Fire bolt- Shoot a streaking ball of fire towards a foe and deal a measly 1d10 fire damage. Use eldritch blast instead.
Fireball - Drawing magic from your inner reserves, you unleash a devastating nuke that explodes in a circle, hitting multiple enemies, and burning them to a crisp with a godly amount of 8d6 fire damage. Make your DM’s fights look like garbage. It’s also a nice way of TPK your entire party and have them triggered at you for the rest of the week.
OOC: Sarah will also keep her armor. She'll keep hidden and out of sight as possible. If we do need someone out in the open for face type duties, she'll use her chain shirt instead.
OOC - If the coast is clear, one of us will make two trips. :)

Okay, a plan.
The entry to Portland is busy in the mornings and evenings but calms down at midday. Are you going to the hotel (you have a room key) or are you going to scout out the city first?
Aleister questions everyone, as though he were a city guard; Why are you here? Where will you be staying? How long will you stay?, along those lines. "I think we need a story in case there are questions like these. Is the name of the hotel on that key?"
He shrugs, "Would we be traveling sales people? It would be good to know something about the place before we go wandering in like we had just fallen off a turnip truck."

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
"A cover story just in case we are spotted is a good precaution. I could pretend to be a fletcher who is seeking work. I just hope I wouldn't be conscripted," Sarah suggests. "Aleister could pretend to be a herbalist, perhaps? What about the rest of you?"
Thomas grins "With my size, I'd be sure to be conscripted. I think, if we do have to wander through the town, I'll disguise myself as a bit of a geek mage, able to do my magic as needed, but looking like I did back in high school - slim, awkward and wearing glasses. That should do the trick until I learn better. Once we learn more about the geopolitical situation in there, we can refine our disguises accordingly. I'm expecting a very medieval structure. Sort of like the SCA make real."Putting magic to his words, he spends a few minutes designing and testing the illusion, with input from the rest of the party, until it passes muster. "We should ghost in and head to the hotel invisible, in the morning, to start ."
OOC - we haven't gained a level yet, correct? Still level 5?

"I would suggest we find a concealed place and watch the comings and goings round Portland, if possible," Aleister says. "It may be that the ingress/egress is simple, maybe not, but would be something good to know, don't you think?"

WARNING: The PPA have banned all magic use except clerical performed by their pet Catholic clergy. You (the character) actually know this even if you (the player) have forgotten.

You only level up after an adventure finishes. I don't track experience I use milestones.
..."I'll disguise myself as a general man-at-arms, matching their basic gear. That should work for cursory checks. If they've banned magic, they won't be looking for it too hard. I wonder if they have made ways of tracing it's use? That could prove...awkward."

The key is marked "Embassy Suites - Hilton Portland 7C"
"Alright let's hunker down and start scouting. Aleister, I'll pretend to be your cousin if we need to reveal ourselves at all. A woman on her own in PPA territory might be an odd thing."
What are you trying to discover with your scouting? One thing you quickly find out is that Embassy suites is no longer a public hotel. It was taken over by SCA bigwigs after The Change and they use it as permanent residences now.
OOC: Can we send the ever trustworthy Gamliel to check the suit's windows? It's possible news of the priestess' death has hit Portland. Don't want to walk into a trap. We also need to work on securing a route into the city and possibly a hiding place where we can wait so we can do two trips. Info on how to breach the city would be good too. Gates, guards, patrols, inspection methods, magical detection?
OOC - are we inside to find this out? If so, hole up in a safe, secluded area and use Calirvoyance to scout out the area , the hotel and the room, if possible.

“I don’t imagine we can just wander in the place, so anybody got any ideas?” Aleister sounds a bit frustrated.
