I am confused anyway. In the campaign there are 10 characters, you mentioned 3 , plus me 4, what is happening to the other 6?
It is very difficult to follow, imho. Let's do one thing for my character Cyst: if you don't see me posting it's not because I disappeared but just because it is a pain to follow.
@DM: please consider Cyst joining the quest about finding out the source of the deaths and I will post once, more or less, we are all together
As for warforged, he was actually explaining why did he kill an elf on the ground (risking a war, no less). At the scene we now have Cyst, Marun, Thokk, Rusty, Maze (sort of), Nawien (a bit aside), and some NPCs we brought with us. Plus, someone hiding on the roof.

Seriously (I guess it's my fault) I am kind of lost...can somebody sum up what the hell happened before the arrival of this elf out of the blue?
That is good. You were not around the Elf (or myself or Thokk) to know what is going on. You are in the crowd that exited the Inn/bar to the current scene. Think of this as not meta gaming. I was skimming the posts that did not include my character to avoid knowing everything going on away from my character.
sure, I don't want to metaplay, I actually said my character went on the back of the inn: from then onward it's just me not understanding what's going on?
Play as you like, I am not the DM and it is not my call - that was more tongue in cheek than actual instructions. But I do not think you are "behind" if you have not read everything to date. When I started I thought I killed the campaign or at least a fellow player because I had not paid enough attention to the other stories. But I was going for a more "Method Actor" approach to RP so far. I have since gone back and reread all the entries to better understand the characters coming out to "greet" me.
People in the bar/inn, people outside. Bard let's out a prepubescent scream and draws the attention of the Inn's patrons to the back door, where they see a Half-Orc with bow drawn aiming at a big blob in the alley. The blob clears into a small statue Warforged and a humanoid that appears to be deceased in a pool of dark liquid. There is a lot of shouting, scheming and huffing and puffing going around the group. An Elf descends silently from the roofs into the middle of the group. There is the Cliff Notes version.
Oook so the way i do the rp is by each of your own characters point of view since say Maze has no clue whats going on out back besides the scream itself and seeing people by the back exit, then her character doesnt even know anyone is dead. However if nightly terror, the irl person behind Maze, read the other posts she would know whats going on, however her actual character will not until when and if they are introduced to the scenario.
So Cyst, your character followed the others out the back door and from exiting the building u walk up on the scene while the warforged is conversing with the orc. Other than that your character hasnt done much. I would be careful though humans are not greeted nicely in these parts usually
For your information, the way I'm doing roleplay in this campaign is that I try to ignore posts and information that are not experienced by Maze. If she isn't aware of it, neither am I. I am seizing the opportunity given by the Play by post format to limit my Meta gaming as much as possible. So, I look forward to meeting your character, which should never act as if Maze knew things that she would know only if I was Meta gaming.
I was unsure of how to play but I read everyone's posts and looked at it as if we were all sitting around a table it would be impossible for me to not hear where/what another character would be doing even if we weren't in the same place so I have read the other posts...again, wasnt sure I was supposed to do that but that's how I viewed it. When I made my posts I would just act as though I either didnt see/hear what I had read....but if we're being honest I have no idea how what my charater and characters around me are connected with Sumazura, Aera, OR Amygdala...but, I've read their posts and I imagine that there will be a tie in at some point. Just as when eveyones character was in the bar watching Maze dance OR Nawien waking up and my character was outside I read those posts and will continue to be oblivious to any mention of it when I'm playing as Thokk because as a character I would have never known those things. Currently I'm doing training for work and I saw Cusm reply as Rusty but I will wait to respond until more has developed just to see where things are going.

That's perfectly fine! As Zephyrethe said, there is no "right" way to play. What's important is to play the way that makes us comfortable and to respect of the others want to play (ex.: using "spoiler alerts" if applicable ;-) ). If it leads us in a problematic situation, we simply have to discuss it respectfully.
Wow... ok, so I was bored and started looking to see what else there is about Dnd to learn after being told in another campaign that you should plan ahead your character for other levels. I'm looking through the rogue information and man I had no idea there was so much stuff. I just kinda thought as you played with a character that the actions the character made would determine a lot of what they get later on and specifically for rogue class I found the archetypes to be the most interesting. I'm unsure which way I will go if/when it happens (no guarantees) because the assassin archetype seems to be great but I'm not sure about certain parts of it for later on. Since I'm new and have never leveled up a character what is that y'all who have done it look for when building your characters ahead of time? Do you plan each level ahead? Let it just happen? Avoid certain aspects altogether?
I am more into the role-playing aspect to rather than maximising stats. I tend to go with things as they come along. For example if I have a fighter who has been forced to use a lot of stealth in part of the campaign they might pick up a level of Roque if they have the correct stats.
A spellcaster who is the only magic use it in the party may have picked up techniques about fighting from the people she or he is travelling with and could pick up a level of fighter.

A character who experiences a horrible tragedy may start to lose control and go into a rage. Add one level of barbarian.
I wouldnt do this too much though , just to add flavour to the character.
Thanks Sixfoot10.

Well I am going to be going back into the tavern to get my gear. I am sure we could pick up a few more people along the way ;)
Glad to have you back, dear DM :)

No I meant collecting the existing characters along the way, not new players. It is just a convenient place for characters to meet.
