Rodolfo was expecting something, but not this. He catches on quickly though, bows his head, throws a very meaningful glance to Beegred and climbs down out of the pocket dimension.
Once down he quietly says to others, "We got this all wrong, but I'll explain later. If Beegred does not exit in the next few seconds then we need to go in and subdue Derendil."
Assuming that Rodolfo is already out, Beegred will slide down the rope as fast as possible (without hurting himself). He will Dodge if necessary, and does not drop any of his weapons.
(Let's see if Derendil changes again after leaving the Rope Trick.)

Rodolfo takes a few steps away from the pocket dimension and explains quietly, "He almost passed out, but then came back strong and spoke in undercommon as a true dark elf. Threatened to kill us as slaves. It leads me to believe that he is indeed a drow and the elven language and paranoia is his delusion, not vice versa. Doesn't mean there isn't some truths buried in there, but he will not get to be a regular elf if I figure out how to lift this magic."
He thinks for a moment, "I don't think it changes anything for now, but lets see how he feels once he comes out of the pocket dimension or the spell ends, which lasts an hour."
(I’m guessing that Derendil will interrupt any long explanations...)
If Beegred gets a chance to talk, he arrives at a very different conclusion. Since Derendil started speaking like an oaf in Undercommon, shows that he is a quaggoth. Seems like some spell is causing the spirit of an elf prince to possess the body (except when under stress).

Beedgred agrees, only a real dummy wouldn't know Undercommon.
(Beegred recognizes the uttered Undercommon since it sounds like what the other Quaggoth guards were babbling back at the Drow camp. Fortunately the spores were active, so Derendil's words were translated.)

After Derendil orders Rodolfo and Beegred back to the slave cave, Rodolfo and Beegred disengage to exit the pocket plane. Derendil can't and doesn't contest the two as they leave, as he expects them to be going where he told them to go. After passing through the doorway, Derendil realizes the pair has disobeyed him and angrily follows.
Once back into the material plane, Derendil's eyes roll up into his head and he falls prone, convulsing. Before anyone can really realize what is happening and look to help, the convulsions stop and he moans as he speaks in elvish (translated by telepathy): "Owwww, my head."
As Derendil lays on the ground moaning, the members of the party discuss what it all means (last few posts above). After a few minutes, Derendil looks at his quaggoth claws then to Rodolfo, asking, "Did you try? You failed?"
Rodolfo walks up to him and says, "Yes and yes. I learned much and will keep working on a solution. I know it does not seem relevant, but what do you remember of your life as quaggoth? What is your earliest memory? If we learn more about it, we may be able to pinpoint a time and possibly a location where you were transformed."
Derendil's nostrils flare and his claws deploy as Rodolfo asks about life as a quaggoth. Looking between Beegred and Krizzibond, Derendil barely keeps the quaggoth attack instinct in check as he answers in elvish (translated via telepathy), "I am not a quaggoth. This form is a curse! Terrestor usurped my throne and banished me to the drow prison cells." Turning to Beegred, he continues, "The drow are in league with Terrestor. Those two are spies. Kill them or let me!" He says as he points at Sarith and Xilyrah.
Rodolfo tries once more just to confirm his suspicion, "I understand your frustration, you have every right to feel this way. But you also want to free yourself of this magic and thus need our help. Lets take an easier question - can you tell me everything you know about Terrestor?"
Derendil shakes his head from side to side, "I can free myself by killing Terrestor! I must get to the surface, to the High Forest, to my kingdom of Nelrindenvane where I will find Terrestor and kill him. He's an evil wizard who cursed me and banished me to the underdark. His spies sabotage my progress and keep me down here until I lose myself to this curse."
Deciding that the result of the experiment was enlightening, the party decide to mull over what it all means as they continue travelling onward.
The way follows a cave with a high ceiling, illuminated by luminescent moss and wide enough for two to walk side by side. Krizzibond is supposed to be watching for danger but is too preoccupied glancing back to keep an eye on Derendil, so Beegred is the first to notice a large spherical creature floating above the cave floor. Several rigid stalks protrude from the top of the sphere. Long ropy tendrils fall below the sphere to the ground below it.
The party stops a good 40-50 feet away from it, and the creature does not appear to be aware of the party.
(Floating just above the cave floor, or floating high enough to make melee attacks difficult?)
Beegred: "Maybe it has blind sense only out to 40'. Unless it responds to noises." It dawns on him that perhaps he should have spoken a little quieter.

(No, floating about 5 feet off the ground. The diameter of the sphere is about 10 feet wide and the rope like tendrils touch the cave floor. It is blocking the cavern.)
The creature doesn't appear to be triggered by Beegred's comment and remains motionless.
"Maybe I can knock it down....." and he'll heave his handaxe towards it
sadly however the creature is too far away for the 20 foot range of the handaxe and it just skitters across the ground between the party and the creature.
Krizzibond, always proud of his strength, is sure he can throw a handaxe that far. In fact, he could if he understood the concept of parabolic arcs to maximize throwing distance. However, since Krizzibond is concerned about hitting the ceiling and having his throw come up short, he relies on a straight throw, but with all his might. Unfortunately, physics trumps pride and the handaxe doesn't even reach its target.
What the handaxe does do is cause some form of reaction from the creature, who turns as hit glides towards the hand axe. It is now 30 feet away from the lead members of the party and now that it has turned and approached, you can see that it looks like one giant floating eye.
Party Nature check please. (IE: 2 individual rolls, or one roll with advantage.)
