"I vote for going west too," Laniel says, before Morphbegins resummoning Joy.
Rethan:
While Morphis casting his spell, Rethantakes a look at what Midnightis doing. The cat creeps a little too closely, however, and has been cornered by two of Utkarl's thugs in a room to the north. Midnight hisses and the bandits laugh as one of them withdraws his hands from a swiping paw.
With a sigh at the bandits toying with Midnight, Rethan dismisses the familiar and resummons it at his feet. "He got a bit too close and two of the bandits had him cornered," he explains to the others. Then he sends the cat off to explore in the direction they're planning to go next.
Watching through Midnight'seyes, Rethansees a passageway that leads to two rooms with the doors wide open. In the first room, to the north, is a wooden table with some playing cards and coins scattered across it. (It contains stacks of coins totaling 220 cp, 91 sp, and 85 gp, as well as a silver ring (25 gp) ). The entire northern wall is one large stone fresco depicting a rugged mountain, hollowed out with caverns containing tiny sculpted figures of dwarves. Behind the mountain, carved rays of brilliant sunlight fan out to the edges of the wall. Beneath the mountain fresco, carved into the floor, is a large, recessed stone tub 8 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 2 feet deep. It contains a smelly bedroll and a bunch of survival equipment
In the next room, the familiar finds eight bedrolls spread out on the floor. Two battered and rusty oil lanterns, also on the floor, light the chamber. The other door leaving the room is shut but not latched and Midnightis able to pry it open to find an empty, dead-end hallway.
"there's some coin down this way, and some survival equipment," Rethan tells the others, making a quick trip down the hall to collect the coins and ring. He digs through the survival equipment for naything of interest as well. "Doesn't look like much else though. So our choice is to either follow the bandits north or backtrack and try one of the other directions."
Seeing no signs of magic, Morph nods his agreement with Laniel.
"Yeah I'm not sure we want to go up from here, we are trying to get to the entrance down to the next level after all."
"Let's go back out to the long hallway and head west."
Morph heads back to the big room and out of the south door, back into the long hallway.
Once he gets to the intersection they came north to (the star on the map), Morph pulls out a jug from his bag and speaks a word over it.
He then kneels down next to the painted line, where it turns the corner heading east and removing the stopper, very carefully pours out just a few drips of acid onto the paint.
After the acid has had time to eat into the paint, Morph pulls out another vessel and speaks another word, before pouring out a gallon of fresh water to wash away the acid and corroded paint.
Morph examined the small break in the painted line, making sure there is no connections between the two parts.
"Right, we are ready to continue painting westward now."
Titusand Lanielround the corner at the end of a long passage leading west into a room that looks itself to be a dead-end. Rethan, Atuan, and Morphbring up the rear and cannot yet see into the room. At first it looks mostly like a dark, mostly empty room. Bones litter the floor. Both TItusand Laniel, however, spy a tail or...maybe a tentacle?...twitch and withdraw into the the shadows.
Lanielmoves quickly, expecting that hiding creatures with tails or tentacles down here are not friendly. He charges in, dodging around Titus nimbly and getting a better view of the room. What he sees is a tentacled, beaked creature that looks like a brain with no obvious eyes.
"It's agrell!"he says. He then unleashes four rapid attacks on the ugly creature. (expending one Ki point.)
Every blow hits, causing the grell to scream angrily in response. Lanielkeeps it busy and focused on him (preventing a reaction on its turn this round.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Morph stays near the door, pointing his new rod at the creature, revealed by Lanial's flurry of attacks.
With a word and a flourish of the rod, Morph lets off twin blasts of magical energy, one immediately after the other, both in the direction of the creature.
Move: Inside the room, but to the side of the doorway
After the group loops around, coming back into the same room, Morph smiles at the funny circumstance.
"I'm going to go ahead and paint the line into the room, if Midnight wants to scout ahead again?"
Morph heads out and paints the line in through the south door, into the room.

"We could try going west back at that long hallway," Laniel suggests.
Meanwhile, Morph examines an entirely mundane ring, worth about 25 gold.
