Tommy winces at the muscular barbarian. "Alright, alright. No need to threaten a poor old man. HANNA" he shouts, forgetting that she is literally right beside him. "Can you get some water for these ....people. The big fella has offered to buy me a drink. Moonshine please" and he proceeds to sit down at a table. "There's not much for privacy but it's the best ye'll get"
Eyes once again going wide, you see that you have his attention now. He seems suddenly more focused and less, well, drunk. "Shhhhh! Keep it down! Not proper to discuss such things, by Procan. Sos two weeks back I was hungry. Critters haven't been failing for old Tommy's traps lately. So I was further out than usual, looking for food. Then I gets thirsty and I see the house and I say to myself 'Tommy, surely there's got to be food and drink in there. Ghosts are rubbish!' so I found a way in through the back door." Sensing a captive audience, he pauses for dramatic effect. "I crept in I did, started looking through the kitchen but there was nothing there. I was about to give up when I sees the celler door! 'Surely that old alchemist kept wine. Free wine!'. I started down the steps and Procan strike me down if I didn't hear the most horrible wails and shrieks. Now, seen as I used to be a powerful ranger, ol' Tommy wasn't scared by this. I was about to keep going when I felt a strong gust russle my hair. I backed up the stairs and the wails got worse. like...like something out of the 15th level of Hell. Cupboard doors started opening and shutting! The Cellar door slammed shut this pack of ghosts materialized in front of me! I swears! Ol' Tommy didn't survive this long by fighting the undead so I ran out of there then. That place be haunted and damned, I says."
Spoiler for Pringles and Quark
As Tommy is recanting this story, you can;t help but notice a few of the patrons shaking their heads and snickering a bit
Korik is enraptured with the story. He gets a great big grin on his face and he starts rubbing his hands together and looks at his companions in anticipation.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Are you sure? Ghosts? How many were there? Is it possible that your - she makes sure to emphasize here - wisdom and keen ranger senses didn’t take over before you got a good look at them?
Anticipating that the man may not realize she, a large bird, can speak and understand common, Quark coos softly then adds: Yes I am a large bird that talks. Please do not fear and speak truly.
In case it’s needed:
Persuasion: 4
[sorry!! I had to reroll because i accidentally said 11 d20 and got a Persuasion roll of 127.. :/ ]
You'd might be able to wrestle that bear if it had gotten into a cashe of fermented berries but I'd hardly say this is your "prime". What do you know about the house prior to it being "haunted by tons of undead". Also what's this about a horde?
Jayson doesn't pick up on much. Most of the folks don't seem to be listening. He does notice one man get up and shift further down the bar.
Tommy, hearing Quark talk, looks into his cup as if wondering what he's drinking. "HANNA! This isn't the special stuff I tell ya to only give me Fridays is it? You slipping things in me drink Jayson? I won't fall for no talking bird! It's downright rude to try and mess with me like that. You know the houses story before this as well as I. Old 'Midas' lived up there trying to turn owl shit into gold before the crazy took over and he had to take a brake. After he died it just sat there. Then, a couple months back people said they started hearing things and seeing spooky lights! I thought it was hogwash until I saws them ghosts meself!"
Pringles thinks we should go ahead and check it out. Korik is looking bored. Most of the people stay away from the house so they probably don’t have any good information. I do like Jayson’s idea about finding out the history of the place. What better way to solve a ghost problem on a house! But I’m also getting bored of talking with people and just want to get my feet wet, not literally lol.
The captain of the guard might have some better information but I’m content with running in the house and getting chased out by ghosts than trying to find good info from town. I’d rather risk potentially getting rich and seeing these ‘ghosts’ with my own eyes than running around town trying to find more info.
Darn, I just thought of, what if the riches are cursed? Sighhhhhhh. Pringles pulls out a dirty cloth in preparation of picking up a cursed object. Hmm tongs might be better...
Eeek stares, beak agape, at the sheer torrent of words that have just poured from Pringle’s mouth. Shaking his head slightly, he says;
”I didn’t catch all of that, but I agree with the sentiment of what Pringle has said, maybe it’s worth a little scouting trip? I could fly above and see if I notice anything weird.”
I mean, I knew the Alchemist that used to live there died 20 years ago but that's the limit of my knowledge. S'pose we should go out and see what we can see. If nothing else it will remove a scar on our great city.
Jayson is able to steer you towards the old, abandoned house. As you come around a bend, the house comes into view. The decrepit house sits on the highest ground in the area. Around it, a stone wall has crumbled in many places, exposing the interior grounds. An ornate metal gate lies open at the end of the road, swaying slightly in the wind. Wild flora grows throughout the inner yard, but all the years cannot hide the evidence of a well-tended garden that once sat here. Near the house, the rotted wooden roof of a water well rises out of the tall grass.
The house is 35 feet tall from ground level to roof peak; the roof is gabled and has several holes where the slate shingles are missing. The stone wall is 6 feet tall and more or less encloses the garden. It has partially collapsed in several places.
Faûn goes through the gate and takes a look at the yard, looking for any indication of something have been there recently.
Perception: 25
Edit: that’s a natural 20 - Faûn has +5 to Perception
The garden, left for years, is mostly weeds and broken tools. A single rosebush near the gate has overgrown the wall and choked out most of the other plants. As you open the gate, you notice that something large has made a burrow underneath the rosebush. Faûn, keenly aware of her environment, notices some movement in the tall weeds.
I would appreciate you not touching my friends here. We are here because I... we need a distraction and we are told you would be able to help us.
Korik looks around and remembers the last place.
Maybe we can grab a private corner of the room and have a talk.
Pringles, seeing that Korik has reasoned with the man, doesn’t come up with any snarky comments. Pringles listens attentively.
Korik pays for the drink and sits down.
What can you tell us of the Haunted House?

You don't get the feeling he's lying, but you suspect he might be playing things up a bit

Pringles, seeing Korik’s anticipation, looks at the party:
”If everyone is done here, shall we take a look at the house or does anyone else have anything else to do in town?”
(Actually, I want to go and pick up a healer’s kit, 5gp. You don’t have to do role playing for it if you don’t want to, Chris?)
Consider it done! healers kit acquired
Thank you!

We agree so we do it?
Korik pulls out his greataxe and attempts to figure out if he knows what kind of creature would make a burrow under the rosebush.
