Original Post:
hey all, I've tried a few PBP campaigns here, but they generally petered out after just a few encounters. Figured I would try DMing and see how long I can keep a campaign going. First i would need to see if anyone had any interest. I am still kinda new to D&D and DMing but thats another reason for doing this is getting some practice. I'll be using my own homebrew world/campaign setting called Gallia. While it is my own homebrew world i will likely be using premade adventures. They will be altered to fit my world. I will probably start off with LOST MINE OF PHANDELVER. i will get into the details on it more depending on the interest for the game.
im looking for 3 to 8 players, ideally 5 players but i am willing to dm a group of 8. since this is an interest thread you do not have to have a character ready. If you do have one ready feel free to put the following information in your post:
Name: Race: Class: Backstory: (could be the background your character selected or an actual backstory) Ability Scores: (standard array or point buy [if you feel the strong desire to roll your scores you may but i need to approve of the numbers])
with those things in mind i will allow:
Critical Role Content Playtest Content Magic: The Gathering Content Eberron Content Rick and Morty Content
it is milestone advancement. hit point type can be fixed or manual (you may reroll ones for hit points), feel free to ask if you have any other character creation questions.
ideally everyone will able to post once a day to make sure that the game continues. Depending on the interest it can be amended to more or less frequent posts.
i will talk more about the game depending on how many players wish to join. feel free to ask questions.
Edit After Original Post:
(edit: there clearly is interest since the game is currently going, and as the title says we do have one open slot currently.)
Born miles deep under an unmarked mountain range was a young human boy named Boo. Boo, as well as his mother, born into slavery of the Orcs, who used the humans for entertainment. Boo was born with pale skin and red eyes, very odd human traits, so he was believed to have magical powers. The Orcs took Boo away from his mother as soon as they found out about him, bringing him to shamans. The shamans confirmed that the boy did indeed have magical powers, but what, and to what extent, they couldn't figure out. As a result, he was n't rug up in a cage for all passers to watch and see if he will exhibit any hints of magic. Or he'll die. Whichever came first. When Boo turned twelve, he pleaded with the Orcs to put him in a bigger cage. He promised that he could do magic. That he could make anyone laugh, even Orc.
And he could.
Boo would dance, sing and tell jokes, and the Orcs it all up. They put him in a bigger, more open cage so more Orcs could enjoy his 'shows'. Boo had wished they would let him out of his cage. To touch the Orcs and other human. He wished he could see his mother again. He wished to see the sun. But, deep down, he was happy he could make so many others happy. Even if he didn't fully understand how. When Boo had turned 20, a glowing elk had visited his cage. At first he thought it was a hallucination, a side effect from eating poorly cooked Orc leftovers. But it, whatever it was, was real.
"For you to find joy, in such a grim place, is truly remarkable." The elk said. "Tell me, child, what is it you wish for?"
Boo could hardly process what he was hearing. The elk sounded so soothing, it's very presence felt comforting. It felt like... his mother.
"I wish... to be happy. To make others happy."
The elk briefly glowed brighter, then returned to it's normal glow. "I can grant you this wish, if, youu will grant it for me as well."
Boo was even more confused. "Who are you?"
"I am Lliira. And I can show you the sun."
It took some time, but Boo managed to crawl himself out of the mountain cave with no resistance from the Orcs whatsoever. He assumed that was because of Lliira. Now, equipped with the elk's skull as a helm that completely covers his head, Boo sets off on his lifelong mission: to bring joy to all.
Name: Yessica Race: Human Class: Fighter (going DEX based battlemaster archer) Background: Urchin
Yessica grew up on the street, like most urchins, stealing to survive. Her latest heist has left her wanted and on the run, both from the law and the group her gave her the job. (Will add or change details depending the DM's world)
Name: Unrill Race: Drow Class: Bloodhunter Backstory: So have a custom background that is essentially the opposite of folk hero. (Infamous instead of famous.) Otherwise I'd like to focus on frontstory, adapting the character to the world and backfilling as we go. Ability Scores: point buy
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
You definitely have my interest.
Name: Finnian Race: Human (Variant - Tavern Brawler) Class: Wizard Backstory: Sailor Background (details may be changed or adapted to better fit the setting as needed)
Finnian was born in the slums of a middling-sized coastal city, and was orphaned at a young age by a passing plague. With his parents dead and prospects grim, he soon dreamt of a life at sea, far away from the squalor of his home, and magical abilities to help ward off the plagues that had taken his parents. At the first opportunity he could find, Finnian took a job as a deckhand aboard a merchant ship, and quickly settled in to his new life as a sailor. On the long voyages over open sea, Finnian learned to pass the time boxing and wrestling with his fellows, and had something of a gift for finding lost or "misplaced" items, though his ability to read people remained somewhat stunted.
After a few years as a sailor, his ship was wrecked by a storm, and he washed ashore by an abandoned old stone tower. Though at first he merely stayed within to escape the elements, before long he discovered a wealth of arcane texts and paraphernalia. He was hardly any sort of expert, and only barely able to read, but more than anything he was determined to achieve that second dream of his, and even though the tower's inhabitants had long been gone, their leftover notes and overgrown gardens gave him both the time and insight he needed to begin his studies. For a little less than a year he stayed at the old tower, until he discovered that civilization was not quite as far away as he'd previously thought.
Now with limited magical talents and years of experience at sea, Finnian is ready to make a new name for himself as only an adventurer can.
I am very interested. My first choice would be to play a wizard, and I'll put info below for that.

Urchin. Chasing Hymnal, born Four Winds Howl, rechristened himself when he learned that his clan’s treasure, an enchanted tome with endless pages called the Hymnal, had been stolen. The Hymnal contains every bardic composition, old and new, ever created by the Singing Horizon clan, and that is why the failed and jealous playwright Beck de Corbin absconded with it and used its contents to relaunch his nonexistent career to great acclaim. There is no theft greater than the theft of another's creation, so Hymnal has dedicated his life to finding de Corbin and taking his namesake back for the sake of his clan. Despite his young age, Hymnal has managed to eke out a frugal existence on the road these past few years by scrounging with urchins and performing at taverns in exchange for food and a place to stay, all the while patiently keeping an ear out for the name de Corbin, and always eager for new sights, new friends, and new knowledge.
Blacklake District. Always busy, constant motion, everybody always going to or coming from. Lot's of laughing and crying, shrieking and dying. I guess every place is like that. I admit, some of the rats get to be 4 feet tall, maybe 4 and a half, but they just add to Blacklake's ambience. Still, Mom was so proud when Corporal Knox gave us the news that I had been accepted for training in the Neverwinter Guard.
I also have an alternate build of Hymnal that I could use with your approval. Have you heard of gestalt characters? I have a warlock-bard build I'd like to test out.
Name: Cigano Race: Goliath Class: Blood Hunter Backstory: (could be the background your character selected or an actual backstory) Cigano is a goliath from a traveling herd known as Stormsheep. One evening the herd is attacked by vampires. Cigano's parents perished in the battle, leaving him an orphan. Cigano leaves the herd to train with a local hunter, who tries to educate him on the ways of monsters. Although Cigano is not the best in book smarts, me makes up for it in his fists. He travels the land, hunting monsters. Ability Scores: (standard array or point buy [if you feel the strong desire to roll your scores you may but i need to approve of the numbers])

The product of his drow mother and a devil she trapped, "subject 7" (as he was originally called) was treated like a weapon, and while he rarelt fought anything save other slaves, he was often experimented on. Eventually, one day, he heard a voice of a sympathetic creature. The Dread wolf, Fenrir. He to, knew what it was like to be used and imprisoned by those he once cared for, so he would help him. So "Hati", was born from his cell, as he ran up to the surface, looking to get stronger so that he may repay the favor to his friend/patron, and free them from their chains.
Name: Rilvar Race: Human V (Healer Feat) Class: Rogue, planning on going Scout Backstory: Soldier Ability Scores: Standard Array
Rilvar was a member of a irregular force of scouts in service of his county/lord/city (to be determined by world working with DM) who has tired of working for people who have more money than common sense and is seeking to strike out on his own as a mercenary. Keeping details basic until I know more about your world.
I'm interested, are you willing to take on an intermediate player (I know 95%+ of the rules, but sometimes I make mistakes). I can post multiple times per day if necessary (I'll make sure other players can post before posting multiple times) and live in central standard US time. I am willing to play for a long term campaign as well.
Name: Darkrasp the Defenestrator Race: Dwarf Class: Death Cleric, damage dealing magic user (not a murderhobo) but I am willing to play healer or any other class the DM deems would fit better.
Backstory:
Mountain Dwarf, was left by parents at the doors of a church in a human village. It was customary in his village to send a travelling merchant caravan to trade supplies and food before upcoming winters. The reasons of his abandonment are unknown, but most like his parents did not want to or could not deal with another mouth to feed for the particularly harsh winter ahead of them. He grew up in the church, but was never quite fond of it. It was either that or joining the army. One day, Darkrasp received a vision from an evil deity (unsure whether this was real or if he experienced psychotic hallucinations) that told him to throw a fellow priest out of the church's two-story window. After being exiled, he took upon himself the mantle of Darkrasp the Defenestrator!
Although he is a death cleric, he is not necessarily evil. Depending on what the campaign is or what the DM feels would be appropriate, I can change the alignment/backstory to fit in better.

If we use point buy or standard array, that works too!

EDIT: Also! If anyone wants to tie in their character with mine or I can even come up with a new character that fits in with one of your ideas, I'm down! I would love to have a bit of lore between players!
wow, i got 11 applicants, well the party will be 8 or lower so some of you will not make the cut. that does not mean you have to give up trying to get in. i know not that many people will commit to a game that was part of the reason why im dm-ing. so if someone leaves the game for whatever reason whoever doesn't get in the initial cut will get first dibs if i need to get more people to replace people who leave.
you can use those ability scores, but since i consider it a low score you can roll your scores again if you would like. or take the other options; standard array or point buy.

Djorg grew up in the slums. Fighting and pillaging just to survive. His best friend Hanriel (Han) introduced Djorg to the arcanic arts even though it was forbidden in the Empire. They practiced their arcane magic in secret and away from society as much as possible. Djorg was exceptionally skilled in the arts and wanted to test his abilities every chance he had. This would ultimately be his downfall though. During a nightly escapade Han was captured. Djorg showed no mercy to those who captured his friend and he unleashed his untamed arcane power to rid the baddies and save his friend. Han was severely wounded in the encounter (losing a hand and a few broken bones). Han blames Djorg for his injuries and tells him to leave their hometown or he'll tell the authorities about him. Djorg decides to flee to find proper training in the arcane arts and better control his power. He can never repay Han for what he did to him but he wants to make it up to him somehow. He just doesn't know how...yet.

Danide was found inside a waste basket floating on a river by an old farmer accidentally when he was a baby. Missing the company of his children when all of them left the life of farming and feeling emphathy towards the abandoned child (the farmer doesn't know it's a goblin because of his bad eyesight) the farmer adopted him. The old farmer's poor heart could not handle the life that awaits for his physically challenged son as time passed by. One day, a group of bandits tried to take their food supply for the coming winter. Danide tapped into his primal fury, helping his father drive them away. However, the old farmer had a mild stroke because of the sudden activity not befitting of his age and is now completely bed ridden. They had to sell most of their land to pay for his recovery and maintenance medicine. Knowing death is upon him, the old farmer sent Danide to find his children so that he can see them one more time. Thus Danide started the life of an adventurer.

Name: Danide Vito
Race: Goblin
Class: Barbarian/Folk Hero
