The old man (you can tell by his voice) nods in your general direction. "My drow master teleported us and something happened. It nearly killed me, and I ended up alone. I was certain I would die to some creature sooner than later."
The old man (you can tell by his voice) nods in your general direction. "My drow master teleported us and something happened. It nearly killed me, and I ended up alone. I was certain I would die to some creature sooner than later."
Beegred sighs. For all the scary stories about the Underdark, it sure feels like it is only inhabited by runaway slaves and Society clowns.
"The rest of the group will be waking up in an hour or so. I'm not letting you pass through here while they are sleeping. You have a choice of continuing in some other direction, or wait here and talk to the rest of my group after they wake up."
Beegred will head back to let Derendil know what is going on, and inform the group when the long rest is over. If the old guy tries to follow, he gets a smack in the face for not listening to Beegred's directions.
(Beegred would like to give this guy a day's food and water, but isn't eager to let a non-combatant join the group. Hopefully one of the others can point this old guy to the closest sorta-friendly habitation.)

The humanoid, still not entirely facing Beegred, responds in Common, "I am old and defenseless. If you can not take me along with you, then I beg for your mercy and a boon... Kill me quickly and painlessly and then bury my body by the traditions of human surfacers. It would please me to know that after decades of being a slave, someone with some empathy will put me into a grave with care and reverence.
Beegred is still for a moment, lets out a big sigh, and goes back to the camp. He waits for his watch shift to end so he can wake up the others, and let them know about Mr. Happy in the next chamber.

Beegred waits until his shift is over, and wakes everyone, informing them of the encounter he had with the humanoid who appears to be good to his word, waiting some distance away in this large open cavern.
Narstin nods to Rodolfo. "Yes, lets talk to him." Turning to Krizz he adds, "I don't like the idea of killing a defenseless old man. He wants the same thing we do, to escape the underdark and return to the surface."
"Are you sure? Sounded like he just wants someone to give him an honorable death, you can't fault them for that."
"IF we wouldn't take him with us, he said. It didn't sound like he wanted to die so much as that he simply didn't want to be left alone to wander until he starved to death."
Introduced to the remainder of the party, the old man enters the light of Krizzibond's mace. You see an elderly human male wearing fine but plain clothes. He stands straight and appears strong and whole for his age, but you realize he is blind as his eye sockets are empty and thick with scar tissue. When the old man moves he makes clicking 'toc toc' sounds with his tongue.
Speaking common, a language he hasn't used in a very long time, he says haltingly, "I haven't entertained escaping to the surface for most of my life. If I was to return there, what would happen to me? My family has surely moved on or are gone themselves. I can't do any work that would be of use to anyone.
No, what I want is to be able to help bring ruin to the drow family that took me as a slave and stole my sight. Or at the very least, bring ruin to all drow. Otherwise, the idea of a quick final end and honorable burial is all I can hope for now."
Rodolfo begins to realize that Sarith seems barely aware. He pretty much does one thing, and that is lead the party ever onward towards Neverlight Grove. He has to be prompted to start and to stop. Other than that, Sarith stares blankly at nothing. He doesn't react to the old man's words at all.
Rodolfo looks at Krizzibond, thinks for a second and then steps up to the blind guy. "Do you mind if I hold your hand for a bit? It might help us decide what to do with you." (and if he does not object then ritually cast Identify on him)
Rodolfo takes the old man's hand in his own and casts Identify while the others discuss what to do with the man who goes by the drow given name of 'Wolena'.
(If anyone knows Elvish, this slave name translate to 'Mite').
The identify spell has no effect on Wolena... there is nothing magical about or around him.
The old man accepts to follow the party, taking up the task of carrying Stool. Travel progresses well with the directions you have been given. When the party stops for a long rest, it is interrupted during the third shift as Eldeth hears the approach of something. She reaches out and taps Rodolfo, signaling the danger and the direction.
Rodolfo takes a pinch of dirt and mutters a few arcane words to himself while peering into the darkness (casting Longstrider on himself). He backs off to stand between the sleeping members of the party, ready to rouse them in case something dangerous approaches.

Narstin snores, sleepy dreamlessly.

"I suspect that if this old man wishes to die, the least we can do is grant it to him. We certainly don't need another mouth to feed."

Krizzibond will move closer to his compatriot Rodolfo and ask him "I trust your judgement friend, what say you about this old man?"
