Event that has deeply influenced my character: Carrow served for a short while as part of a military unit that 'did not exist' he and his fellows were sent alone and sometimes in groups to stir up unrest in neighboring countries and states, they aided in setting up advising and fighting alongside local insurgencies. They used extensive knowledge of the local populace and its criminal underbelly to do this in secret. After many months of fighting with local rebels in a mountainous region far from home Carrow and his men were discovered, their safe house set alight and all the survivors rounded up and thrown into a shallow grave. Dazed and semi conscious after smoke inhalation and heavy beatings the shallow grave was subject to a firing line of crossbowmen, Carrow took two bolts before being buried alive.
A Description of my characters greatest fear: Carrow has a fear of not being acknowledged, abandonment issues after he was caught have led him to believe he was truly worthless, just a pawn, alone now in the wider world he longs for the acceptance of a group and the social structure it would bring back into his life.

A description of a deep influence: When Viaflane was young he lived in a noble family of Fraywinds as an adopted child. He spent his days in nature not studying or learning with the other children. He was picked up by Lady Fraywind as an act of appreciation towards peasantry. However the real reason was them conducting experiments through children of different races in order to achieve some kind synthesis between giants and other races. In time cloud giants found out about the experiment and raided the place where Fraywinds stayed. Some children including Vailfane survived the raid and were left out by themselves. He was left out as an urchin for years to follow until he found faith in himself and determined that he would become stronger, so no one would control or have influence on his faith. He sweated an oath to avenge himself to the world.
Character's greatest fear: He fears that the world and others will change him and influence him in a way to manipulate him. He never changes his eladrin form because of that.
Character race and class:Warforged Juggernaught " Forge Cleric"
Character background: Brimstone was purchased sight unseen by a dwarven clan looking for a Warforged Envoy specialized in smithing to help manufacture weapons for their fight against some nearby goblins. What they received was Coal. Brimstone is a surplus military Warforged that was badly damaged and barly funtioning. With the help of the Dwarven clerics of the forge, they were able to repair him the best they could. Brimstone now appears to have a blast furnace built into his stomach and two smoke stacks that run up his back that always seem to be spewing whisps of black magical smoke that do not smell and quickly dissapate after a couple seconds. Brimstone was sent to the dwarves either by mistake or in an attempt to rip them off since a damaged juggernaut is far from the shiny new envoy they requested.... Either way, the dwarves put his incredible strength and endurence to good use not only making weapons, but using them to great success against his enemies. Once he was given his own free will, he decided to leave his dwarven family with his newly honed smithing skills in the hopes of finding other damaged or destroyed warforged and repairing them and rebuilding their numbers so that they can start their own clan much like the dwarves he had grown to call family.

After being critically damaged in the war, he was still alive but unable to move or speak. Death was never a fear of his, but the thought of being a prisoner of his own mind... unable to move, speak, or feel....for all eternity.... scares him more than any enemy.

The fear kind of goes with the event listed above so we will go with regret. His regret is that everyone he loves will some day cease to function long before his mechanical body ever shows signs of wear..... leaving him to be slow to warm up to people because of the inevitable sadness at the end of their lives.
Your campaign setting seems really interesting and I would love to have a shot at it. I play at another PBP campaign via Discord, which is why I don't have currently many posts here. The crew however was caught and sentenced to death, while Ladrian only escaped due to a mishap/luck
