As the two of you go down the stairs you hear the person you'd be talking to making a bit of noise. As you get down the stairs you see light from a lantern reaching the top, "Wait! Wait just a second. You can't just barge in, wake me up, lie to me and leave through a hole in my basement! At least show me where it's add so I can fix it!"
As the light grows closer you see that it is indeed a halfling man. Now that you can see him clearly something about how he carries himself makes you wonder if that warning not to endanger his family was for your benefit after all. When he reaches the bottom of the stairs and sees the four of you standing there he doesn't even hesitate but instantly starts asking questions.
"You smell as though you've all been walking in the sewer. Please don't tell me that's what's below here. Last thing I need is sewer fumes coming up into my basement. I just convinced the wife to let me start doing some brewing down here. I don't want my drinks to taste like you all smell." He looks back and forth at you, expecting an answer. "Well? Is it the sewer? He," pointing at Silver, "mentioned a mind flayer. I have trouble believing one of those would hang out in the sewer. So what's below here?"

Silver shrugs "Believe me or don't - doesn't make it any less true. We already told you, you're just choosing not to believe us." without waiting for a response Silver just vanishes back down to the lair, deciding to let Vassa deal with the man.
"Harsh though his tone is, my ally speaks truly. You are not safe down here and would be best served by bricking up that entrance as soon as you can. My apologies for distrubing you and for the falsehood as well, but you really are better off not asking further questions or hanging around down here.
Think of your family and leave well enough alone, my good man. And here... for your troubles and to help with the unexpected construction work."
Vassa hands the man 5 gold pieces and follows Silver back down to gather the party, which he will encourage to return to the Portal after they check the door that Nihiloon left through.

The halfling watches as everyone slips back down into the tunnel below and then pushes the floor stone back into place. Within moments everyone's back together in the room where you rescued Floon.
After everyone's together Vassa carefully opens the door that Nihiloon left through. In the middle of this otherwise empty room is a stone pillar carved with a small symbol: a perfect circle with ten equidistant spokes radiating outward from its circumference. In the middle of this circle is a smaller circular indentation that bears a passing resemblance to a lidless eye. To the north and west sides of the room are doorways with the doors open. Both appear to lead into sleeping chambers. In the northwest corner of the room staircase leading up to a door.

Vassa waited all of about 3 seconds for anyone to disagree with the plan and then spun on his heel and walked back out of the room and the group dropped into step behind him. Over the next 45 minutes or so they attempted to backtrack their way out of the sewers during which time more than one person asked why they hadn't all just gone up into the halfling's house and exited onto the street. But everyone kept following.
Once they were back topside, they went straight for the Yawning Portal. It was now pretty late in the evening and the streets were pretty empty. When the group enters the tavern they find Volo drinking alone while anxiously awaiting news of Floon’s fate. He springs up and runs to embrace you all and his friend as soon as he spots you. Before you can even take a seat, Volo was already yelling to Durnan to bring food and drinks for his friends.
The next few hours are spent with Volo asking questions of everyone as drinks and food were consumed.

Vassa Sunstar (half-drow bard) - Waterdeep Dragonheist DM Ghosts of a Forgotten Land DM Beyond the Bitter Shore DM Echos of a Burning Crown
After Volo was caught up on the story of the great rescue, Renaer starts telling his tale of why the two largest crime organizations in Waterdeep were trying to kidnap him.
"First off, thank you for letting me wait until we were out of danger before telling this story. As you may know, my father is Dagult Neverember, the former Open Lord of Waterdeep and the current Lord of Neverwinter. Many believe that while he was Open Lord, he embezzled a large amount of gold coin, dragons in Waterdeep parlance, and hid them somewhere in the city. Some think they can find this lost treasure by using an artifact called the Stone of Golorr, which was in the hands of the Xanathar Guild until recently. Apparently, someone stole it. The Zhents and Xanathar both think I know something about all of this, but I don’t. My father and I haven’t spoken in years. I only learned about it all through rumors like everyone else.”
After Renaer finishes Volo chimes in, "No doubt you've seen and heard of the tensions in the city and the constant fighting between the Xanathar Guild and the Zhentarim. This treasure is at the root of it. Both groups want the gold, true. But even more so, both groups want to make sure the other side doesn't get it. I can only hope the Watch gets things in hand soon."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Vassa nods in appreciation at Raener's disclosure of why and how he, and incidentally Floon, got caught in the sights of both the Zhentarim and Xanathar's Guild. However, currently enjoying the drinks, company and distinct lack of evil villains trying to kill him in the Portal's taproom as he is, the half-drow bard's dark angular features crease into a slight frown at the notion of planning further death defying adventures so soon after escaping doom in the sewers below.
Winking at Asa while he reaches over to *clink* glasses with Aenio, Vassa graces Raener and Floon both with a small smile as he says,'
"Thank you for your honesty in explaining how all of this came to be, Raener. Treasure is nice and gold can come in handy, no doubt. And I've certainly no aversion to golden treasures or treasures that lead to hidden mountains of gold. However, as we've only just returned from risking life and limb below, I admit to being more interested in enjoying our recent success right now, including the spoils thereof, than in leaping straight into yet another harrowing adventure.
Kes and Locky both sit here sporting wounds from our recent escapades, and I for one plan to get rather drunk while sharing tales of the days heroics. And, of course, there is the matter of renegotiating and collecting our reward... seing as we were hired to find and return Floon, but ended up also rescuing the son of Neverwinter's ruling lord no less!"
Vassa says the last with a pointed look at Volo.

At this Volo drains the last of his drink and pulls something from the inside pocket of his coat. “I confess that I have but few coins to spare. But never let it be said that Volo reneges on a promise. Allow me to present something much more valuable that the coin I offered.”
He holds out a scroll tube to Vassa. “The deed to a remarkable property here in Waterdeep! We’ll need a magistrate to witness the transfer of ownership. I’ll arrange a meeting with one after you’ve inspected the estate and deemed it satisfactory. Seeing how first light can't be more than an hour or two from now, I'm willing to stay and continue drinking until then, or we can adjurn for sleep and", sniffing loudly, "baths and meet there later... say around noon?"
Silver just blinks as his face shows a little surprise as the information of Floon comes to light "You're that much of a bloody noble...you son of a *****, you've been getting my services for cheap."
As Volo hands over the deed to Vassa he just stares at the deed, wondering how they are all going to share this nice house "Well looks we all made out pretty well, getting a house and all. How much is the house worth?"

Vassa looks genuinely surprised, and somewhat suspicious, when Volo holds out the property deed and suggests the ammendment to their agreed upon deal. Reaching out tentatively to take the tube, the tipsy bard says,'
"Ahh, well... that IS an interesting proposal, Volo. I mean, two hundred gold is a substantial amount of coin, but an ESTATE of our own, right here in the city? It does seem tempting, no doubt.
It's not cursed or anything, is it? Has trapdoors leading to a gang headquarters below or something like that? Not that I think you would do something so underhanded to us, but unexpected generous offerings sometimes make me a little nervous.
I mean, I definitely think that we'll have to check the place out before agreeing, but Silver's question seems a reasonable one."
Vassa studies the famous writer as carefully as he can in his somewhat inerbriated state, before opening the tube to read the deed, paying special attention to the age, size and location of the property if noted.

Volo smiles at the question, "No, no. The property isn't cursed. I bought the property because it is rumored to be haunted, and I was hoping that investigating it might yield a chapter for my next book, Volo’s Guide to Spirits and Specters. But it turns out that it wasn't haunted at all, as far as I can tell. As to it's true value, who can say? I bought it at an estate auction for quite the discounted rate. But if you were to clean it up and re-open the tavern in it, I'm sure you all would find it quite valuable."
As you all pass the deed around, you see that it's for a property called Trollskull Manor and it's located in the North Ward. You see the deed has already been notarized.
While you've been talking about the property, Renaer retrieves another round of drinks for the table. After he passes them out and returns to his chair he looks to the most vocal pair of the group, Vassa and Silver. "About that treasure that my father supposedly embezzled. It wasn't just a few thousand coins. The story is, the treasure he's hidden in Waterdeep iS the in the area of half a million dragons."
After saying this, Renaer pauses for everyone's reactions. He smiles when Aenio chokes on his drink.
"As you can imagine, more than just the criminal organizations are after this. And my fear is the streets will soon run red with those caught up in it. I'm part of an organization that is dedicated to helping maintain peace and safety. In this current situation, we also want to make sure no tyrants or the like get their hands on this treasure. But more to my point, with your recent activities you have undoubtedly angered both the Zhents and Xanathar. This puts you all in danger. If you're willing, I'd like to have one of our order join you, not a warrior to fight for you, as I don't think you need it, but a cleric to work with you and keep you in good health."
Carefully tucking his crossbow into his cloak before turning around to face the speaker open handed with his most disarming and friendly smile on his face, Vassa says with a 'play along' wink at Silver,'

Floon looks up? "Me, noble? Ha! I haven't a drop of nobility in me." Elbowing Renaer, "I just like hanging out with those who are."

[OOC] Vassa has been fully celebrating their success as planned, so i'll make a con save to see if he's drunk or just 'merry': 13 - success, so definitely not drunk yet.
