"I'd rather not kill the dogs mate. They seem pretty scared and upset. We might be able to use that to our advantage. Hey Tarin, can you reach out to them?"
Tarin will wait for Cahoots to finish any investigations before he responds. Then the gnome shakes his head, listening to the cave. "I'm afraid my connection is only with the small beasts of the woodlands. These are wolves and sound a bit too feral for direct communication. But as Bankur says, perhaps they are just hungry? I have plenty of rations."
"I don't think we need to bother the dogs, we can just sneak right past that room, but I suppose it would be cruel to leave them chained up here. If we can clam them down somehow perhaps we can release them, I doubt they want to stick around. Tarin, do you have any spells that could calm them or maybe make them go to sleep long enough for us to unchain them then get out of there. I bet if they wake up unchained they will just leave."
(OOG: When we actually head deeper into the cave Penumbra is happy to go in front stealthily to act as a scout, or just to get in some sneak attacks.)
Tarin thinks for a moment. "That could work, although I think that would be a very expensive use of my limited resources. And I am virtually certain there are worse things in here than a few riled-up wolves. I'd rather we tried feeding them first and then shooing them out the front of the cave, frankly. If they're this mistreated hopefully they'll be eager to leave."
He pulls out one of his rations. "I don't suppose one of us wants to be the bait and offer this food to them?"
(OOC: So going to assume the following marching order based on the posts above: Penumbra; Raldean; Rand; Tarin, Salty Joe; Tarin. Let me know if you want to move...)
The caves are completely dark...Rand, Raldean, and Bankur will need some kind of light source to travel further into the caves. Penumbra, Salty Joe, and Tarin however can see quite well because of their heritage. Tarin describes what he sees through the owl's eyes as it flies deeper into the caves.
The caves and tunnels have steeply sloping ceilings that create stalactite-covered vaults rising 20 to 30 feet above the floor, with the occasional stalagmite thrusting up from the floor. The main passage from the cave mouth climbs steeply upward, the stream plunging and splashing down its west side. In the shadows, a side passage leads west across the other side of the stream. In the shadows of the ceiling to the north, you can just make out the dim shape of a rickety bridge of wood and rope crossing over the passage ahead of you. Another passage intersects this one, twenty feet above the floor. There is a lone goblin on the bridge who appears to be watching the passage from the south - it does not appear to notice the swift and silent Cahoots. The familiar returns to its master at this point.
"We're going to have to deal with that goblin. It's watching the passageway, and if we go too much farther down the tunnel I'm certain it's going to be trouble for us." Tarin looks around at the group. "Perhaps Penumbra, Salty Joe, and myself can sneak in to take a potshot or three to dispatch it?"
Rand blinks hard into the darkness, but is unable to make out anything very clearly. "That sounds like a plan, Tarin. I can't see the goblin, and if I light a torch now, it will surely give us away."
"Perhaps Penumbra can fly up t' cut it's throat, if'n any o' yer spellslingers stop im runnin' away?" Raldaen recalls wizards holding people stock still, as they tried to flee in times past... It always seemed such an unfair advantage when he shot them after that.
"Dem doggies might give us away anyway with their hollerin' if we don't act quick like!"
Tarin thinks for a moment, rummaging through his mental spellbook, but then shakes his head. "I don't have anything like that prepared at the moment, unfortunately. I can't think of anything else that would let us get past him besides everyone being lucky with our attempts at sneaking, but that seems tough when several members of our party can't see without a light."
"Shall we make our move on the count of three?" If Salty Joe and Penumbra are amenable to make a surprise one-shot ranged assault on the goblin scout to take it out, then Tarin prepares himself. He makes a quick pass with his hand and a clenching motion with his fist, holding the energy of a spell tight and ready to release it.
(OOC: Tarin readies toll the dead; Wisdom save DC 13, range 60 feet, 11 💀 damage or 6 💀 damage if the goblin has all its hit points. He releases the spell after both Salty Joe and Penumbra make ranged attacks, hoping they damage the goblin first to take advantage of the spell.)
"If we all miss or it spots us I will fly up there and try to push it off the bridge as quickly and quietly as possible." Penumbra smiles mischievously and adds. "Without their bows these little guys are pushovers." She then nocks an arrow and prepares herself, drawing her wings in close to her back and crouching down slightly to reduce her profile.
So if Penumbra, Salty Joe, and Tarin are sneaking in, go ahead and roll your stealth. If you beat the goblin's passive perception (9!), then you get to attack with advantage.
Bankur, Rand and Raldean, you can wait by the entrance until you get an all-clear...
The wolves do continue to yip and snarl, but don't make any special effort to lunge at you if you are just passing by...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tarin isn't actually trying to sneak in, just waiting for Penumbra and Salty Joe to take pot shots before letting his spell loose, but he tries to be quiet nonetheless.
(I dont have any ranged weapons just vicious mockery unless any of the goblins we fought had short bows and arrows? Heres the thing, I can cast sleep on the wolves but that is the last of my magic and our parties healing. We need to find a way to get past the wolves without killing them first then deal with the goblin on the bridge after)
(OOC: I thought the wolves were tied up and in a separate room. They're not in the way of the bridge goblin. Can't we just sneak past them and/or throw them some food? If not, Tarin has a dagger you can borrow.)

(@ Keneux - We can bypass the wolves' room to get to the goblin. As a player I'd say co with the cantrip, rather than using your last spell slot.)
Raldaen readies his crossbow, but holds back at the entrance to the wolves' room, where he still has the light to see. Should he hear shouts that the others need aid, then he's ready to head forwards into the dark.

The tiefling, half-elf and gnome sneak further into the passage, each able to clearly see in the complete darkness. Although the wolves snarl at their passage, the goblin on the bridge doesn't seem to be paying them any attention. The trio manage to get practically below the bridge, close enough that the bard can throw his dagger at the lone guard. It sails true, hitting the creature in the mid-section. A moment later, Tarin whispers the arcane phrase and releases the spell he was holding. (DC13 WIS: 10) A deep, sonorous bell tolls, echoing off the cavern walls, and the goblin falls down, dead.
(OOC: Sorry for holding things up, had a break in at my shop and have been dealing with that all day. In the future if I am delayed and holding things up I have no problems with the DM rolling for Penumbra especially in a situation like that when we have a plan, though it appears my help was not needed here.)
Penumbra creeps in to the cave along with Tarin and Salty Joe prepared to loose her arrow as soon as their target is in range, unfortunately just as the trio get within range Penumbra takes a deep breath of the musty cave air and is assailed by the distinct tingling sensation that precedes a sneeze. Not wanting to call attention to the presence of her companions and herself she is forced to use her right hand to pinch her nostrils closed and stop the sneeze. Just as she does so her companions make their move.
"Sorry, Oh Gods goblin caves smell terrible, almost as bad as the sewers. Umm, But Nice job." She whispers, embarrassed by her nose's treachery.
Tarin looks around. "That's one down. But how many more, I wonder. Where to next; dealing with the wolves or further down the passage? I get the sense they don't take very good care of their canine friends here and that barking is a fact of life."
