You can certainly prepare for an attack if you wish. So far, no-one has readied an action as such. I'm assuming that you're not approaching with weapons drawn, unless you specifically say you want to.
As Jalt, Badger and Soar close the gap and come up behind Elspeth, one kobold whips its head around to look in your direction. So far, it only sees Elspeth, a tiefling wearing cultist robes over her regular armour. You can't determine what it thinks.
Elspeth, you have one very quick moment to take an action; what will you do?
Elspeth was unprepared for the Kobold to see the group - her in particular, but recovers from her shock quickly. She gestures to the Kobolds, beckoning it to come over. At the same time, she put one finger to her lips to signify to the Kobold that it should remain quiet, hoping that her cultist robes alone would be enough to convince the Kobold that they're on the same side.
Elspeth is also ready to cast charm person on the first raider that notices them.
Elspeth, you see the kobold's eyes widen in surprise at the sight of you.

It looks at what you are wearing, and seems to accept that you might be one of the raiders or cultists on the same side as it. It pokes its companions, earning growls and snarls, but it points to you and also, looking over its shoulder, indicates to its fellows that they should not alert the humans. Quietly, they stand one by one; the humans do notice, but one of the kobolds gives them a very rude gesture, and the humans sneer and go back to their own business.
Only one kobold, the first one who saw Elspeth, actually moves over quietly to where she is standing. You got orders? he asks, or maybe food?
Elspeth is rather relieve that they stirred up no more trouble, although she is fully aware and uncomfortable with the fact that their plan was not going the way it should. Discreetly, she takes a few steps back so she's not in direct line of sight with the humans to talk to the Kobold.
"Food can be arranged." She says, doing her best to assume the role of a cultist, although she had hardly any idea what a real member of the cult would sound like. "They weren't planning on feeding you? That's hardly acceptable."
Slowly, she takes out some of her rations, holding it just out of reach of the Kobold, although if he tries to snatch it away she's not going to stop him. "We do have something that you can assist us with. My colleague can explain."She nods her head at the two Draconic speakers of the group, indicating that they should do the speaking for the next part. (I’m assuming the Kobold can see all of us now that he's moved towards us? Otherwise Elspeth is comfortable doing the talking)
The kobold does indeed snatch the food away, and shares it out amongst his four friends. They have all approached, and can see the four of you, but as you don't outnumber them and are wearing cultist/raider clothes, they don't seem too alarmed by your presence.
Thank you. The food is good. Stinky humans, they give us food, but always the worst. He is whispering; from where you are, it should be possible to have a conversation in a low voice without the human cultists hearing you. They spit in the food. Stinky humans.
As you speak, the kobolds seem willing to listen and are show no signs of doubting you are who you appear.
Jalt steps forward, making sure not to attract the attention of the humans but to still let the kobolds be aware of his grand Dragonborn stature.
[in draconic] Brothers, these humans that accompany you. The humans that accompany all of us, have deceived us. He leans in a little bit closer. They are not true believers, and they have attacked many of us. And they intend on doing the same to you. Be warned of their intentions and actions.

Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Jalt Rhogar - Dragonborn Cleric (9)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jalt, the kobold scowls as he listens to your words and weighs them up. He casts his eyes over you, judging you as a fellow dragonkin, and also notes the unfamiliar look of your armour and the holy symbols upon them:
Soar tries out deception, which feels a bit weird to her but that's where she is now. She points to Jalt with her javelin.
"What he says is true. It is now time to cleanse ourselves of the humans who have been defiling the Queen's presence. Only dragonkin, such as yourselves and those of us smart enough to understand, deserve to be part of the cause. My commander here has been taking the fight to the infidels who put their lot in with the weak platinum wyrm. He slew one of their powerful priests and stole his armor and has a trophy for the Queen. But first, we must dispose of the rude, arrogant humans. And can you tell us what lies between yourselves and the camp, apart from the usual? Are there other groups with humans we should target?"
Okay, Jalt can make just a straight Deception roll. The kobold doesn't pay attention to much of what Sora says, especially as she looks a bit like a human herself (to the kobold's eyes), but his ears pick up at the mention of the Queen, and he likes that part about 'rude, arrogant humans'.
Hmmph, says the kobold. We go back to camp. Stupid humans follow orders, same as everyone. We will watch them, friend. He eyes you suspiciously Jalt. You go to camp too, yes. He shrugs. Better hurry. We're late, so you're late too. He completely ignores the rest of Soar's questions and the others in the party too.
The lead kobold turns around and he and his fellow kobolds move back towards the fire, a little more distant from the humans than before, and sit down again. The humans watch as they return, and the one by the campfire calls out: Finished pissing on each other? The kobolds hiss in return, but say nothing.
"Don't think so. Jalt? What do you all think? We may just have to attack and keep one alive to question. After what they did to Greenest, it seems it's their time. And I doubt the humans will accept the four of us on a trek back to their camp. There's likely going to be a fight soon and I'd rather us be the ones who know about it than them be the ones. If we manage to keep up the charade until we get to camp the jig will be up quickly when no one recognizes us as raiders and someone recognizes Jalt and me from the fight."

"Ive heard it both ways."
Stealth 4
Map for reference. Everyone not on the map is just behind Elspeth; I still need a Stealth check from Badger.
(OOC: This is going to go SO WELL!)
(I did say Soar would suggest everyone prep an attack for if things go south -- is that okay? Do you need a more clear description of "go south"?)

Soar has just been using a javelin as a walking stick and having it ready to hurl at a raider who starts to fire or throw anything at them.

Kobold's Religion check: 12
Jalt, make a Deception check at disadvantage, as the kobold definitely sees that you are wearing very different symbols to the other cultists.
Anyone can attempt to help Jalt, which would remove the disadvantage, but please tell me how you would help him in this case.
