Vincent stands up, "Favor for a favor you say?" The detective walks over to his window and spends a few moments staring outside, "Sometimes, I have to turn down jobs as I'm only one person. If you would agree to handle a future job for me, as a favor, then I could see providing you with this magic item, as a favor." Turning back to the duo, "What do you say? Would the two of you be willing to trade favors?"
Enjoying getting to work with one of his newer companions, despite the stakes involved with their current endeavour, Vassa thinks to himself, 'Well, we're already working both against and with the Zhents and Xanathar's Guild to some extent... why not throw a debt to a shady PI into the bargain? Phae is going to blow UP when she finds out!'

Bason will keep his shield up, but put this axe away. He will scoop up the remains of the mechanical bird. He follows Phae in.
He will say to the priests as they speak. "Oy! Someone on your roof just sent this thingy to attack us! They just ran back inside! They should be glowing still, I think. Right silver?"

The dragonborn priest sighs. "Nim" she says while shaking her head. "I am priestess Valetta. If you would, please follow me and we'll get to the bottom of this." Valetta leads you through the double doors and into the main hall. "Most people come to see the Hall of Exemplary Inventions. As you can see, the main hall of the temple holds two dozen marble pedestals. Each one bears a prize-winning invention or a miniature model of some other extraordinary creation. After we speak with Nim you're welcome to come back through here and take a closer look. It really is quite wonderful."
Valetta leads you through a door at the rear of the hall, and up a spiral staircase to an attic where you come to another door. As Valetta tries to open it she finds that it locked. "That's weird." After inspecting the lock, she looks back at you all. "This is a new lock... one for which I don't have a key." She then knocks on the door a couple of times and calls out. You all hear movement but no one responds and the door stays locked. "I don't suppose any of you know the Knock spell or have a set of thieves tools on you by chance?" she asks, clearly frustrated by the situation.

"That sounds more than fair, Vinnie. Right, Elon? You scratch our backs, we scratch yours. I mean, we're practically neighbours, after all."
A wide smile forms on Vincent's face. "Great!" He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a necklace with 8 balls handing from it. You notice that it appears to be missing a single ball. "Here you go." and hands it over to Vassa. "I'll let you know when it's time to repay the favor. And don't worry, I won't ask you murder anyone or some such nonsense. I mostly deal in information."
" Just seems to be something going around. Busy lives I guess.", Selinae evaded.
" So.....shop. There!"
You walk into Balthorr's shop and are nearly overwhelmed by the rows and rows of display cases and shelves. As you look around you see the cases are full of foreign and antique coins while the shelves and walls are loaded with what appears to be historic military equipment. As you venture further in you see some of the cases have jewels of various types and sizes and others have jewelry. You're about half way down the main isle when you hear a wheezy voice call out, "Come on in! Balthorr has something for everyone."As you walk to the rear of the store you see a counter behind which sits an human male of at least 70 years of age if not older. "You fine citizens looking for anything in particular or just browsing?"

As Valetta leads them through the Hall of Exemplary Inventions, Phaedra nods. "Maybe another time when it is more appropriate. I does indeed interest me, it is always good to know more about those gods and goddesses outside of your own clergy."
When the make it to the door and find that it is locked, Phaedra pips up. "I may be a priestess of Mystra mam but that spell is beyond my comprehension. I am sure my friend Silver can pick the lock or Bason has an axe and the muscles of a dwarvish strongman."
Phaedra makes way for her companions to get to the door. "You had better stand aside Valetta, the door will be opened one way or the other" The cleric swings her shield up and takes her mace into her hand, readying herself for another contraction to come there way.

"Just browsing. But it looks like you have some pretty fascinating items. Are these historic military weapons functional, or more for display?"
Unless Kestrell can pick a lock, Bason has an axe and the muscles of a dwarvish strongman."
Phaedra makes way for her companions to get to the door. "Show us the strength of your family Bason! You had better stand aside Valetta, door do splinter when they are forced" The cleric swings her shield up and takes her mace into her hand, readying herself for another contraction to come there way.

Valetta quickly turns and shields the door with her body when Phaedra mentions Bason using his axe, "Surly not! I can't allow you to destroy temple property! Nim can be reasoned with. If you don't have a way of opening the door without damaging it then we'll need to simply talk him out of his room."
"Sure, it's pretty enough, but I've seen fancier necklaces. You said this thing is worth thousands of gold pieces, but those don't look like rubies to me. What am I holding here, Vinnie?"
The PI wags his finger at Vassa, "Nuh uh uh." He flashes a devious smile as he says, "50 gold for the item. 50 gold for the information. We worked out a fair trade for the first. Would you be willing to owe me two favors?"
Returning to his chair Vincint sits, takes a slow puff on his pipe before starting again, "I will tell you this much, as I feel the context is required for you to solve the case. This necklace was found in a rain barrel next to the building one of your associates was on the roof of earlier. It appears that whomever was up there, dropped it. The clasp is broken so I assume it was unintentional. So what do you say? One more favor and I tell you exactly what you're holding."

"Did he now? Penlador is something else." Eyeing the pair he continues, "Let me guess. Mistook the two off ya for a couple didn't he? He sends me quite a few like that, he does. Funny part is, in most cases he turns out right in the long run." Balthorr finishes his statement chuckling. "I'll give you 10% off anything you buy today since Penlador sent ya, how's that?" he says with a grin.
"Just browsing. But it looks like you have some pretty fascinating items. Are these historic military weapons functional, or more for display?"
"It's all functional, or once was. But the value comes from the history of an item. I have items that were used in the First Tymanther-Unther War, the Goblin War, the Moonsea War, and the Cormanthor War. Pick a war. If it happened in Faerun in the last few hundred years, I probably have something from it. Hell, I have a belt buckle from a lightfoot halfling in the Hin Ghostwar, and that was almost fifteen hundred years ago! So, you looking to become a collector?"

Not wanting to indebt himself and his friends to Vincent too much, despite his curiousity regarding the necklace, Vassa refuses the tempting offer. 'Surely Phae will know what this is... and if she doesn't, I'll get to tease her on her lack of knowledge. Win-win!' the bard thinks to himself.
"Thanks, Vinnie, but I think we're cluey enough to come up with that particular piece of info on our own. Still, we appreciate you giving us the item and the story on how and where you found it. A favour for a favour. ONE favour, but you can rest assured that we'll make good when the time comes.
We've got a few windows to replace after the explosion this morning and we're not quite up and running yet, but when we are, be sure to come by to check Trollskull Manor out. I have a feeling that you may be our kind of patron. We'll see you around."
Not really sure why, Vassa tips an imaginary hat to the PI and walks out. Still holding the necklace, the bard says to Elon,
"Should we head on over to the Temple of Gond to let the others know what we've found out? And what do you make of all of this?"

Bason smiles at Phea and nods to the priest. He walks up to the door and knocks, if the priest let's him by.

You all hear some more movement and then you hear the lock click and the door slowly opens. Standing on the other side is a wooden automaton (similar to this but without the sword)
Bason & Silver:
It bears a striking similarity to the automatons that sometimes march in the Day of Wonders parade, as anyone who has lived in Waterdeep during the fall season knows.
Seeing Nim, Valetta turns around and asks, "First off, are you okay?" Nim uses hand signals to communicate something. "Why did you send you bird at these folks?" Nim makes some more gestures and then Valetta turns back to the party, "Ok, so first off, this is Nim. He's a nimblewright that was gifted to the temple by a Lantanese wizard. He is, without a doubt, the smartest automaton any of us have ever seen, able to create new items such as the mechanical bird. Nim says the bird was going to you but not to attack. If you had held out your hand it would have landed in it. But I completely understand how it didn't look that way. Do you have any questions that you would like to ask him?"
"Thanks, Vinnie, but I think we're cluey enough to come up with that particular piece of info on our own. Still, we appreciate you giving us the item and the story on how and where you found it. A favour for a favour. ONE favour, but you can rest assured that we'll make good when the time comes.

"Oh I certainly look forward to you all re-opening the Trollskull Taproom. High society people drinking and gossiping makes my job so much easier. Thank you for stopping by, please close the front door on your way out. And do be careful with that necklace, though."
" Do you have anything under....", Selinae counted inside her pouch. ".....15 gold?"
She ran her eyes over the jewels and jewelry, knowing she couldn't afford them but still eager to admire the pretties.....
"Absolutly young lady."He points to a case to your left and behind you, "Take a look in that third case there and you'll find a nice assortment of earrings with various stones in them. Now, you're going to be looking for the ones with the smaller stones, obviously but should be quite a few to choose from."
OOC: Choose any gemstone that costs 10gp from the equipment list and tell me what you would want the earring to look like with half of that stone set in each earring. The setting would be gold or less.
"No, not collecting. Just seeing if anything could help us if we go through the Portal, you know?"
"Ahh, got your eyes set on that do you ye? Well, anything off the shelves wouldn't work for you. It's too expensive for what you're getting. But I also have some magic items that are sure to be useful. The question is, can you afford them. The cheapest thing I have on hand is a helm that lets you understand all spoken languages and it's 500 gold. I see your bow and quiver there, I have a magic quiver that will let you carry up to sixty arrows, eighteen javelins, and six spears while still only weighing more than 2 pounds. But it's 1,000 gold." Rubbing his chin for a moment, "That said, if you find anything of value down the portal that ye don't need, come on back and I'll offer you a fair price for it."

"Interesting. Those are decent prices, too. Yes, I'll remember this place, Balthorr's, and come on back. That quiver could come in handy. Do you have any magic arrows?"
Selinae looked the pieces over but eventually turned away from them, " Perhaps once I've made my fortune I'll come back and buy a more substantial piece."
She smiled at Balthorr, " Thankyou so much."
Listening in to Kestrells conversation she queried, " So you were serious before? About going into Undermountain? Well, I suppose with you being an experienced monster hunter its not quite as daunting. My experience is mostly tavern brawls and the occasional sahuagin raiding party."

"No, didn't interact with a lot of different people anyway. More so a lot of interactions with the same few people."
"OK, Marinade, shopping it is."
" How are the two, the beard and handsomeness, mutually exclusive?"
