"Greetings," Aleister says firmly, "My name is Aleister. We are traveling thru your land on the way to Truth or Consequences to help this person," he signals toward Sarah, "who is seeking her family. We have some trade items, news from the west and northwest and we have also recently run into some rather nasty bushwackers close to your territory that you might wish to be aware of." He points to Larry(?) and continues; "This is one survivor of an attempted ambush of us. He tells of a magic using bandit leader, 'Bolton' seems to be his name, who is attempting to establish place for himself and his cutthroats. We brought him here to face your justice as he was party to nefarious activities that could prove detrimental to you. Mostly I figured you would not want his ilk rampaging around the edges of your domains.
"I have some healing skills as well and would offer such services as you might need of them as a gesture of peace. After all there are forces alive in the world that would enslave any who prefer to breathe free air, and all who would contest such tyranny should know who are willing the stand against them. Am I wrong in thinking that the Apache Nation would feel the same as my people do about such tyrants?"
" Welcome. I'm Eliezer Feldstein, chief (so to speak) of the southern patrol. We know about Bolton. His crew was raiding near our northern borders but the Elders did some spirit summoning to drive them out. We'll be happy to take this one of your hands." Larry starts whimpering. You do a news swap and hear more about the battle for El Paso. The Apache send some scouting units to help out and the locals held the line against Cartel forces.
Uthvern will want to look at the group and see if he can notice anything out of the ordinary,

You perceive that the leader of theApache patrol has a very thick Brooklyn accent and a very Jewish name. It's so annoying that no one was reacting to that. I've got this joke all lined up and... [sigh].
"Strange name and accent for an Apache, Chief? Just curious, understand." Aleister smiles. "I wouldn't mind having a talk with your medical folks, learn what I can about the plants and critters one can find useful round here."

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
George is keeping his mouth shut and his eyes open, gladly letting Sarah and Al take the lead here.
He's making all the right motions about being a peaceable fellow - hood back, blade sheathed, but he's kept his bowstrung and near to hand - just in case.
OOC - such a thing wouldn't be abnormal, since I doubt there are truly enough full blood Apache in the new world to qualify as a small army, much less a nation. Others joining their new empire would be expected. :)

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar

DM Sulks - no, too late.
Eliezer "My mother is the Chief's daughter and met dad when she went to college in New York. I was lucky enough to be visiting when the Change occurred." He refers you to one of his men who knows about local fauna and flora.
Thomas pipes up "If we have time, I'd really appreciate a few minutes to speak with your shaman or anyone else using magic in the area. I've a small talent with it, myself and I'm looking to expand my knowledge."

"The Elders do that stuff but we do have one of the apprentices here." From your talk you work out that their magic is different from your magic. They do nature and spirit based magic, yours is more technical, making stuff happen rather than asking nature or ancestors to help.
"And hear anything you know about Truth and Consequences," Sarah reminds.
Yet again you hear stories about something from the military research labs roaming the area. People who go onto the base either come out running, scared of something unseen or they don't come out at all. The locals just stay away.
"Thanks for telling me what you know. Government experimentation might have been fodder for conspiracy theorists once but now after the Change?" Sarah says, shaking her head and then hears something the apprentice said about ancestor spirits. "Wait, ancestor spirits? I.. ah.. don't suppose you know how to shut them up? No offense but Gramps has opinions."
As she speaks, she feels a wave of indignation from the saber. Then a sense of stubbornness and she realized he was being contrary and finally ignoring her. Still, it wouldn't last and any hints about how the heck to deal with him would be great. Or some idea about how the hell he'd somehow glued himself to her side. It wasn't like she hadn't tried to 'lose' him but he came back like a bad penny. Spirits were all fine and good until they were real, Sarah thought sourly. Briefly she wondered if the shine had gone off for some of her Wiccan friends.

Well the border patrol seems satisfied with your story. Anything else or move on?

Power out. Using phone. Maybe 3 hours (!!!)
No worries. At least it's not 8 hrs :). Quite regular in Darwin where I grew up.
"His soul is attached to the sword? Destroy the sword is the only way, probably not what you want to hear."
"Not exactly, no. I'm not sure he'd allow it and I wouldn't rule out him returning to bother me in another form," Sarah replied.
Truth was that whatever Gramps had hooked himself up with had sunk its metaphorical claws in her. Ah well, it was worth a try.
