Varinth seems to running in a small circle looking for something. In essence he is looking for a magical Doodad that will miraculously appear in the nick of time that is designed purely for the destruction of floating skulls. He is not having much luck. Things that are immune to fire, and apparently death, have him at a anxiety laden loss.
A: Dekhan and Incantis B: Flameskull, soggy but somehow still aflame C: Strix-in-the-water, Scupper and Varinth
Strix and the skull he is holding are in the churning, frothing and violent water a few feet below the ledge to the south. Everyone else is in various parts of the tunnel or on the ledge, looking on.
As the skull struggles and twists in Strix's grip, further knocked about by the water, Dekhan's javelin pierces an eye socket and punches a hole through the back of the recently-regenerated skull. Vines seem to shimmering into existence from the wooden shaft of the javelin; they wrap around Strix but don't appear to constrain his movement They cover the skull in a seething mass of green before suddenly seeming to shrink, leaving the skull restrained. Only Strix is really in a position to see this.
Incantis approaches the ledge just far enough to get a better view of Strix and the skull. Seeing it restrained by vines and Strix struggling to hold onto it, the bardlock contacts the monk's mind, filling it with inspiring harmonic patterns. Leaning forward, he also lets loose an eldritch blast toward the restrained skull.
(Bonus action bardic inspiration on Strix)

Incantis, half-elf warlock (great old one) 4/bard 1 ● Thorok Earthhand, hill dwarf mountain druid 6/grave cleric 2
Cragmyre Ironseed, earth genasi ancestral barbarian 3 ● Cyrus Natriallae, aquatic half-elf warlock of the deep 3
Incantis, as your blast of force power hits the skull, you see the magical barrier shimmering around it; it is unharmed, but the barrier fades and the skull is left unprotected.
Mmmph! Qnggg mmmphf! says the skull, which through a combination of the water, vines and Strix's vice-like grip, is struggling to get its point across. It attempts to escape:
Feck me ye genius... it's working! I'm building something for ye te stand on.
He freezes water under Strix to create a platform for him to stand on. If things go well, he takes each round to further the platform so that if necessary, Strix could quickly run to the safety of the ledge. The ice is frozen in a rough microfracture surface so that its white ice as opposed to clear. Every six seconds, more ice...more walkway.
As Scupper casts Shape Water, a platform of ice appears below where Strix is swimming. Strix, your foot clips it slightly, but it's too far down for you to stand on.
Nice idea, I can see what you're going for and it should work, but you'll need to be careful with the placement. You can't freeze the water in the five foot cube where Strix actually is. The spell also has a limitation of only two long-lasting effects at the same time, right?
Dekhan’s eyes narrow as he maintains concentration on his spell. The creature is restrained for now. Is it fight or flight, boys? If it’s fight, he’s an easy target, but how do we get it to stay dead this time? Anyone know anything about it? Dekhan will rack his memory and training for any knowledge on keeping undead dead after you redead them.
Mark knows the answer, I think, but I paid better attention than Dekhan in monster school. Can I roll another check about this guy on my turn? Maybe something wisdom based as one could make the argument for a common sense type solution for this coming from someone with some experience in the clerical arts?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
He's a talking skull. We smash him up, bless his ashes and salt the earth!
Speaking of which.... Strix has a spear in his hand. I think he can attack with that without disadvantage but I think he'd be slamming the skull into the spear rather than the other way around. Bet he resists piercing, he's a skellie, but it's resisted damage or disadvantage attack.
Strix, your first attack glances off the skull's flaming dome, reflecting the pessimism with which you attempted it. The second, unarmed strike is more successful as you bash the skull against the shaft of the spear. It's looking pretty bad, with cracks starting to appear all over.
You do realise that this is not a painless process for me?
Varinth, the McGuffin leans out from behind a rock, blows you a raspberry and hides again.
Round Four:
A: Dekhan and Incantis B: Flameskull, not looking good C: Strix-on-ice, Scupper and Varinth
Dekhan can't really re-attempt the roll to understand the skull; anyone who hasn't yet tried it can do so.
Dekhan, not unmoved by the skulls plight, calls out To Strix Let him up for a moment, Strix!Should Strix comply... Tell us how to unbind you from this place and send you to your rest! He remains pragmatic though and readies an action to throw another javelin if the skull is not cooperative.
(Strix will be attempting to hold the skull under water to prevent it from vocalising anything or bursting into flames)

Sorry, in transit. I wrote that out before Strix re submerged him. I’ll retcon that if possible.
