Wilfred calls out to the traveller, and steps out from behind a nearby tree, fairly certain that this was the creature he had heard following them. Carefully checking his peripheral vision to make sure he wouldn’t step into the firing lines of his allies, he nevertheless approached the traveller, with both hends outstretched. “What side d’ya fight for then?”

Venture stows his flute and steps out into the clear. He pulls back the hood of his cloak, revealing a tiefling with deep burgundy skin, black hair and eyes and a half-smirk on his face. He spreads his arms widely, opening his cloak to reveal his leather armor and the rapier slung at his belt.
He looks at Wilfred as he says, "Well met! I am called Venture. I come with the full blessing of the army of Light, and in this particular instance," glancing now towards Quoren's tree, "that mountain of man, Captain Grubb, to join you at this outpost to do my research and tell all of Atlas the story of valor and hardship the armies endure in this never-ending war. In doing so, I offer my blade and whatever service I can. Though the people of Atlas weary with war, fighting for only the gods know what, I have seen first-hand the savagery of the armies of Darkness. So I join you here on the edge of the wild, to push back against the Dark, and to tell the story of the army that holds it at bay."
He pauses, then says "Besides, I was told you were looking for volunteers...I didn't mean to cause such a commotion. Should we proceed?"
(I just find it funny when someone rolls high and then asks, because I get that it would be rude to just go ahead but also yeah you clearly beat it)
Ganathor steps up, a "short" goliath slightly over 6 ft tall. "No need for that. The blessings of Light have forsaken us long ago. I am Ganathor Stonechild, the tracker and, I suppose, temporary leader of this group. I am here to get the job done and get everyone home safely, not to serve any confounded purpose of the gods."
Glancing about at the group, Ganathor realized, "Hmph. This is a rather large group for a scouting party, but I suppose I'll be thankful if we have any problems, so long as they're not caused by our size. Let's get moving, I want to get to the orc camp and a fair distance away before night falls."
Ganathor continues moving towards the orc camp, trying to make it so the group travels in a straight line that just barely passes by the edge of the camp. Along the way, he's looking for signs of other scouting parties as well as orc watchposts/traps.

Great, a wordsmith..., Wilfred thought to himself. A man of few words, he preferred soldiers of Ganathor’s ilk. However, on occasion bards could be a font of useful (and less useful) knowledge that could come handy when they least expected it. For now, all he asked, with a glance at the items on Venture’s belt: “You any good with that?”

Venture returns Quoren's handshake, saying with a wink, "Thanks so much, my friend. Don't worry, I'll keep your name out of it if you like."
To Ganathor he says, "Well met, Ganathor Stonechild. Let us hope we all make it home together, with plenty of stories to tell."
Looking at Wilfred, "Better with spell than with sword, but I know which way the pointy end goes. I'll probably be best in the middle of our group, close enough to provide support to our fighters and detriment to our enemies."
Venture falls in with the rest in following Ganathor as they continue toward the camp.
The orc camp, being a ways off, is technically off of the map. Where the map ends, the orc camp seems to begin, if the wisps of smoke in the afternoon sky can be trusted. The cloud that was rolling in earlier is almost upon you now, with a few snowflakes drifting down from the sky above. The wind seems to have picked up, though the dense trees have been blocking most of the breeze. With the shorter days of the north and the dark clouds blotting out the sun, night comes swiftly, and with it, the cold and the snow.
[If you wish to continue travelling, everyone must make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or suffer one level of exhaustion, due to the extreme cold. If you have resistance or immunity to cold damage, you automatically succeed. If you are naturally acclimated to cold climates, you also succeed. If you are wearing Travelling Clothes, you also succeed.]
Wraith curses the cold bitterly, "A pox upon the accursed bureaucrat who sent me to this desolate frozen locale. May his nether's become the home of a swarm of fleas!" Wraith pulls his cloak tighter about his thin form. His alabaster skin taking on a slightly bluish tint. "I hate the cold! Only an orc would be foolish enough to travel through this at night. I vote for shelter & a fire."
Venture nods and confirms, "Agreed, though I'm not sure we can spare a fire. If we can see their fires, can they not see ours? In any case, pressing on seems unwise."
Was Quoren shy? He didn't seem particularly interested in having his name or face spread around. Well, it wasn't her business. As the talk turned to the idea of camping for a night, she smiled, breathing warm air into her hands. Being a sand genasi, traveling the frozen wastes had her out of her element in the most literal sense. "I'd love to camp down. And when we do continue onward, I do have some small magic that could make passing quietly easier," she offered. She peered through her belongings. She did have a small iron pot for cooking and a tinder box, so if the had a fire they could at least have warm meals. That'd be nice, right?

[I'm gonna say yes on the smokeless fire, since I just watched a 3-minute video and it seems pretty easy. The fire negates all Constitution saves, so you're good.]
As you all take shelter beneath an outcropping in a nearby hill, Ganathor sets about gathering small twigs to use as fuel for his smokeless fire. A few minutes later, and a bit of light smoke, Ganathor has a fire burning, with no smoke emitting from it. The snow has begun to fall harder, and the smoke from the orc camp becomes harder to see as the storm obscures your vision.
Xerlax makes his way to the outside of their makeshift camping site. Used to th cold, he lets others enjoy its warmth, and finds a tree to lean against as he sits surveying the surrounding woods
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Guthric stays near the fire long enoigh to take in its warmth and get some hot(-ish) food. Once all is said and done, he moves to the edge of the fire's warmth and takes shelter under his thick cloak. Though his belongings were close at hand, his shield and weapons were closer still. For as long as he could stand and into his watch, the outlander stared into the darkness of night, occasionally sniffing the air for any traces of something amiss.

Wraith settles down by the fire, with a sigh of contentment. "We should discuss watch shifts. With such a large group we can easily have two people on each shift."
"Just something I picked up on my way here." Ganathor peers out into the stormy night. "I can't see much in this weather, is anyone else faring any better? The storm is harsh but this is also the best time to sneak up on those orcs. If anyone else can handle the cold and is willing, we should go ahead of the group while the others remain here. I'll give someone instructions on how to maintain the fire, as well"
Wilfred, more at home with the tasks of an army camp, cleared his throat and said to the Group: “I’m agile enough, but being human I’m all but blind without sunlight or a torch. I’ll keep things running here, and maybe keep on the ready to lead a team in as back up, should you need support and stealth is no longer a necessity.” He scanned the group, stopping on Kalahari, and added: “I could use your help in setting up all necessary things for a combat triage pount. Better to be prepared. Unless you wanna head out with Ganathor.”
