His eye drawn back to the portal, Elaric muses in a quietly thoughful tone, "I could cast a protection spell before crossing the planar boundary, but it would only afford protection to one person as I must devote my concentration to maintaining its effects."
"Save your spells for your own protection, wizard," says Guan Hao. "My blade is ward enough here."

With the Slaad dead and his companions alive, if somewhat the worse for wear, Elaric would like to investigate this extra-planar... laboratory?... before moving on. If it can be secured, this could prove a safe place to rest. At the very least, he'd like to copy some of the gibberish (Elaric suspects Slaad) writting on the dissected organ bottles for later translation - unless Wendell has a Comprehend Language spell prepared. While he knows the spell, the Elven wizard did not prepare it for this expedition. Thoughts from the party?

Wendell doesn't have it prepared, but as it's a ritual spell, it's able to be cast easily enough.
[OOC: I forgot that Comprehend Languages was a ritual spell] If the more martial members of the party will watch his back, Elaric will perform the ritual and read the organ labels and see if he can determine any pattern, point, or purpose behind the organs preserved.

Since some of the party is keeping watch, I presume Elaric is in fact, performing the ritual? Are there any interruptions during that time?
Elaric finds that a great many of the organs seem to come from beasts or beings with ties to transformation, change, and metamorphosis. Butterflies sit pinned next to the pickled brains of changelings, a lycanthrope's hand rests in a jar half way through its transformation, and a small vial is simply labelled "Chaos Phage". Said vial is not merely sealed, but locked in a thick cube of wax.
[Balasar and Gong may make perception checks during watch.]

Balasar, meanwhile, hears EXACTLY what the voice is saying:
"YOU LET ME OUT YOU DAMNABLE TOAD OR BY GHAUNADAUR I'LL... I'll TURN YOU INTO SOMETHING ORDERLY AND PROPER! SEE YOU YOU LIKE THAT, YOU JUMBLE OF DEMONIC GOBBELDYGOOK! I'LL STRAIGHTEN OUT ALL YOUR CHAOS AND MAKE YOU A DAMN MERCHANT, I WILL!"

Balasar motions the party to gather 'round, and in hushed tones conveys what he's heard, as well as the direction it seems to be coming from. He suggests that the party investigate the source of the voice, if Elaric has completed his investigations for the time being.
Having recovered his spent ki points, Gong contributes his thoughts. "Mm. Could be a trapped innocent. Or some evil to put down. Either way, we should find it and settle it."

Balasar is amenable to the idea of exploring and securing the lab, and the idea of some rest before exploring further is particularly appealing.
Wendell doesn't have it prepared, but as it's a ritual spell, it's able to be cast easily enough.
As he has already used one of his two spell slots and two of his four ki points, Gong also favors securing the lab-like space for a brief rest.

Gong will keep watch.
Balasar will also keep watch.

You hear something from a ways away, it sounds a bit like an angry old man, but the words are hard to make out from where you are.
Balasar, meanwhile, hears EXACTLY what the voice is saying:

OOG: have we had enough time for a short rest?
[Yes]
