Brand follows, keeping the ball in sight if possible, but wary of his surrounds.
[[ I have no clear picture of where he is. You previously said it opened up a little. It is a maze of twisty corridors, or a more or less linear (not necessarily straight) path. How wide/tall? ]]
At the top of the initial slope, Brand finds himself looking into a small roughly circular chamber (~ 10' across and 10' high). The tunnel continues, but at this point, there is water pouring in from an opening in the wall about 6' up. The glowing ball continues along the tunnel but then stops apparently waiting.

At Brand's first question, the sphere goes up and down a little, perhaps about an inch.
At Brand's second question, the sphere goes from side to side a little.
The sphere then moves a few feet into the tunnel that is opposite the one Brand came up.
Brand shrugs, ""Last one for now: Is Rawl is the problem?" he asks as he moves on to follow the sphere.
[[ Is the ground still too slippery for safe walking?]]
[[It is still running with water, but the others must have walked up this tunnel, though any signs of their passage have been washed away.]]
Brand is unsure of the answer—an apparent 'no'—as he follows the glowing ball up the dark tunnel. In the distance, he can see a faint lightening of the darkness of the roof of the tunnel and he thinks he can hear the sound of more falling water in that direction.
[[Is Brand going to continue to use his Stone of Uplifting?]]

Using his stones to keep out of the water, Brand heads along the second tunnel, the light ahead of him growing stronger as he does. There are other inflows into this tunnel, but none of them large enough for a man to pass through, and about thirty metres on, Brand reaches the tunnel's end with more water—and the flickering of torchlight—coming in through an open grille in the roof about six or seven feet above his head. Someone has attached a small length of rope to one of the hinges of this grille and he can see the scraping of dirty bootprints on the sides of the wall.

[[No—different reality ;-). There is no circular room here. This is the end of walkable tunnel. The only way to proceed from here is up and out the open grille, which is where the others have gone, Brand presumes, because of the rope they have left in place. [[ Never fun. Had one yesterday, more to come.... ]]
[[Me too, unfortunately.]]
The sounds that Brand can hear are not close, so he slowly levitates up to the open grille, facing away from the hinged side of the grille and towards the thin sheet of water pouring over the side of the hole. As he ascends, he catches a faint whiff of smoke. He also feels the air becoming colder and colder.
The brickwork of the tunnels changes to tiling at the top of the hole and, as his head comes level with the grille, he sees stretching immediately before him the ruffled surface of the water in the cistern. Immediately in front of him, and beyond the edge of the pool, he sees the walled sides of the building that has been built over the top of the cistern. He also sees two ever-burning torches mounted on the wall and a set of stairs leading upwards from which he hears the sound of voices coming.
Then he notices two things that he immediately sees as being unusual: The first is that, immediately to his right, the water next to the rim of the cistern has been frozen. The ice runs around the rim of the cistern to near a small tunnel on the left of the circular chamber from which water is flowing into the cistern. The second thing he notices is the smoke coming out of the small tunnel.
