'Not really a card man'? Hmmmm. Con studies Merrick's face for a moment; Insight 12.
He deals two hands (three if Rasen is joining) and they play a while. This is 3 Dragon Ante - the shorter version at least. It's good for when you might get called away at any minute and don't want a full game. He explains the rules where needed, if the others don't know them.
Livvi throught out your talk with the captain and flirting you are able to get some information out of him but not more then anyone else could, maybe your still not used to being on the sea and are just to concentrated on getting on land.
High end Inn: Gilded Peak
Low end Inn: Waters Edge
Merchant guild: The High rise
Any other information you would of asked about?
Merrick you have seen the boy before a few times, it definitely seemed more usual then just coincidence and he used to stare at you each for a little while.
Mal looks back at Gom and gives a nod. "Everything's fine," he says as he looks back at the boy for a moment before diverting his attention to the approaching town in the distance. With a shrug he steps towards the railing of the ship some distance from the boy and leans back on it. "I'll just be enjoying the breeze for a while," he says in elvish, "the boy could be up to something. Could be nothing, but I'd enjoy the company, Gom"
Gom will nod and follow suit. Keeping an eye mostly on the boy, but also trying to be aware of his surroundings in general.
Con enjoys playing for a while; he can't cheat at cards to save his life so doesn't even bother to try, and they're not playing for money anyway. Rasen doesn't seem too chatty at the moment, so Con doesn't try to force the conversation and just relaxes into the rhythm of the game, making occasional grunts of satisfaction or displeasure. He also listens out for sounds that indicate the boat is coming close to the docks.
Livvi eventually returns to the small room and watches the card game for a few minutes. "We have a couple choices. There is a high-end inn called the Gilded Peak, and a lower-end one named Water's Edge. As much as I prefer the Gilded Peak, our group would blend in better at the Water's Edge. Oh, I also found out that there is an inn for the Merchant's guild called The High Rise. Maybe once we have our bearings, and definitely before I check out the upper crust people, I'll move up to the nicer lodging. Guess I'll change into my street-side attire, then. Back in a bit!"
She leaves the room and goes to her little corner cabin, digging out the large package and backpack she had stowed out of sight. After about 20 minutes, she returns, her hair braided and her dress replaced by a set of red leather armor. A rapier hangs in a scabbard at her side. "Ahh...I love the feel of leather against my bare skin..." she exclaims to no one in particular, and everyone in general, wriggling ever so slightly but completely noticeable!
Remembering that the youth had been eyeballing them for some time of the trip Merrick swears under his breath.
"I knew there was something strange with this kid... I have seen him shadowing us from time to time and he was always watching one of us. Hope the others catch him or we ll have to find him before we arrive."
Gom you notice that the kids eyes and head are shifting slowly between the exits on the ship and the archway back into the hold. He looks over to your direction but never fully seems to notice you. You also notice he has a sideways V burnt into his finger maybe only an inch wide.
The ship has now come into close waters on the dock maybe half a mile out and drops anker, as you hear footsteps coming towards the door way and a knock at the door.
OOC. Sorry for a slower reply this time, I have swapt onto nights for a short while so my posting time has changed for a bit, but it won’t change to bad.
Gom will tap Mal on the shoulder, point to the boy saying (in Elvish) "the boy", point to his own eyes (meaning 'looking at'), and then point back and forth from the exit and the archway to the hold. The V will be too difficult to explain for now, so he'll file that bit of info away for later, and will now be keeping his eyes out for it while we explore the town. ((I'm guessing the nat 20 gave me the V~ That'll be a cool detail to be watching out for))
Mal looks down at Gom and when he says boy looks at the kid but doesn't see anything untowards about him, other than him looking around the ship, probably bored out of his mind like any other person that has nothing to do while out at sea. He looks back down at Gom, a questioning look on his face since he'd never point the boy out unless there was a reason to, and watches as he starts doing strange things, like pointing to his eyes, the exits, and the archway to the hold. Mal's confusion rises even more before he finally deciphers what Gom is trying to tell him. His eyes immediately dart back to the boy, his eyes narrowed slightly. "You think he's planning something, Gom?" He asks in elvish, trying to remain as though he's having a civil conversation, "yes or no?" He adds in case his new peculiar friend doesn't have those words in his vocabulary.
((@JMB - Did Gom get the feeling the boy is being at all sketchy? Or is it simply that he's looking to be on land again? I guess I should have asked this first... I'm hoping the nat 20 would let me know about this ^^ If it seems totally normal he may not have grabbed Mal's attention in the first place. If he does seem to be up to something Gom would reply with a copied "yes" (maybe adding a shrug along with it to show that he's not sure what). If not, he'll shrug, and add a "no?"))
((@GA - I'm going to put the 'yes' and 'no' into my list. Thanks~ Can I assume that those specific words were in Common? Even though Gom no doubt heard spoken words during his backstory, I'm having fun only using what he's hearing in our campaign so far~ though if really needed i might use backstory voices later))
Gom he does seem to be paying close attention to the exits, preparing a way that is best to get off the ship, he is acting a little sketchy but he is very good at hiding it.
As Livvi enters the room for the first time, Con looks up from his hand and listens to her speak. As she leaves, he resumes the game. She might be a while.
When Livvi returns, he nods to her, happy to see her wearing her armour again; it bothered him when she didn't - it seemed like a foolish risk to him, but there was no persuading her. He was wearing his own armour of course, as he always did except when sleeping, and sometimes even then. Water's Edge seems the best bet. Or, you know, try to find this contact person first. Do we have a story? Livvi had come up with some absurd stories; this one time she had declared the pair of them to be 'public morality inspectors', and he had almost ruined the whole job by laughing out loud. Like, we're... err... merchants or something? Coming up with convincing fake identities was definitely not one of his skills. I mean, the wandering bard and her protector works for just the two of us, but not for a group this size, right? He waves his hand indicating Merrick and the silent Rasen in the corner.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Mal notices the way things are looking with the boy while he's still standing there, and starts getting a little curious. Having been in the merchanting business for so long he decides he'll get a read on the boy, if nothing else but to ease his suspicions and Gom's.
Gomand Mal you aren't able to get anymore of a read on the kid, as he is standing by the edge he is called at by one of the deck hands "You gon' stand there all day or get y'ur ass to work?" The boy straightens up and begins to walk to the hold with the other deck hands.
There is a knock again at the door in which you are playing cards and the door opens, one of the ships crew stand in the door way. "Be bought half hour before were in dock, letting you people know so you can get off without a hitch."
"Thank you, Lefty! I'm sorry we have to part ways - your tales of your sister and mother were profoundly absurd and utterly magnificent! You don't mind if I use some of them in my performances, do you? But I have other matters to attend to, so I must debark in this town. Toodles!" Her perky voice and high-born speech are not really consistent with her red leathers, but most men failed to notice the incongruence...
Con waits till the crew member has said his piece and left, before he answers Merrick. Sounds like the right plan to me, but...and he nods to Livvi, I go where she goes so, you guys figure it out.
He makes to stand up, but at that point Mal and Gom return, so he relaxes back into his chair again, collects his cards from the last game, and starts idly shuffling them as the conversation goes on.

Persuasion (advantage roll): 7
(nope! The dice gods have decreed a low roll!)
Love God. Love Others. Any Questions?
Merrick will play and not cheat. But he will be watchful.

"Good idea but I m going to be hard to hide .." He waves a hand up and down his attire. " Contact first then we decide, No ? "

Knowing that, Gom would have answered with the 'yes' and a shrug to Mal, somewhat indicating a 'maybe'.
