I am a rather experienced DM, but new to DDB/ play by post, and have been wanting to run a game for a while. This will be a sandbox-style game, where player characters create the storyline through their actions. I am not yet familiar with the dice rolling system, so please bare with me here. The game is set in my home-game world of Talaveroth, a classic Medieval/Renaissance Fantasy setting which I have been running in Austin, TX for about 5 years.
Players will start the game in the Nâr Barhâk Mountains, on the eastern side of the Talaveroth Continent. The Nâr Barhâk Mountains are home to the Six Clans, a Dwarven Kingdom recently re-united by King Thørnad I Dragonslayer, and his human Wizard Queen, Brie Snowborn, after centuries of petty squabble between the Iron, Copper, Emerald, Granit, Silver and Adamantine Clans.
The Six Clans are part of the Great Alliance, which was formed recently in order to face increasing threats from the Drows and Duegars of Kizzarn'ath, the Red and Black Dragon Clans, the Orcs and Goblinoids of Gûr Thag, and the Gnoll Warbands of the Westwoods, amongst others.
As war rages in all parts of Talaveroth, you find yourselves in the City of Three Peaks, a rather peaceful place (for now) spread out between three adjacent Mountaintops connected by giant stone bridges and a zipline system. It is the capital of the Granit Clan, and a strategically located stronghold for the Great Alliance, protecting the Kingdom from Kizzarn'ath to the East, and providing a much-needed trade route to the recently liberated Copper Clan lands to the Southwest
Although mostly Dwarven, the City of the Tree Peaks is a very diverse place, bustling with people of every race in the Alliance. It supports a population of roughly 20 000, which keeps growing every year thanks to the many forges, temples, taverns, inns, Guilds, marketplace artisans, and the recently built Arcane University.
Our story begins at the Sleeping Goat inn, a raucous dive located on the Middle Peak, in the tavern district, next to the Forges and Guild Halls, right across the street from the City Garrison.
As you make your way through the chaos of drunken Dwarves, Humans, Halflings and Gnomes, and a thick veil of pipe smoke, you are greeted by a thundering gravely voice. "Welcome to the Sleepin' Goat, me friend! If ye'r lookin' for a merry ole time, or just a place to crash, then ya came to the right place!"
The grizzled yet friendly old Dwarf behind the bar invites you to sit down. "So, what brings you here today?"
Sounds neat. You’ll want to give some guidelines for what you’re looking for. How many players? What level? What books are allowed/not allowed? How will players determine ability scores. Usually, you will have a recruitment thread then a closed thread for when you start the game unless you’re having an ongoing always recruiting type game.
Yes sounds interesting. What level characters are you looking for. Putting together a gnome character now, will pm the details for feedback and any changes.
Not sure of the limitations here but heck im game.
A large, much larger than your average dwarf, steps up to older gent. "Why im in need of a place to sleep and drink my good fellow guess i hit the jackpot cause you got both!" The green eyed, redhead/bearded dwarf swiftly throws out a hand "The name Fanir my good fellow what may i ask is yours?". Fanir dressed in a simple cotton shirt covered with forge residue and tinkering oil and a pair of black breeches to match nods his head slightly in reverence to the patron.
"What brings me here today? Hope of a hot meal and a bed big enough to curl up in. I've traveled a long way and seek rest." The large female goliath looks around the room.

I know this is a long shot, but never hurts to ask. Would i be allowed to roll my physical dice instead of using the site's dice roller? I'm not familiar with it either, plus i have yet to actually particpate in a campaign so i really want to use my dice. Also I can send a link for my character i made on here.
Thank you for the advice. Here are some guidelines for this campaign, which will probably evolve as I learn more about how to run it online (again, bare with me here lolI )
I will probably only be able to post only once/day (work, ugh...)
Characters will start at lev 1.
Books allowed: PHB, Xanathar's, and Volo's.
PM me your character sheets.
For dice rolling, until I figure out everything, feel free to physically roll dice and type it in the thread, but if you roll natural 20s every time, I might start getting a wee bit suspicious of your honesty. Just please dont cheat.
Again, this is my first pbp game, so thank you for your interest, and may Moradin bless you all!

Peshley walked into the Sleeping Goat with her head hung low. The afternoons petitions to gain access to the vaults of the city library had not gone as she hoped. She knew that there had to be times down there that held new knowledge of the arcane. She was hoping that the lively nature of the inn would help lift her spirits.
Awkwardly she manuvered to the bar where she found a stool and clambered onto it so she could order a drink. Even for a gnome she was short and it frustrated her that nothing ever seemed to be made to suit her. Her height was just one more thing people used to assume she was not worth their time.
Peshley slapped her hand on the bar to get the barman’s attention. “Beer please.” She turned to survey the rest of the inn while she waited.
A beautiful Silver Dragonborn female walks into the tavern and lets out a soft sigh. "Ahh....time to rest my feet a bit." She walks up to the bar and takes a seat on the nearest stool. Clearing her throat, she says to the bartender, "Could I get some water, please?" She takes a glance around the place, not just to the other patrons, but to the building itself, hoping their might be a stage of sorts where she could perform after a bit of rest.
OOC: I am a relatively new player to DnD however what I have played has been interesting. I am currently in one campaign and looking to try my hand at another. The character that I have made is Cade Overhill: Halfling/Bard (I will PM you a link to his sheet). Here we go!
Cade - Cade has to move his way between many people nearly getting stepped on and bumped into on the way he finally makes his way to the bar and pulls himself up onto a seat. Looking around he just tries to take in the location when the Dwarf bartender with a booming voice says, ""Welcome to the Sleepin' Goat, me friend! If ye'r lookin' for a merry ole time, or just a place to crash, then ya came to the right place!" The grizzled yet friendly old Dwarf behind the bar invites you to sit down. "So, what brings you here today?". Cade smiles at the bartender, but a male dwarf walks up to the bar and says, "Why I'm in need of a place to sleep and drink my good fellow...guess I hit the jackpot 'cause you got both!", the other dwarf then began to introduce himself to the bartender to which then a large goliath female states,"What brings me here today? Hope of a hot meal and bed big enough to curl up in. I've traveled a long way and seek rest.", Cade finally was able to stop staring at the goliath and started to say something when a female gnome, who seemed frustrated to begin with slapped her hand on the bar top simply said, "Beer please.", after admiring the gnome for their gumption with such a short stature decided he too would get the barkeeps attention...until a female dragonborn walks up to the bar and sits just a stool away from Cade says, "Could I get some water, please?". At this point Cade has realized that he has gone unnoticed among this group of people and sit dumbfounded as he has never seen a dragonborn up close or a golith...he had only read about them in stories and hear songs sung, but never would have thought he would be sitting in such proximity to so many different races and beginning to wonder if he made the right choice about setting out on his own. Once the bartender had seen to everyone's needs Cade meekly said, "I would like a room, please?"
Peshley watches as a silver dragonborn slinks her way to the bar and sits elegantly. Ordering a drink. She couldn't hear what it was, but she was sure that it wouldn't be too long before someone else was sitting beside the woman paying for her drinks instead. "Typical." Peshley thought.
The room was a real melting pot, not surprising considering it proximity to the guilds. People from everywhere would be coming to trade goods and information, seeking apprenticeships and appealing for help. This was the type of place where opportunities would arise if you kept your wits about you.
Peshley's drink arrived and she sipped it as she continued to scan the room. Without thinking her fingers are moving in the patterns of the spells she has been studying recently.
As she was receiving her drink, Saerirra had noticed the Gnomish woman staring at her in a manner she could not quite place. Thinking there may have been something askew with her attire, she glanced down to inspect herself. Not finding anything wrong, she takes another gulp of her drink and looks about to the other patrons once more, only now just hearing a soft voice of the Halfling asking for a room. "Oh! I'm so sorry! I did not notice you at first. Were you about to sit here? I can move to another seat." She gave the Halfling a warm smile as she spoke.

Cade - Cade having been addressed by the dragonborn directly became stiff and thought, "Ok...it's fine, she was polite, maybe she won't mean you any harm." Cade turns his head to look at the dragonborn and sees the her lips move and teeth showing and thinks, "W...wh...whoa...oh boy!", in an effort to not be rude Cade mustered up enough courage to respond. "No, t-th-hank you...I was just t-t-tr-trying to get a room key from the...um...ummm...barkeep."

The bartender looks up to you, obviously impressed by your unusual size. He gives you the classic Granit Clan handshake-headbutt salute, as he slides a tankard of ale your way.
"Moradin's beard! I've never seen a Dwarf this big in me' life! Ya must have Giant blood or somt'n! Anyway, ya see those lads over there?"
He points at a loud group of Humans and Dwarves, all of them built like oxen, gathered around a table where two of them are in the middle of an enraged round of arm wrestling. You definitely see money being passed around, as bets are placed.
"I bet ya' could make a few coins with them. That badly toothless bastard Big Rat has been makin' a soddin' mockery of us dwarves all night. I ya can shut him down, ya can have drinks on the house all bloody night, I tell ya!"
If you wish to participate in the arm wrestling contest, ROLL ATHLETICS
Looking at the nervous Gnome with concern, Saerirra asks him "Are you ok? You're not sick or injured, are you?" She looks over the Gnome for injuries of any sort. "Oh, my name is Saerirra. What is your name?" She offers another warm smile, stepping off of the barstool and offering her hand, bending forward enough for the Gnome to reach.

Oh great, now she wants to talk to me. Peshley took a sip of her drink as the dragonborn turns to her. I guess I better not be rude. She puts the mug down and takes the offered hand. "Saerirra is it? Well isn't that a pretty name. I'm Peshley."She takes back her hand and has another sip. "Am I ok?" she snorts. "Hardly. I mean I spent all day waiting for one clerk, to give me the paperwork to verify that I was able to speak to another clerk, to let me stand in the line to get to speak to someone else, to allow me to look at a list of books, to get a form to request access, to be told that they were closing for the day and I would have to repeat the process tomorrow. Hardly what I would call an efficient system. No wonder nobody there gets anything done."
