After receiving her items, Angie thanks Hertha and begins to study her new map. After studying it for a time she asks Hertha, "Hertha, you're a trapper right? Have you ever been in to the deep parts of the Wildheart? The places where the ancient trees are? Have you seen any trees that seemed magical to you?"
Hertha inclines her head towards Gobbler. She then turns to Angie, “Aye, and a hunter. Used ta go into Wildheart in ma youth, but no ones tried to venture there in many a year. The forests gone dark, those who do venture in aren’t seen again.. been real bad for business ya see.. folk have’n ta go round tha long ways ya get here. As fer magical trees.. isn’t yer friend over there a magical tree? Sure looks like a walkin, talkin tree! I jest. Ya must be refferin ta the copperoak, they’re said ta exhibit almost magical traits and are full of vitner.. least that’s what tha stories say.”
Gobbler you continue on past the booth Healer is currently at to the last booth in the row. A young man likely in his early twenties and wearing a brown billowing shirt is manning it. The booth is selling everyday items like bees wax candle, cook’s utensils, fishing tackle, and rope. You walk up to the booth and request rope to which the merchant replies, “Got 50 feet of good hempen rope fer 1 gold sir, can I interest you in anything else, or will that be it?”
DMNote: Having a problem with item tags. Cooks utensils and fishing tackle are equipment kits that are 1 gp each. Cooks utensils are also considered a tool. Which for this game I don’t mind if you already have one tool, if you purchase another just add it under your imventory.
Angie thanks Hertha again and heads over to the herbalist shop. She looks at the herbs, but doesn't really see anything magical about them and so moves onto the last booth. From the last booth she buys some fishing tackle. Gesturing to the cooking utensils she looks to her new friends with a twinkle in her eye and asks, "Which one of you is cooking? Because I'm not that kind of girl." Angie grins at them, "But seriously, who's cooking?"
The young merchant looks at Gobbler, “Right looks like ya won’t be needing tha rope, I’ll just put that back where it belongs...” then he gets the fishing tackle kit, hands it to Angie, and takes her gold piece with a,“Thankya madam”.
Angie looks to Gobbler, "I'm pretty good at hunting and fishing. I have rations for a day and once we head out of town I should be able to find us some meat and fish."
"I don't have gold, but I have this stone here. It should cover the value and then some. For the difference, I would like any herbs, potions, or tinctures you think might help a group headed into the deep wilds."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The herbalist dances a little jig out of pure joy. He takes your stone and plops it into an apron pocket and hands you the little book of notes. Then his face clouds a little, "Friend.. I'm sorry, but my herbs are all fresh, my dried stocks have been depleted, and I've yet to restock. The herbs I have in hand are only good for 5 days. I am terribly sorry, but don't fret.. the deep wilds are the best place in Trudvang to get fresh ingredients! Why there's a whole store just waiting for you out there, oh the possibilities! Now, I won't tell you not to buy them, but as one herbalist to another, I suggest you just take this bit of honey, it doesn't go off ya see... just turns into little crystals after awhile and those are a treat!"
DM Note: If you buy herbs now, you risk them going bad before they get used. The herbal remedies you can craft also have an expiration date. Do you still want to buy some, or do you want the honey and change? Honey runs 2 sp per pint.
Angie looks at the store keeper at the last stall. "Thank you for the fishing tackle. Would you happen to know if this town has a tavern or in where we might get some brunch and maybe a pint of ale? Our morning has been rather exhausting and turbulent."
The merchant in the white collared shirt looks oddly at Angie, “Uhh.. not sure what yer saying.. what’s “brunch” and what’s a “tavern”? He asks. “Most folk go ta the Jarl’s mead hall fer ale, but really only when there’s a “thing”.. gotta be sworn ta the Jarl ta be allowed in too. If it’s food ya be lookin fer though try two stands back, they sell breads, meats, and a course meat pies... might sell some ya some ale too.”
Meanwhile, the herbalist gives Healer two pints of honey, his change in the form of two pink quartz stones, and a bow in return.. “It was a pleasure to meet a fellow herbalist, use my notes well, and may Enkenwatch over you on your journey in the wilds.”
Replies to Gobbler. "Just trying to soak it all in. This certainly is a strange place and I am unsure of how things work and what to do here. I mean, they don't even have taverns here."
“Youwanna.. meettha Jarl?” the merchant asks inquisitively, “he usually only speaks with his retinue.. unless there’s a “thing”.. but, he might be interested in ya on account of yer big friend here,” he says as he points to Thokien. “Thoughifyaask a guard at the hall.. they’d be able ta tell ya better than me”.
"I don't think we are going to be able to blend in around here." Angie says looking around them. "That guy earlier called me a Valkyrie and said I was the first he had ever met," Angie gestures at Healer, "and this tree stands out everywhere but in the forest. Looks like we are going to be stuck in this strange land for a while and I think its best we make some friends in powerful places. Lets break fast and then see if the Jarl's guards can be of any help. Just be respectful and we should be OK. Oh, and probably avoid magic. These people seem really nervous about magic."
Angie heads over to the food stand and gets a hearty meal.
The merchant manning the stall selling food is a boar of a man. He has a bristly, unkempt red beard and a shaved head. His thick forearms are heavily tattooed, his portly belly is covered by a blood and grease stained white apron, and at his belt is a mean looking cleaver with a worn wooden handle. But, his cheeks are rosy and he has a smile on his face, he booms, “Hey-a” to Angie as she approches his stall and happily makes her a platter of razor thin cut lamb, dark rye bread with creamy yelllow butter, dried white fish, smoked salmon, and some small minced pies for desert. He also puts a small dish of what looks like cubed cheddar cheese on the platter, then pulls out a tiny horn and a flask. He pours a clear harsh smelling liquid into the horn, hands it to Angie, then pours himself one and downs it. He wipes his mouth with the back of his meaty hand and says with a laugh, “Ah, you’re going to need that after you try the KæsturhákarIshouldthink!”
Thank you very much, madam. I'll keep the offer in mind if I find the chance to.
Gobbler accepts the statue from the lady and bows. He goes and checks the other stores in search of rope.

Gobbler rummages through his belongings and surprising found some rope in baggage. He also finds enough utensils he has to prepare a meal for himself.
I'll cook lass. I brought a pot with me. I learned how to cook a bit in my time in the forest. But......what is there to cook? We ain't got no meat.

Healer to the herbalist,
"I don't have gold, but I have this stone here. It should cover the value and then some. For the difference, I would like any herbs, potions, or tinctures you think might help a group headed into the deep wilds."
Healer proffers the stone.

Healer takes the book carefully.
"Thank you sir for your knowlage and advice. I will take the honey and change. We will have to manage with the herbs we can find in the wild."
Healer takes his goods and stores them in his bag. Bows deeply to the old herbalist and moves to catch up with the group.

Overhears Angie. "That's the first good idea I've heard in a bit."
Gobbler turns to Thokein.
What do you plan on doing now big fella? You've been awfully quiet since our arrival in this strange land.

"No tavern?" Angie looks at the merchant aghast. "Well, what about this Jarl you speak of? He seems like an interesting man."
Angie turns to her new friends. "Maybe we could get something to eat and then try to get an audience with the Jarl."
Angie turns back to the merchant. "Any chance we could meet with the Jarl? How would we go about arranging that? What do you think?"
