"Help me instead of just whining you bastard, prove you are worth something."The frustration in his voice as another of his men falls is clear. Running straight for the pair of enemies Vhon lets a wave of power rush out from him, each of his enemies feels a tug at their emotions that threatens to become an all encompassing fear.
Using Fey Presence DC15 Wis Save or become Frightened.
Someone had blundered. Theirs not to make reply, theirs not to reason why, theirs but to do and die. Into the Cavern of Death, into the mouth of hell ran the last two!(with apologies to Lord Tennyson)
Vhon runs around the corner and sees that the human with the longbow is on his right in the small cavern and a hobgoblin dressed in scale armour wielding a long sword is at the edge of where the passageway opens out to a much larger cavern. As he runs past the human his face turns into something almost feral and nightmarish (DC 15 required & 10 rolled). The human back away in fear.
Vhon reaches the hobgoblin and notices the following: a) he is now standing on damp sand and there appears to be a tide line about 3 feet up the walls; and b) standing behind the hobgoblin about 20 feet from what is ocean's edge is the figure dressed in robes with a somewhat surprised look on his face that the party (or what remains of it) would charge.
The hobgoblin swings his longsword at Vhon (Attack: 20 Damage: 5)
Gilly takes advantage of the human's discomfort with Vhon to rush past him, firing a shot as he does which misses, to stand back to back with Vhon.
Seeing the hobgoblin baring down on him Vhon squeezes off another bolt from his crossbow before falling back down the tunnel "Gilly move! Let's not stand around waiting to get chopped up."
Attack 9 for 8 piercing damage.

Vhon - Level 2 Warlock - What shall become of the Drunken Sailor?
Realising that if he turns and runs the Hobgoblin will get in an attack anyway, Vhon stays and faces the oncoming blow. As he does so he can see that the Wizard has summoned sort of magical force and is obviously holding it in check.
As the Hobgoblin raises his sword, the Wizard yells out "Og don't kill him - he may be of some use later!"The Hobgoblin manages to turn the blade at the last moment (Attack: 13 Damage: 7). However due to trying to turn his strike into a non-lethal shot all that the Hobgoblin can do is make a glancing blow off Vhon's scalp that does no more than open up a shallow wound.
The Human scout recovers from his momentary incapacitation resulting from Vhon's fearful presence and dropping his longbow draws his shortsword and stabs at Gilly (Attack: 21 Damage: 6) opening up a deep wound in his thigh.
The Wizard looks around in disgust muttering "I always have to do it myself"as he releases a magic missile at Vhon, one at Gilly and the third one at (1-2 Gilly / 3-4 Vhon) [2] doing 5 to Gilly, 3 to Vhon and a further 5 to Gilly who collapses to the ground with a groan.
"Damn it, well let's see if we can both bleed for it." Vhon drops his crossbow and draws his dagger in one motion slashing at the eyes of the hobgoblin.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
And the last one falls!
Vhon opens up a deep wound over the Hobgoblin’s right eye. The Hobgoblin grunts in surprise and then smiles warmly at Vhon to see him fight so valiantly, standing over his colleague's unconscious bodies before attempting to hit the Captain once again with the flat of his blade (Attack: 13 Damage: 6) who then collapses with a groan.
Another rude awakening – Late in the First Dog Watch (about 5.30 pm) Day 10, First Ten-day, Month of Tsarkah (The Claw of Storms) (OOC: you’re all now Level 2)
Three days after waking on a beach most of you (Gilly, Tiro, Vhon and Zin), find yourself climbing out of the depths of unconsciousness again but this time it is not to the gentle breeze and gentle, yet cool sunlight, on your faces. Rather it is to the stench of a bilge, the pain of various bruises, the swish of water near your ears, and the rolling and pitching of a ship under full sail.
As you look around in the flickering light of a single lantern swaying you realise you are in some sort of a storeroom in the bow of the ship. Whilst your legs are free, you realise that you are all wearing manacles and that these are then chained to the ship’s hull.
As you look around, a quick body count indicates that Floki and Zeph are missing. However there is a fifth body – also manacled and chained – leaning against the wall. The most noticeable things about this stranger is that his left leg is badly twisted – having obviously been badly broken and then poorly set – and his chalk white skin and white hair.

Tiro stretches as best he can then does a quick self inspection. Am I intact and fully healed? Still just wearing a loincloth? Do I still have my conch? Do we consider ourselves to have had a long rest? He looks around (How is everyone dressed?) and says "Well that didn't quite go according to plan." to no-one in particular. "Are we all OK? It looks like we are missing a couple."
"Oh, Hello," Tiro says to the ghost-like stranger, "Looks like your day didn't go to plan either."

Zin shakes his head to clear the fog. As he slowly comes to he realizes the situation. He manages to hold the fear in as he flashbacks to when this same situation happened years ago. But looking around he sees that this time he is not alone.
"Sorry captain, I let you down back there. I should have done better, fought smarter."
Looking around he tries to get a better idea of the type of ship they are in.
"Slavers for sure, blast it. And now we're in it deep. And what about Floki and Zeph? They didn't make it?"
Hallard looks up at the sound of the voice. "Ah it looks like Sigurd has finally decided to give me some company!" at the mention days not going to plan, he chuckles. "Nothing had gone right for me since my ship got destroyed by a storm!"
Gilly's eyes open slowly, then widen. He looks around with a sudden intake of air, his body stiffening. Once his eyes fall on Vhon, he deflates, closing his eyes again and sighing. "I'm sorry, Cap'n," the firbolg says quietly. "I failed you again."
OOC: "You’re all dressed in clothes if you had them but no much more," meaning no armor, weapons or other equipment?
Vhon looks over himself in silence, the apologies from the others filtering through a haze of anger and hurt, the knowledge that he'd lost two of them, most probably dead in the sand and stone because he hadn't known when to cut his losses and retreat is like a knife in his heart. His closest friend from the crew, Floki, who had saved his life several times in the past was gone, Zeph seemingly had run out of lives too, but the cat had seemed ok when he'd moved on - maybe they had been unwilling to let a caster live. He frantically tried to remember if he'd used any spells himself, surely the fear he'd put in that archer had been noticed, then again maybe they just didn't like tabaxi...
"Don't apologise, it is my weight to bear, not yours." He barely recognises his own voice as he replies to Zin and Gilly. "I should have taken the deal and got you all out safely, but my pride was too great and my abilities too limited to do what needed to be done." His chin dropping until it rests against his chest Vhon returns to silence.
...
"Vhon, can you hear me? This is not what I wanted for us, listen to me Vhon, you need to pull yourself together."
"Leave me alone, you didn't help me when I needed you, I felt the power you have! You could have done so much more, you could have helped me save them."
"You must earn the power Vhon, it is not without cost, I think you have paid heavily for it now though and I will help you, I do not wish to see you fade away in bitterness but the power I offer binds us tighter Vhon, the more you take the more you will be asked of. Will you take what I offer?"
"Your deal or rotting here at the hands of slavers, ha, I have little to lose, what do you have to give me?"
"You have no crossbow, let me make the eldritch forces you can hurl stronger. You are a cunning little devil when you need to be, I offer you the chance to deceive everyone you meet more easily, you can wear whatever face you want Vhon, just remember it is an illusion. You may need to take down your enemies quietly and I have a spell you can cast to make them sleep soundly, make sure you do not catch your friends in the midst of it."
"These seem like real gifts, you have my agreement, let the pact be reforged. If I cannot bring them back I can take my vengeance."
OOC: Ha ha! Now I get to make up all the stories myself and Wreckzors can't dispute any of them.
Gilly sighs. "Good-bye, my feline friend," he says aloud, but quietly. "I'll never forget you, nor our exploits. If I make it back to the Coast, I'll find your sister and let her know you died fighting. Not the crazy one. Your younger sister. She'll be proud of you. I know I am." He sighs again, then looks in the stranger's direction. "What's your name, stranger? I'm called Gilly. The Cap'n's Vhon. Zin and Tiro," he says, nodding at the (I just realized that Gilly, Vhon, Zin and Tiro all have blue skin. Or is Zin's green?) other three blue-skins in succession. "Three of us are what remains of the crew of the Cobalt Conveyor. We rescued Tiro from certain doom." Gilly looks at Tiro and attempts to shrug. "Sorry, bub. Looks like we failed."
