THE HISTORY OF THE ETERNAL WAR
Atlas has always been a continent divided. When the first ancestors of the great races rose from the primeval mud, the gods fought to claim them as their own. Some races fell under the sway of the dark gods, such as the orcs, goblins, and giants, while others were embraced by the gods of light, such as the humans, halflings, elves, and dwarves. Driven by their respective gods, the legions of darkness and the army of light fight for dominance in a land of blood. Centuries of unceasing warfare has left little opportunity for technological advancement, and cities are few and far between. The majority of Atlas' population reside in and around castles and strongholds for maximum protection. One can scarcely travel a dozen miles without sighting an army encampment, and children battle with wooden swords before they can even walk. Razed villages and leveled towns stand grim testament to the terrible cost of war. When the dust settles and the smoke clears, only one side will claim victory.
In the Recruitment and News Thread, you will find the Hall of Heroes, Casualties of War, Recruitment Notices, and the latest news from the War Letters.
Rumors of lizardfolk activity in The Dregs, a bog to the south of Atlas, has reached the ears of your commanding officer. You have been assigned to investigate the authenticity of these rumors, and if need be to combat the reptilian invaders. You have just been introduced to Captain Greensparrow, a wood elf known for his marksmanship. He has ordered Tusk to survey the area. You have trekked deep into The Dregs, but you have seen no sign of lizardfolk activity.
Whispers of a dragon in the Lonely Mountains has prompted your commanding officer to assign you and a dozen others to investigate the authenticity of these rumors. If there is indeed a dragon, you are on no account to engage it in combat, but rather to relay the information back to home base so that a command squad of experienced dragon slayers can be dispatched.
You have been traveling a neglected back road for days as you trek through the barren country, and the Lonely Mountains loom before you menacingly, still a days travel distant.
You have been given the daunting task of defending a supply post in the northern tundra from an orc warband. The military is low on resources and soldiers, and the outpost is worryingly undermanned. It is vital that the position must be held, or else troops combating yeti packs in the far north will be without access to the supplies they rely on, such as warm clothing, weapons, and food. To all appearances your task seems suicidal. But you are good soldiers, and you obey without question.
You sit on a metal bed in a reinforced steel room. An arrow slot on the wall beside your bed allows a sliver of morning light to infiltrate the room, illuminating a few empty bottles and scattered weaponry. Three figures, one on the bunk above you and two in the bunk across from you, snore contentedly.
Another long night spent in useless apprehension. After three nights without activity, you are beginning to wonder if the orc warband is coming at all.

With Dragons in mind but some time left before they reached the even the base of the Lonely Mountain, K'Dar kept his shield and lance at the ready, and played vanguard for the group. "I must admit. When the captain assigned me to this mission, I not expect to deal with dragon so soon."He admits allowed, breaking the silence after so long.
Despite his casual tone, he keeps a close eye on their surroundings, and expected -- hope the others had the same self-awareness.
Does he see any obscured or half-hidden trenches along the road, or in the nearby surrounding barrens?

War Party B
Eoin looks ahead to K'Dar as he leads the way, content to hold position in the middle of the group the aasimar cleric adjusts his shield to a more comfortable position and lets his hand brush against the haft of his warhammer to check that it was also set correctly in it's harness across his back. Satisfied that he would be ready should anything attempt to take them by surprise the war priest continues ahead.
As K'Dar speaks to the rest of the party over his shoulder Eoin brings his focus back to him and the mission, replying "We can hope that we will not actually be dealing with dragons ourselves, at least not at a distance when they know we are there. Should be just recon, as long as we hold our focus we should be fine. Have faith." He adds the last comment with a smile that carries in his voice and returns to checking over the terrain as intently as possible.
A strong northerly wind blows to your left, sending frigid gusts of air which kick up flurries of dust and dead grass into your eyes, obscuring your vision. The day draws to a close, and the temperature drops several degrees. The world is dry, dead, and cold.
As you pass under the stone outcropping, a naturally formed archway which stands at over 100 feet above your heads, a massive boulder comes hurtling down, burying an unfortunate fellow soldier. His scream splits the still evening air, and the sky begins to fall as more boulders come plummeting down.
It is almost impossible to find tracks in this vast expanse of mud and scummy water, and the lizardfolk are experts at using this terrain to their advantage. Your recon remains fruitless.
A glint of steel catches your eye, and you turn to find a small water fowl lying to your left with an arrow sticking out of it's head. You may make a Survival check to determine when it was killed.
