Ellis was very surprised as Daner instead told them to hold before he spoke back to Fenthaza, giving her the choice to submit or not. She talks about how they can both get what they want, them helping her get rid of the thing that took over the temple and she will help them escape, shocked when she pulls out a bronze syringe. Did Xopal tell her of the poison that quickly? Was that the same syringe Xopal had used before, or did he make another just for her? He listened as Fenthaza told them that they could take it and kill Slithotep and she will take the temple, ensuring that they escape wealthy and fully equipped or they could take it and continue escaping but kill Sekelok in the bathhouse since without him, she may be able to overthrow Slithotep on her own after they escape. She would quell the broodguards and divert reinforcements while they do their work either way. Even Ellis did not trust that Fenthaza would not betray them in the end, listening to Daner ask that they need to get their gear back first and say that some of the slaves needed some place to wait while the rest go on, suggesting her chambers. He honestly did not like that, worried that by the time they come back from killing either opposition, Fenthaza would have killed the other slaves and then go to kill them too. He heard as Darion also questioned that Fenthaza would likely betray them as long as they get their stuff back. Fenthaza spoke about them needing their equipment but how time is short and that she has to stay behind to keep them off their trail, that they could take the teleporter to Slithotep but that they would be better to unlock the armoury and equip themselves there, how she would give them the password and that the guardians won't attack them. Ellis remembered that they had already figured out the password for it, but didn't say anything. She then reacted to what Darion said, that it would be best for her and how it's crossed her mind and that they should go as far away as they can to not put her in that position. "H-How do we know that if the others are waiting in your chambers, that you won't kill them by the time we come back for payment? We want to escape with them safe too." he then said back as he looks at the others, not liking this at all. Even if somehow Fenthaza doesn't betray them and lets them all escape, she will just kidnap even more innocent people as replacements or try to recapture them all again not long after they escape with the guarantee that they will be sacrificed or turned right away.
“I’d prefer to not keep this crowd of reeking hair and flesh in my chambers if it can be helped. Perhaps you could arm your mob in the armory and make this look like a bonafide slave revolt? All the more convincing if a few of you die along the way...”
(To cut the dialogue a little shorter and to make the options as I see them a little clearer, here’s what I am seeing:
Option 1: Leave prisoners in Fenthaza’s chambers while you four go to assassinate Slithotep.
Option 2: Take prisoners and arm yourselves in the armory and/or storeroom and take out Sekelok in the baths.
Option 3: Take prisoners and continue on your escape route as planned!)
"Thank you Fenthaza," Daner says with over exagerated politeness as he takes the syringe and slips it into a pouch. "I am sure this will come in handy. Now how do we find Slithotep? Maybe we stop by the storeroom on the way there? Just to make sure we have everything we need."
Her voice grows even quieter now. “Here you have two choicesss. For one, your magically inclined one could operate the teleportation pad in the prisoner pit to arrive directly in Slithotep’s quarters. He may be tending to business in the throne room, but he should return eventually. The other option would be to face him directly. Go through the fane (large central shrine room), past the harem, and you will arrive at the throne room. You will encounter resistance, but if you go this way you could have a chance to visit the storeroom and the armory along the way.”
"Okay, so lets go get our equipment as quickly as possible - whatever there is in the Yuan-ti vault, I still need to get my stuff from storage. Tempest, from what you said you made a good impression on the Snake-thing that runs it - would you mind coming with me at least. Lets get the other prisoners to wait in the altar room until we are equipped - then we can decide what to do!"
Darion looks at the others, feeling a little bit of confidence for the first time. The fleeing had not gone as planned, but they had shown they were capable of beating the Yuan-ti. However, his overriding priority at this moment is to collect his overcoat containing his Spell Book and other general possessions.
If Tempest, or any of the others agrees to go with him, Darion will go along with them to the storeroom. He is not as interested in the vault at the moment; his overriding priority now is to get his possessions and will strenuously insist on this. He will agree to split up if the others want to check the vault.
OOC: I won't be able to post again until tomorrow - I'm running my home D&D campaign tonight! With the above considerations from Darion, feel free to run on with the story without waiting for me!
Bear Tempest will look back at Fenthaza and growl before turning back to Darion and shifting back into his Gensai humanoid form. "With pleasure. Azi-Mas will be glad to have another person to talk to. Fenthaza, is there anything we should say other than by your orders? Do you have a piece of parchment that you could write a note upon for us to give Azi?"
Tempest waited patiently as the events unfolded and watched as his comrades agreed to a deal with their captor. While he wasn't completely adverse to the idea he wondered how well their assassination mission would go.
“Azi Mas should listen to me, though the clever thing will be suspicious.”
She quickly jots down instructions in common on a piece of parchment and hands it to you. “This should do. Now, I have broodguards to occupy. I wish you would just take the teleporter and go.”
Fenthaza slithers out and down the hallway towards the front gate room where she loudly and harshly hisses orders to the broodguards in some completely indiscernible snake language. The now awakened broodguards are obviously confused as to what just happened. They are kept from charging at you and the prisoners by repeated harsh hisses from Fenthaza.
”If anyone comes back through this gate it will be a complicated charade to maintain. Do make haste.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
So, if i've understood what is happening, Darion will set off as quickly as he can to the store room with Tempest; provided they get there without incident, he will enter and waves the piece of parchment at Azi Maz. He is looking for his stolen items - particularly his beloved overcoat; this has pockets that should have his spell book and another travelling book within. It will also have space for his disguise kit / thieves tools. The coat itself is fairly plain, and looks like a working person's style (nothing fancy and wizardy). On closer inspection it is made of fine material, though - incongruous for it's design. If those items aren't in he will look for them (prioritising spell book). He will also look to see if he can see Daner's things (I think he mentioned his armour and weapon earlier, but I could be making that up). If Azi- Maz is in a good mood / Tempest sweet talks he will of course ask where the stuff is.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tempest will accompany Darion and attempt to make a bit of small talk as Darion hands him the letter. He'll try to keep the subject on Azi-Mas rather than the equipment and letter dismissing it as some random job opportunity from Fenthaza. After a minute he'll look for his things and thank Azi-Mas for his hospitality.
Daner falls in step with Darion heading toward the storeroom. If Fenthaza was to betray them now there was nothing they could do anyway and he felt naked without his equipment. Quickly he searches for his gear with the others, retrieving what he can find, stealing on Armor quickly and buckling on his weapons. The scimitar he would hang on to for now to give to one of the other prisoners.
While he is out of sight of Azi-Mas, he checks to see if there is anything small that may be useful to them. Potions, or poison, or similar objects.
Ellis will have the other prisoners to wait in the altar room, telling them that they will be right back before following along with the others to the storeroom, still not that trusting of Fenthaza but this is all that they can do. He will quickly look for his stuff, knowing that without his weapons and not having any spell slots left, he will be utterly useless in the fight against Slithotep.
((Hey guys! Sorry for the pause/lull in the pace. Life has gotten the better of me the past few days. As such, I may do a little hand waving here.))
With the limited time that you have, you make straight for the storeroom, avoiding investigating anything else and you do not go to the armory.
You show Azi Mas the note, which he finds most suspicious and most curious, but he cannot deny the authority of it. He is not subtle about the fact that he suspects that a coup might be underway. (Someone give me a persuasion, deception, or intimidation roll to see how compliant Azi Mas is)
Tempest gets almost no chance to look around as he is bombarded with questions and small talk by the chatty snake. Tempest does his job of largely distracting Azi Mas as the others have a harder look around. Darion is able to figure out the catalogue and discovers the location of the group’s missing equipment. There has not been any time for the yuan-ti to split it up and loot it, so everything you started with at character generation is there.
Daner finds something interesting. A small crate ceremoniously decorated in religious symbols. Inside seem to blocks of incense. Even your poison resistant dwarven nostrils sting and you become light headed and you quickly shut the box.
Avi Mas is compliant, but he is obviously nervous about this clearly unusual exchange. Once he sees you arming yourselves he quickly starts to try and talk you outside of the door and wrap up the interaction.
Unless anyone has anything else they would like to do, we will say that you make it safely back to the sacrificial altar room. You pass Fenthaza who is still giving repeated commands to the broodguards to stand down; energy crackles in her hand as the threatens them with magic.
Fenthaza tells you that she doesn’t have time to teach you the sigil sequence to teleport directly to Slithotep’s chambers. She explains that you will eventually get there if you keep activating the device at random, but she warns you about raising too much suspicion.
As Azi Mas is distracted, Darion can't help but take a small sliver of liking to the snake. More than that he is fascinated by the magics that caused this animal to gain the intelligence of a humanoid. "I will have to find out more about these strange magics from Tempest"Darion thinks to himself.
Darion (who still has disguise self up so looks like Liss'ard!) gives a smile of satisfaction. He finds his overcoat, and is relieved to see it is intact. He quickly checks the pockets, and is relieved to find his spell-book and other equipment intact. He pauses for a moment, frantically searching the bottom of the container, then with relief pulls out a locket. He opens it cautiously, away from the others, then quickly closes it and places it round his neck. He puts the overcoat on, and smiles "Ah, that feels better!"
He hears Daner slam the crate shut and turns, seeing him reeling a little "Are you alright, Daner?" he asks worriedly, then gestures at the crate "Anything we could use?"
When they are all ready to head back, Darion will pay attention in the Dinosaur room, and see if he can see what creature lurks in the shadows that Daner mentioned previously.
He hears Daner slam the crate shut and turns, seeing him reeling a little "Are you alright, Daner?" he asks worriedly, then gestures at the crate "Anything we could use?"
“Not without a thorough inspection first. I wouldn’t touch it without knowing what it is.”
Daner follows quickly behind the others back to the altar room, adjusting his equipment as he does so. It felt good not to be ‘naked’ anymore. Back with Fenthaza he says, “Now we have a chance of getting things done.”
The small crate is able to be transported/stowed away relatively easily if anyone picks it up.
Darion takes a moment to peer into the darkness in the dinosaur room and he finds two glassy eyes peers back at him. Darion’s eyes suddenly begin to shoot through with pain and he develops a sudden splitting headache. He is overcome with the urge to look away but it is as if his neck is stiffening like stone. Make a DEX or CON saving throw to fight to turn your face and eyes away.
Tempest nods as Azi continues to talk, loking anxiously around the room at his friends who each gather their things. He hears Daner and Darion's exchange then shakes his head to focus back on Azi. He graciously thanks the snake for his cooperation and says, "Who knows what she has us doing, we'll probably be live sport for someone. Good fortune if I don't come back Azi-Mas." and with a bow Tempest departs from the store room with his things thankful Darion found them all and follows his comrades.
