LoL, I had no idea that taverns and eateries, etc. were so well hidden, it's almost like they don't want customers at all. Fair enough then, all good. I was apparently a bit over-ambitious with the scope of things, my bad. 🌈 😳
After learning this Laza heads to talk with Pike, asking "Pike... Getting into campus is rather difficult. They all have very well made ID cards. Who is the Blades' best at forging this type of identity documentation?"
Brayton will spend the first week observing the area for any parcel delivery service and groundskeeping/janitorial work in the arcaneum. Also trying to keep an eye for our target and her normal “schedule” of office hours etc.
You see there is indeed a significant janitorial and groundskeeping service operating out of the main administration building. There are some sheds around the back where most of the equipment is kept and workers come and go from their frequently. There's also a postal service which runs from a room inside the administration building. Couriers carry internal and external mail and packages between the different campus buildings fairly frequently. The packages range in size up to several feet across. You can only guess what's in some of the more oddly-shaped parcels. The janitors, groundskeepers and couriers all have simple uniforms. Like all other staff, they have their IDs checked as they enter campus buildings. It seems most of these services run mostly during the normal workday.
One day you're lucky and spot some students talking to an elf they refer to as "Professor Crana" at dusk. She's a tall elf with fine golden hair. She looks young but, being an elf, that could mean she's centuries old. She's talking in an engaging way the students, appearing to explain a concept from her lectures. She appears happy and laughs and jokes with the students as they talk and they're reciprocating. When she's finished talking to the students you follow her (Stealth: 10). She looks around at one point but you act nonchalant and blend into the crowd. You see her shake her head as if dismissing a thought before continuing. After a few minutes she arrives at a house just outside the campus. It has a six-feet high wall running around it and a sturdy gate. Through the gate you see it's a moderately large house made out of light coloured stone with well-kept grounds. You hear children playing in the back garden.
Over the next few days you follow her when you can. She seems to be at the university from about 9am to 7pm most days. Most of this time is spent in the Enchanting Department, but she goes to the main cafeteria to eat lunch at around midday most days and also makes irregular trips to the administration building and the library.
"It matters "replies Rothnar to Eirril " because that could be a way to infiltrate the compuond. I do not question your methods in your art good sir, please show us the same respect." he says. There's something in his voice that makes most of his words sound like a thread, as if there is a meneance hidden in his words.
"I will need 150 gold upfront for this work. "he turns to Pike " You could deduct it from my reward at the end of it"
If they give him the money he will go and buy the gloves he had reserved at the Emporium
He then will try to take himself a job as gardener in the arcaneum.
Eirril shrinks a little at your words and becomes quiet.
When you turn to Pike he considers your request (Persuasion: 4) "I'm afraid I can't do that Rothnar, I trust you and like you, but we have rules regarding advanced payments. Last thing I want to do is have you in debt to Baldes if you fail the job! Then I'd have to hunt you down and kill you and neither of us want that!" he laughs heartily, but you can see his eyes aren't laughing.
When you arrive at the Arcaneum, you enter the administration building and enquire about a job as a gardener. A bored-looking guard directs you to the gardening sheds behind the building. There you find a spritely and joyful gnome named Bilji who gives you a brief interview (Persuasion: 13). He seems to not have very high standards and accepts you. You come by the next day and are issued your uniform, some tools and you identity card. It's a clearly magical item designed to make it hard to counterfeit or later. It has an image of your face on its front and a description of your job as "Grounds Maintenance". Over the next few days you're put to work tending the lawns and plants of the campus (Nature: 9) You're not very good at it, but not so bad you get noticed. You pay particular attention to the administration building, the Enchanting Department and the Library (Perception: 8). One day you're working on the bushes next to the library and you notice a rusty grate set into the base of the wall of the library. You're unable to see where it goes, however. It looks disused and forgotten. You don't notice anything useful about the administration building or Enchanting Department.
Ruhvon will spend the first three days mirroring Harpy, but working from the ground. Utilizing his wildshape by turning into rats, spiders, cats, and other small/tiny beasts. He will try to locate the records room where the floorplans may be located as well as taking notice of who the security is at the doors of the library. Another two days or so would be spent skulking in the sewers around the area, looking for possible points of entry from below, and mapping the area to be able to move quickly between buildings of the Arcaneum.
You find the room marked "Records and Plans" inside the administration building without difficulty. You wait until it's dark and the building is deserted before sneaking into the room. Transforming back into your normal shape, you're able to search the plans and find a floorplan of the library. It shows the Controlled Section is down a staircase behind the doors to the Section in the library and is spread across two sub-basements. The plans are fairly old and don't show where individual items are kept, but do contain details of a number of traps built into the library. If you go there, your party will have advantage at perception rolls to spot traps.
The guards at the library rotate throughout the day and week so there are a large number to keep track of and you don't get much detailed information on each of them individually. As Erik and Laza noticed, the library appears to be open all day and all night to staff and students and less professional guards appear to be on duty at night. Occasionally, one will appear to nod off for a while when the library is quiet. They're obviously not the highest calibre of lookout.
You're able to explore the sewers without much problem or resistance. There are pipes which discharge into the sewer from the bathrooms of most buildings in the campus, similar to the pipes you encountered under Hangman's Lane. You're not easily able to tell where they come out within the buildings. If you could get up the pipes, you could at least get into pretty much any building on campus if you wanted to. There are two maintenance access points to the sewers inside the campus. One is behind the administration building and the other is next to the Department of Transmutation, which is located between the Library and the Department of Enchanting.
LoL, I had no idea that taverns and eateries, etc. were so well hidden, it's almost like they don't want customers at all. Fair enough then, all good. I was apparently a bit over-ambitious with the scope of things, my bad. 🌈 😳
You found the taverns and eateries well enough, it was unfortunate that your deception roll to charm your way into the social circles didn't go too well. If you had rolled better I would have given you a bit more information and contacts.
Did you want to try anything on any of the tours I described?
After learning this Laza heads to talk with Pike, asking "Pike... Getting into campus is rather difficult. They all have very well made ID cards. Who is the Blades' best at forging this type of identity documentation?"
Pike replies "Why, that would be Emilda Snatcher. I can put you in contact if you like? I imagine she'd be able to whip you something up at a reasonable cost." He proceeds to tell you where you might find her.
((I'm going to assume since this is taking place over multiple days, that we're all hanging out occasionally at night sharing these details. Everyone ok with that?))
Seeing Rothnar's ID card, Laza will ask to borrow it just for a short amount of time so that he can take it to Emilda Snatcher and let her have a look at the card, as well as the magical effects of it. He'll then also explain what he saw of students cards. Though hopefully she'll have some idea of what these look like. He obviously returns Rothnar's card ASAP and heads back to Emilda to discuss pricing and what she's able to make for him.

Yes, you can absolutely assume you're meeting up ans haring info.
You follow Pike's instructions to a worn-down warehouse on the outskirts of Dogtown. It's deserted and slowly crumbling into disrepair. You move through the building until you find a metal door in a secluded corner. You knock on it and a voice replies from the other side "Yes, who is it?" The voice sounds old and wizened. You explain that you're a member of the Blades looking for Emilda Snatch and the door unlocks. Standing in front of you is an aged and shrivelled elven female who beckons you inside. The room is lit by a number of candles and you see various pieces of mechanical and magical equipment you don't recognise around the sides of the room. You explain what you want and she listens intently. When you hand her the card she examines it closely "Yes, I think I can reproduce this. I'll need to study it to work out how to replicate the enchantments, get materials and produce the new ones. I can produce the first card for 20gp and any subsequent cards for 10gp each. I bet they have a record of who should have a card and I can't change that record so it won't stand up to extended scrutiny, but I can produce something that should get you into a building for sure. Of course, I'll need anyone you want to receive a card to come by in order for me to record their likeness as well. I can probably get the fakes made in a day. Does that sound agreeable? How many would you like?"
Brayton would try to get a job as a parcel delivery person or grounds keeper. If that didn’t work out he would go with Laza to get a fake id
Following Rothnar's lead you turn up to the administration building and ask for a job as a courier within the Arcaneum. You're directed to a post-room on the ground floor run by a burly half-orc named Orok. He conducts an interview (Persuasion: 7) but you stumble over some simple questions and the half-orc looks down their nose at you. "Oi don't fink you've got wot it takes mate. Sorry. Good luk in yor serch fer a job." and you disappointed and perhaps a little offended. You also try Bilji the groundskeeper for a job he tells you they're recently full - it seems they got a new recruit recently and don't have any openings.
I'm happy to say you accompanied Laza to meet Emilda.
After the failed entry and talking to the students Erik will wait head to Katar's and ask for sleeping poison if she has any, while he waits on Laza.
Erik would like to host a party for the Leagues especially the Zeta League as they are know to party, at a bar in the city. He will spend the appropriate amount gold for the party, while everyone is have a great time and getting tossed. Erik would like to pick some of theirs pockets in hopes of two student badges.
[Erik would definitely use the alias David Weyland for the party and badge. Maybe he could get adv. As his goal is to get them blacked out drunk.]

As you enter the store, Katar beams and shuffle out from behind her desk to greet you. "Oh, hello dear! It's lovely to see you again! Your colleague gave me my locket back - I do hope it wasn't too much trouble to retrieve it." She touches the locket and smiles. "What can I help you with today my dear?" You describe that you're looking for a sleep potion and her brow ruffles "Hmm, that's certainly not something very common, I'll have a look out back and see what I've got..." she shuffles to the back of the shop and begins rummaging through shelves and boxes ((I'm going to do a straight roll to see if she has one - there's not anything in the rules as written, but we can make something up. But it's rare. It'll be a 16+ for her to have it. 19))
She returns "Well, what do you know? I do have one in stock! I remember now, I got it from a gensai. Nice chap. Although he did almost burn down my shop. Not great at controlling fire... Anyway, yes, I can sell this to you. I think that, including your discount, a fair price would be 100 gold. Would you like it?" ((If you decide you'd like this, it will essentially be one of these: https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/84133-potion-of-sleep ))
You put up some posters all over the campus and hand out fliers to the members of Zeta League inviting them all to a party at a local tavern for students - The Crossed Wands. That evening you arrive at the tavern and wait for the students to arrive. It's a fairly posh tavern by the standard you're used to. There are no broken windows or furniture and the clientele, whilst drunk, seem to lack any violent tendency. It's an hour after the start time you put on the flyers and you're beginning to worry. Then a large group of students burst through the door chanting "Zeta! Zeta! Zeta!" and chanting an whooping. They're already quite drunk it seems. As you greet them they're pleased to meet you "Dude, we love a good party! This is going to be awesome! You're partying with the Zetas now" You buy some drinks over the next few hours (remove 5 gold) and the students insist you join in with their drinking games (Constitution roll to see if you end up getting drunk 2).
Peer pressure is a powerful thing, and the beer here is strong. When you decide to try and pick some pockets, you're as drunk as they are (the advantage and disadvantage cancel each other out). You sidle up next to a very drunk male who you think looks vaguely like you, hoping their likeness on their card will be similar to you. You slide your hand into their pocket (Sleight of Hand: 2) The student turns and notices your hand. "Hey man, what are you doing? Not cool!" He turns to his friends "This guy's not cool at all! he tried to pickpocket me!" There are about twenty League members around you at the bar. They're looking around at the commotion and many of them are looking quite unhappy at you. What do you do?
"I think you're mistaken my friend, I think you've had to much to drink."
Deception: 14
OK, because you're intoxicated, you'll roll with disadvantage, so here's your second roll: 11
However, the League member is also intoxicated so they'll roll their insight roll with disadvantage as well: 11
The League member looks confused. "I guess that's my mistake, pal" he slurs at you before claps you around the shoulders "Let me buy you a drink..." The crowd quickly loses interest in you.
You can try again if you like, but you wouldn't be able to weasel out of it a second time and it seems like the crowd would probably beat you up. Would you like to try?
With his new ID card Laza will head back to the uni and just get a feel for the place. Again looking for guards around the library (and try to learn some of their names), the different professors' offices (both Tolith Crana and Eirril Frilstaer), look for entrance or escape routes, and actually do some student things as well. He's never really had much formal education. So he'll also sit in a few abjuration or evocation classes, and perhaps at least one of both Tolith Crana and Eirril Frilstaer, though sitting as far back as possible and keeping his head down in these.
Ruhvon would bring the plans back to the Blades' headquarters and have someone make a quick transcription so we can have a copy. Then return it the next day. Also, he would make sure the sewer maintenance access points are unlocked.
Upon hearing about the grate at the base of the library from Rothnar, Ruhvon would shadow the 'groundskeeper' and try to gain access through the grate and do some initial investigation of the area within. Does the grate appear on the plans?
