How far is the door to the throne? Depending on range of target is what spell from uses but he will fire something for sure surprise attack means advantage on attack I believe:)
21 if no surprise use what ever the first roll was of this :) once I know distance I will post spell
Edit: oh DAMN THAT SHOULD HIT here we go boys!!!
Sure, you can all have a surprise round to get into position, or attack (The monsters are not surprised.. because you know... Talien.... You're just getting a bonus round).
Alten will take the shortest line to the edge of the pit and glance down. Can I tell how far down it is or what's down there?
Need a DM's ruling on Command. It says the spell won't work if the command is "directly harmful". I've had DMs rule it both ways in this kind of situation. I want to put myself on the far side of the pit from the chief and tell him to Approach if it is a good long drop (the idea being that getting the leader/chief out of the fight disrupts and demoralizes the fighters). Do I know or can I make a check to try and figure out how my god of Torm would interpret this clause as it relates to his divine powers?
That's loosely worded. The command itself isn't directly harmful, but the drop may be (you wouldn't know until you looked down). But, I'll allow it. Make a religion check for the last part regarding Torm please.
The three hobgoblins are wearing chain mail and have shields laying near them. You're not quite sure what to make of the goblin, but she looks to be wearing robes over old leather armor.
Watching Talien, Rees' eyes go wide. "And he was worried about me being a danger to myself or the group?"She'll try to sneak in and get in a position to be able to sneak attack the one with the longsword.
Stealth, if needed: 12
How close you do you want to be? What side of the shaft do you want to be on (please provide a direction N,S,E,W,NW, etc.).

We're coming in from the southern door, correct? If so, she'll scoot along the wall to the north and go maybe halfway between the two doors? Unless that puts her right under the torch and in plain view - in that case, she'll stick to the shadow just outside the torchlight.

No, you came in through the Northwestern door. TBH there's not really anywhere to hide in this room. You can press up to the wall between the torches at 12 and 3 o'clock.
EDIT: Sorry didn't see your next post until after I posted this one. So, I have you between 4 and 5 o'clock. You think you scooted through unnoticed.

As Durn questions your arrival Talien races into the circular room shouting death threats with his greatsword raised overhead. He brings the heavy weapon down onto the unsuspecting hobgoblin lounging under the torch at 12 o'clock. Alten moves swiftly into the room to access the situation and finds four unprepared warriors and an unusually garbed goblin. He correctly accesses that the leader is seated on the throne and yells a command word at him, but the hobgoblin laughs it off. Grom enters through the doorway and unleashes a beam of crackling blue arcane energy at the laughing hobgoblin. Durn's laughter turns into a cry of surprise and pain as the smell of burnt hair fills the room. Rees slips behind Grom and into the shadows behind as he casts his spell.
CURRENT POSITIONS:

Wisdom save: 19.
For future reference, does that mean it would have worked had he not saved? And does that mean the pit is deep enough that it would cause falling damage?
I intended for that to be a request for a ruling before declaring the action, but lets go with it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

You would have to check the depth for falling damage, but it would have worked as he allowed you to try as I understand it.

If that's the case then Rees will just do the opposite of what I said LOL, scoot south along the wall to the shadow at the edge of the torchlight.
