(Hey everyone. My sincere apologies to you all. The last year has been quite busy. Between having Covid multiple times, getting a promotion at work which allowed me to travel abroad and managing toddler, I was unable to meet my DM duties. I hope you are all healthy and doing well. I have found a brief reprieve and collected my thoughts so I will try to conclude our journey as I should have a year ago.)
Rawk and Erro vanish into flashes of light. Their stomachs turn as they reappear and collide in a large chamber. Rawk landing on top of Erro. There are blood stains and the smell of death sits in the air. You see shredded cloth and then you vanish again as Rawk moves to step off Erro and reactivates the teleportation circle. The two bodies are sent hurtling through space as they reappear in another empty chamber, then what appears to be a large room with pits dug into the ground with bars across the top. Before either of you can take it all in you vanish once more. Erro grabs hold of Rawk and as soon as you land leaps out carrying your feathered companion along with you. You land with a thump atop Rawks tower. Then you hear the sound of a loud gong and horns blow. The jig is up. The soldiers hearing that stealth has failed begin launching stones into the air with catapults. Some yuan-ti appear and release arrows into the jungle but as a few fall most disappear into the temple seeing the stones being hurled through the air. You see the soldiers sprinting past the towers towards the large temple entrance and provide cover as best you can until all the yuan-ti visible are either dead or retreated.
You rush down the towers as safely as you can joining up with the main army. Three soldiers are killed in a trap as they cross the entrance threshold, their bodies riddled with small darts that drip with a pale green goo. You and the officers do your best to slow the stampede but six more disappear into a spiked pit. This sight nearly halts the advance and you see down the east corridor a pair of yuan-ti who perish to a boobytrap themselves as a 10ft section of wall collapses and crushes them. Methodically you clear every room, chamber and corridor of the temple stopping only at the cave and river. You look down the familiar path you took and remember the monsters that emerged from the waters. You warn the soldiers not to disturb the water and turn back to finish the purge. In total you kill 30 yuan-ti and capture 3. Standing within the very chamber you killed Slithotep in, you look upon the captured yuan-ti. Discussions are held as to their fate and the crowd seems to be split into two groups. Those that wish to execute the prisoners and those that wish to enslave them. While the majority are in favor of execution there is large enough representation for enslavement to prompt a council.
Epilogue: 3 months have past since the temple was conquered. The villagers have all returned but have created stronger bonds between one another. Looking around you see 2-3 from the neighboring villages who have decided to stay and help rebuild. Small contingents of soldiers from each village remain on guard at the temple taking 2 week shifts. Though there have been a few sightings, the once dominating presence of yuan-ti has all but faded away. For nearly a week the sunlight has shown unrestricted by the tainted shadow brought about by the yuan-ti’s sacrifices. The village councils have all agreed on a cleansing project for the lost city of Dom-Sorn. Plans are still being formed but spirits are higher than they’ve ever been.
As you look around the happy faces you catch glimpses of your homes and a bittersweet pain settles into your heart. The internal conflict of past and present residences send memories streaming through your mind. As you turn and look around, your vision looks beyond the villagers, the trees and even the thick natural defenses that surround you. For the first time in a long time you think there’s finally a chance to return to your home, whether to right a past wrong or to embrace loved ones. The feeling fades and is replaced with a new sensation of warmth and a smile crosses your face as your vision is sucked back and settles on your home.
The smell of cooking meats and sweet smelling bread baking fills your nostrils and your mind returns to the present. Maybe tomorrow, maybe next month, maybe… but for now you settle in next to your companions and prepare to share a meal. Exchanging glances and reliving stories before, during and after the war against the yuan-ti you know that no matter your decision you have made a new family and new friends that will support you to whatever end.
(What a pleasant surprise to get a little ending and closure to this neat little text campaign! I enjoyed the lovely diversion it was during the throes of the pandemic. I have hope that we are nearly through it. I’m sure gonna miss leaching all of the books from your shared account though ;) Managing a toddler is quite the shock to the system is it not!?)
Logged on for the first time in ages, if you see this Xtra thanks you for finishing the campaign and hope you are all doing well post Covid :) A version of Darion is living on in my Baldur's gate 3 play through, it was great playing with you all during those mad times!

(I’m not removing the campaign so by all means continue to use them. It has truly been a pleasure.)
