Slizzy complies with Darion’s orders with fear in his eyes. You do what you will with the unconscious Liss’ard, though he is fairly heavy to move. The increasingly useful rope of shirts could perhaps serve as a way to gag your prisoners. (This whole adventure has been done shirtless)
There is some blood on the floor, but Darion does a good job of cleaning it up. As far as he can tell, no suspicion has been raised. The most obtrusive part so far, you figure, was the scene that Liss’ard loudly made before rushing into the prisoner room.
Darion thinks using the manky, ice-covered, dirt-infested, sweat-stained shirts as gags for these two creatures would be an excellent idea, and will attempt to do so if able!
OOC: So far, those shirts have been, if I remembered correctly; shirts, a stabiliser, a rope, an ice pole, an impromptu weapon and now a gag. Move over 10-foot pole, we now know shirts are the most important item in D&D!
I'll wait for the others to go before doing anything more.
((Once this is all over the shirts might be magic items, and you might have to attune to them from now on, lol))
Daner looks over the manacles. They are somewhat compromised from being weakened by Tempest’s frozen water trick, but since you decided to use the hairpin instead of outright destroying them, Daner thinks that they should do the trick in the short term.
Ellis had heard Darion, nodding back as he would help the others with bounding Liss'ard and then gagging both of the guards. So he will assist Darion with using the shirts to gag the two as Daner suggested to put him in the pit they came from. "That would be a good idea. Would Liss'ard maybe have anything useful on him?" Ellis would say back to the group, wondering if he had any keys, tools, weapons, or something that could be helpful in any way.
Throughout this Tempest is still in bear form sniffing the air to see if any new threats are near and looking menacing to keep the two guards in line. He will also motion to the spare manacles and any spare clothes before pointing to Liss'ard and the other guard raising his hands then his legs then contort his body into the hog tie position. (Implying we should manacle their arms and legs in a hog tie position.)
Daner watches as Tempest contorts himself. Then goes ahead and finds some of the other manacles that were removed. Grabbing the 3 extra sets, he binds both Lissard's hands and feet. He moves to locks Slizzy's feet but then asks, "Are we taking this one with us or leaving him here?"
Darion looks puzzled at Tempest's contortions for a moment, until Daner's actions make it clear "Thank goodness, I thought you were ill!" he says to Tempest.
"I think leave them both here. If needed I can disguise myself as one of them!" he says to Daner "Beside, I wonder if they will enjoy being in that pit they were so keen to hold others in"
When the prisoners are settled, and Ellis has searched for anything on Liss'ard, as Liss'ard comes round Darion will take his wand, and while muttering arcane words he draws a symbol of an eye on his forehead. For a moment, an outline image of an eye appears there in burning gold before fading away. He has cast Detect Thoughts.
Darion will make no attempt to move the rag from Liss'ard's mouth - he does not need words now.
"So, you disgusting, murderous creature I'm going to ask you some questions. I'm going to ask you what's in the sealed room with the armour and weapons on the door, south of the animal pens. Then I'm going to ask you how to get in, and the password. Then I'm going to ask you what lies beyond the entrance door, how easy to escape that way. Perhaps then I'll want to know where the underground river goes in the caves south of here, and if we can escape that way. Finally, i'll ask you where the teleportation circle goes, if we can use it to escape, and what the sigils are for those places."
While he is saying this, Darion is using Detect thoughts to read the surface of Liss'ard's mind, gleaning what he can. His step-father taught him that when questioned people often will try and push those memories away - which then strangely seems to bring them stronger to mind.
OOC: I make that eight questions, so if that is a round a question I should have two rounds left. If you feel it would take more time, Darion will focus on questions about the front entrance and the river, next the teleportation circles and finally the closed room.
If he still has time on the spell left, Darion will at the end push deeper especially if there is a question Liss'ard has more successfully hidden, or was hard to see (which he can make a wis save against) to try and get more information, in the same order of importance as before. If that happens the glowing eye on his forehead becomes visible again, making an eerie sight for anyone watching, and Liss'ard now knows his mind is being probed.
When he is done, Darion stands up and relays what he found out, then says
"I've got all I can from these, when the rest of you are done with them I vote let's just throw them in the pit, then start thinking about our next step!"
Daner clamps the final set of manacles around Slizzy's feet and starts to lead him toward the portcullis and the pits. "I think we scout ahead a little and make sure we don't lead people into too much danger before we open the other pits. If we wait until we can see a clear path to the main gate, and know how to get it open, or a clear path to the river?"
Ellis would have searched Liss'ard's body and belongings for anything that could be useful for the group. Once he is done searching, getting anything he can find, he will hear the others talk about leaving the two. Darion mentioned that he could disguise himself as one of them too and Daner said that they should scout ahead to make sure they don't lead people into danger before opening up the other pits, waiting until they see a clear path to the main gate and how to open it or a clear path to the river. "That would be smart, scouting ahead. I could check if Xopal or the zombies are in the distillery. I'm not sure if that moldly blob from earlier might still be in the cavern with the river though." he then said back to Daner, nodding. He watched and listened as Darion was interrogating Liss'ard, using a spell to probably get important information out of him.
Ellis finds a ring of keys attached of Liss'ard's belt. Judging by how many of them there are, and how similar they look, Ellis thinks that they most likely are used to unlock the manacles of the other prisoners.
As Darion begins his interrogation and reveals his magic, he intuits the clear thought from Liss'ard, "so you aren't a regular guy at all!" Darion goes through his list:
"So, you disgusting, murderous creature I'm going to ask you some questions. I'm going to ask you what's in the sealed room with the armour and weapons on the door, south of the animal pens. Then I'm going to ask you how to get in, and the password. Then I'm going to ask you what lies beyond the entrance door, how easy to escape that way. Perhaps then I'll want to know where the underground river goes in the caves south of here, and if we can escape that way. Finally, i'll ask you where the teleportation circle goes, if we can use it to escape, and what the sigils are for those places."
In the sealed room: Weapons, armor... lots!
How to get in: Magic lock; impenetrable...password... Don't think it don't think it... agh! "White Feather." (You can tell that he is holding something back here).
Beyond the entrance door: Trap doors on the floor to snake pits. Booby-trapped the whole way. Many yuan-ti. Escape? Hah!
Underground river: Dangerous! To the south. Secret. Stop thinking Liss'ard!!! (Here again you can tell he is relenting)
Teleportation circle: He thinks of the same locations that you have heard of before, but adds one- Slithotep's personal chamber. Liss'ard is always so nervous he will arrive unannounced. When you mention sigil sequence, even though it is technical nuanced magical know-how, he surprisingly knows one... unsurprisingly it is the one that leads directly to the harem. He traces it in his mind and you now know the sequence yourself.
He makes his WIS save for the questions he tries to hold back on: 11 right?
Liss'ard is unable to resist your probing. About the armory, he does not have personal permission to enter and make withdrawals himself. There's a passcode that he does not know, and there is a fearsome guardian that keeps the room. He was hoping to lead you into it. As for the river, yes, he is aware that there is a secret back entrance to the temple south down the river. In addition to keep it secret, precautions were taken. Never swim.
he intuits the clear thought from Liss'ard, "so you aren't a regular guy at all!"
Darion is very satisfied with this!
When he has finished relaying what he found to everyone Darion muses "I wonder if the full password is 'White feather, black mask'? One of the other Yuan-ti in the blood baths was rehearsing this."
He sighs and leans against the wall, suddenly tired, but then looks at the others with renewed hope "I can't believe we even managed this. We make quite a good team! Is everyone okay? I got away with just a bite." Privately, he reflects that perhaps he made the right call trusting these three, at least for the moment.
He then agrees with Ellis and Daner "Yes, I agree scouting is a good idea. I want to check out the teleportation circle, see if I can work it out. The Harem and Slithotep's quarters would be bad moves - but I wonder if the 'Fane' they mention is that big room south of here? If so, we could use this to get past this corridor. But it is a big risk!"
He will then move over to the teleportation circle with the new information and figure out it's operation - and if he can puzzle out the sigils now he has the Harem's one.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tempest listens intently to Darion talk then sniffs the air checking for guards and if clear drops his bear form.
Perception: 23
(If clear) Tempest walks over to them away from Liss'ard and the other guard so they are out of ear shot and whispers, "I think we may be approaching the over planning point. From what you've learned from Liss'ard it seems the river is our easiest and safest way out. It also allows us to save as many other prisoners as possible. If you can turn yourself into Liss'ard and make up a reason for us needing to leave the pits, like... We interrupted your snake eyes game complaining about being hungry so now we get to taste test the mushrooms in the cave... it would allow us the perfect excuse to walk uninterrupted to the river." he pauses thinking over everything they've learned and each routes pros and cons before continuing,
"While we may be able to avoid the traps at the front door, all the other slaves may not be able to. I know nothing about teleportation so I'll trust your judgement on that but if you think it's more risky than the river I'd say let's do the river. The more stops and exploration we have here the higher chance we get caught and have to fight our way out. These guys seem really tough. We all hit them with good shots and they're still breathing. There's no way we could handle a larger group if the alarm is raised. If we can get out with just our lives and no possessions it's better than dying with them."
Tempest didn't care much for possessions. He had always lived on little and carried little. He knew that living was more important than things but even at a young age learned of other's greed. His family was constantly lied to or forced into giving more than they agreed to and it was all because of greed. Now with the slightest breath of freedom his group was thinking about things. Get out his brain screams at him. Get out and save yourself. No... I couldn't do this without them. We have to see this to the end. We all have to make it out... or at least die trying. The familiar cloud forms on this brow as Tempest enters into deep thought and watches the hallways.
Darion walks over to contemplate the teleportation circle. He is certainly familiar with the device and he is confident that he can activate it and manipulate it easily; it won’t take him a few minutes but instead only an action to trigger the teleportation. However, without the sigil sequences Darion has no way to precisely arrive at any one certain place. He knows the sequence to the harem, so he knows at least enough to NOT arrive there, so he can remove it from the list of possibilities to randomly arrive at. It will still be a ((literal)) roll of the dice, however.
"We know where the tunnels take us. We have walked them already. If one of us can disguise as Lissard or Slizzy, then the rest can be led through as captives. Let's not risk the teleportation device. Darion, iis there a way to identify this device? So that we can return here quickly to get the other prisoners?"
Darion looks faintly relieved at Tempest and Daner's advice. He had been torn between curiosity and the terrifying prospect of running into Slithotep.
"This device does have a Sigil we could use - though only if we run into another device. I am a long way from harnessing the power to teleport directly, sadly." he replies to Daner.
He looks over at Ellis "How are you doing, Ellis? That was good work taking Liss'ard down." he hopes he sounds encouraging, knowing how demoralised Ellis has been.
"I agree these monsters are too tough to risk much fighting. We did well in this fight, Tymora smiled on us I think, but we shouldn't push that blessing. I agree we should go for the river; if we can safely get our things we can try for that. I had wondered if we could get into the armoury, we could equip the other prisoners to give them a chance to fight if we are caught. However, I don't like the sound of the 'guardian' there and agree with you Tempest it is too dangerous. I like your excuse for taking the prisoners down to the cave, it sounds exactly like the petty bullying Liss'ard would do. If the three of you don't mind, could you give me some feedback?"
Darion will spend a couple of minutes trying to practice Liss'ards voice, at least trying to get it roughly right!
"Let us check on the other prisoners first, get a feel for what state they are in and numbers, and make sure our two 'guests' are enjoying their stay in the pit!" Darion will then carefully look into the other three pits, if necessary making reassuring 'shush' noises if this causes a commotion and check on the state of the other prisoners.
OOC: Have we thrown the two Yuan-ti into the pit yet, I lost track?
Tempest listens to Darion practice and assists saying, "Longer on the s's and a little higher at the end like a question." Tempest was happy they chose the river and that they were getting ready to leave. "The store room has plenty of weapons inside. It's basically warehouse of stolen items. We shouldn't spend more than a minute in there though. Azi-Mas loves that room and might be nearby."
If they haven't thrown the two guards into the pit Tempest will walk over and push them in. Once they're in the pit he'll slowly he'll freeze the water around them using Shape Water 5 feet at a time until their legs and hands are completely encased in ice while the rest of the group looks over the other pits and Darion practices. If their hands are too high he'll freeze water up to them in a 2 foot column and encase them in at least 2 feet thick of ice. "That will last an hour. Let's get moving." He says when he finishes.
(Let me know if this can't be done. My thinking was: Original amount of water in the pit was 3ft deep and 10ft diameter. Even with the water we used for the grate there should be plenty to hold them. If not tempest would move water from the puddle the grate is in back into the pit.)
Ellis had found the keys and figured that these must unlock the manacles of the other prisoners, relieved. He waited until Darion finished the interrogation, listening to what he had said, nodding back. "Yes, the river is dangerous considering the blob I ran into and likely more terrifying things would be hiding in that river. I got the keys to unlock the manacles of the other prisoners. Oh yes, I'm fine." he then said back, hearing as he asked if everyone was okay after all that. Then he was listening to Tempest talk about how the river may be the safest and easiest way out for not only them, but the other prisoners too and how Darion could impersonate Liss'ard and come up with an excuse for why they would be going down there. Ellis did agree that he would rather escape out of here with his life than die with his possessions too. Then he heard Darion ask how he is doing and how good it was that he took Liss'ard down, smiling. "I-I'm alright. Thank you. But it surely would not have worked if all of you hadn't hit him for so much." he said back to him with a nod. Soon he asked for feedback and listened to Tempest, believing that they shouldn't be in there long. "I think that sounds like a really good plan with 'Liss'ard' taking the prisoners down to the river. As long as we can freeze it and safely walk on it, we should be able to get out of here that way. It would be too dangerous to risk the amoury, it is already a big enough risk to look for our things in the store room as it is. We need to get out of here as quickly and as quietly as possible." Ellis had then said back to Darion, hearing Tempest as he nodded back in agreement.
