"Guilliame, please maintain your hold on that man! Zed, I would like to ask you and the affronted lady a few questions before I can allow you to move on. Could I speak to Janny over here please?"
While waiting for the groups response, Dorus whispers to Guilliame, "be polite but don't engage too much with your charge, I want to talk to these people to see if this is actually as straightforward as it sounds."
The leader of the group looks momentarily affronted by being addressed by his first name but recovers quickly and turns to the two men with him and the girl and says, "Take our gear and go back to the rooms. We will be along shortly."
The two men gather together the gear and begin to head off along the road that will take them to the city proper; the same way Guilliame and Handleader Wallus have just come along. De Maclan and the girl then step out into the street and approach the two of you.
All four of them are wearing bright clothes as befits what appears to be their profession: musicians. Neither of you immediately recognise these leader and the girl and Zed de Maclan's accent indicates that Stemian is clearly not his first language. Finally, the only obvious weapon on the two is a sheathed knife on the man's belt.
[OOC: I would like you both to make a Perception check to see if you can notice anything beyond what I have already described.
Paul, to make this check you need to use the die rolling tool I showed you on Monday night. The roll for Dora's Perception check is a single d20 roll to which you add her Perception bonus of 2. Once you have selected these options in the utility, click 'OK' and a code will be embedded into your reply that should looks something like "(roll)1d20+2(/roll)" with squared brackets replacing the rounded parentheses I have used here. You can then continue to write more into your reply, if you wish, but once you use the 'Post Reply' button, this code will become locked and be replaced with the result of the check.
Andrew, Is Guilliame's journeyman medallion visible?]

[OOC: Hi guys, What follows is a bit of an experiment as I am trying to do something I haven't done before. Ideally, there should be hidden text labelled as a 'Spoiler' that is meant for a specific player. If you don't want to spoil the suspense for yourself, do not click on a spoiler link that isn't addressed to your character. As a player, you are free to pass on any of that information to another player, but ideally this should be done through play (i.e., your character actually telling the information to another character as part of play in this forum).
What Dora sees:
Paul, In this case, the value of the result tells me which of a range of things your character is able to notice; the higher the result the more I reveal. This may mean that Andrew's character may see different things to yours.
Dora's roll was not great so she is only able to notice that Zed de Maclan and the woman Janny both have the same auburn-coloured hair, which is an unusual shade of colouration in Engle. The native Stemian peoples—of which Dora is one—tend to have brown hair, while the Sorian people's hair tends to be black.

Just as the woman begins to speak, the door to the Shepherd's Rest taproom opens for a moment spilling light and the sound of many voices out into the street. Two farmhands exit the building and then stop for a moment to look at the group clustered around Handleader Wallus before making their way around towards the back of the building. As the door to the taproom closes, there comes a general shout of excitement from within the building.
Dora's Area Knowledge:
Dora would know that there is an outhouse attached to the back of the building. I have also given you access to some information about the Shepherd's Rest on the World Anvil site (here) and the owner, Bran Brock (here) because of Dora's past experience in the area.
She would also recognise the man at her feet as being a local hand employed in the stockyards who has been known to be drunk and disorderly at time. But that is a fairly common occurrence for lots of people in this part of town.
After the door closes, the woman starts to speak again, saying, "I do not really know. I was just sitting next to the stage while the others were playing when suddenly Oswan and that man..."—at this point she gestures at the farmer at Dora's feet—"began to fight."
"He had been staring at her all night," interjects Zed de Maclan. "The man obviously wants to bed something other than a sheep and thought my daughter was up for grabs."
The farmer, unabashed, says with a slurred voice, "I like her red hair and wanted to see if it was the same colour under her dress."
In response, Guilliame's captive says, "Why you..." and makes a sudden lunge for the drunk farmer.
[OOC: Andrew, I would like you to make a Strength(Athletics) check for Guilliame to keep this large young man restrained. His roll, and the number you need to equal or exceed, is 5.
As a reminder, and for Paul's information, a 'Strength(Athletics) check' is a d20 roll adding your Strength bonus and, if you are proficient in Athletics, your proficiency bonus to the roll. The number to be added is the one in the box to the right of the skill on your character sheet.]

[OOC: Hi there. Clearly I am in a systems mode of thinking because here is another new homebrew rule: the 'Bloodied' condition, which you can read more abouthere.
The Bloodied and the previously mentioned Dazed conditions have been introduced to help players get over the fog of war that can occur in time-delayed, text-based resolution of combat (i.e., combatants with these conditions will be identified as such in the initiative order of a combat). The existence of these (and other standard game) conditions on a combatant may help in terms of identifying weak enemies and even those who might be willing to surrender.]

Zed de Maclan turns to Handleader Wallus and speaks in a condescending tone while looking at the man at Dora's feet. "Handleader, the drunken sot implicates himself with his own words... And my man there was clearly defending the honour of my daughter. What more is there to say?"

While Handleader Wallus talks to the crowd, Guilliame keeps a firm grip on his captive and quietly calls upon his Mage Sight.
What Guillliame sees:
The first most obvious thing that Guilliame sees is the strong aura of magic around Zed de Maclan's head: stronger than he remembers Master Narim's aura as being, though not as strong as some of the other masters of the school.
