Gloom squeals frantically next to Perrin; his thick legs sinking deep into the earth. His hobgoblin master having a similar problem.
Mrs. Helder calls for a stop; as the wagons need to be adjusted for the marshy terrain. The several large horses seem tepid about going farther into the swamp; but that choice isn't theirs.
The process to change the wagons basically involves building a raft, removing the wheels, and placing the wagon on the raft.
Anyone may get involved in the process; or we can choose to skip this part if you wish.
OOC: From a role playing perspective, Perrin would offer to help as he's proficient with land vehicles and animal handling, but from a game perspective, I'm okay with skipping that narrative.
((Yep, I am good with skipping it. Arldane would watch over the workers, probably telling them how they could be doing something better, but without actually helping out))
It isn't long before the change is made with the aid of many, the observation of others, and the vanishing of Bareis; but that isn't uncommon, he tends to disappear whenever labor is needed.
The general formation are four large horses before each of the wagons, with people alternating who gets to rest on the wagons as the ground steadily becomes mud, and the rest marching through the muck, covering all sides.
Arldane will find himself a seat next to the driver of the lead wagon. As Arldane sees the slow process, he starts to sigh, and stands up, his hands moving in fluid, swirling gestures. As he does, the ground in front of the horses and trudging mercenaries starts to harden and the water starts to jump from puddles moving out the way of the wagons and horses. This continues for a while, and Arldane is visibly sweating at the constant effort of the spell he continually weaves. "Keep your eyes peeled, though a simple spell, it is a complex application and I need to keep most of my attention on this for time being."
((OOC - Arldane is using the Shape Water cantrip to freeze some water, creating a 5ft path of slightly firmer ground, and juggling other bodies of water out of the way. Assuming the wagons are wider than 5ft, this would mean two casts for every 5ft forwards, the intent being that he is basically constantly casting it for every 5ft that they pass through, Iceman style. Let me know whether you want to go with this water stuff or not - happy to just ignore it.))
With the ground hardened by frost, the horses are able to better grab the ground, moving the caravan at a much faster rate. It isn't long before the troop finds itself deep in the swamp. And that is when Perrin sees the first signs of danger; spying two lizardfolk near a large fallen tree.
Perrin readies his shield and weapon, and speaks aloud so that those around him can hear, stating, "We have a couple of lizardfolk spying on us over by the fallen tree. Should we be wary of an attempt on our caravan, or are they a peaceful tribe here?"
Perrin sees the two signaling towards several other locations in the swamp. They are geared for combat, armored and armed with various blades and spears. You also see something larger moving a little behind the fallen tree.
(Perrin didn't say anything yet, but you can see something as well.)
Hank sees a group of five lizardfolk hiding in wait behind a hill grown over a dead tree. One of them seem to be communicating with another lizardfolk farther on.

(Finally free from the holiday.)
Looking around, Perrin comments, "If this muck gets any deeper, I'll be needing a lift or a ride."
Perrin continues to grumble some as he plods his way through.

((My vote is to skip if it doesn’t add any meat to the story))

Perrin continues to plod through, cursing under his breath, while keeping an eye out for trouble that may arise around them.

Not sure how much Hank sees or how far he is from the lizardmen scouts.Since he is walking, did he hear Perrin?
