Welcome to Tordek, a small country on the continent of Corvaya. Some would call it "backwater," out in the "boonies," or some other colorful language. To you, you call it home, at least for now. For one reason or another you've joined up with the military. Maybe you volunteered, maybe you were seeking battle or honor or glory, maybe you needed coin, or it was a chance to get off the street and get a square meal. Whatever your reason, your part of the military now.
I"m looking for 4-5 people, to join my homebrew game. We are going to keep things pretty simple. We'll be using level 1 characters but I'll be moving you pretty quickly through the first few levels because its no fun being that squishy and after a few levels then people really start getting into the meat of their classes. For stats I'd like you to roll and you can re-roll 1s once. For me, a fleshed out character means more than powered up stats. Alignment is what you want but your character needs to be a team player. For backgrounds also feel free to use what you want but keep your character from the Tordek, I don't want to see characters from thousands or even hundreds of miles away or across the sea or such. As for races, the humanoid races are universally accepted, but the more monsterous ones would take a good backstory. By monsterous I mean, things like orcs, goblins, hobgoblins and bugbears.
Any questions feel free to toss them up and I'll slowly answer them as they come.
Class: Fighter (Planning to become a Battle Master subclass)
Background: Soldier
Backstory: It was only natural that Kelran would end up in Tordek's military. Born to two soldiers and raised in the ways of honorable combat, Kelran soon learned of his Valenar heritage and sought to prove his courage and bravery to his ancestors. He disappeared into the woods for several years, crafting his double-scimitar, for which Valenar elves are known for, and joined the town guard and eventually the military, ready to become one of the most famous warriors known throughout the land. Kelran, though capable in warfare, still has his honor, and will never kill without reason. He has even negotiated peace between armies in the past, though he always has his double-scimitar at the ready should things take a turn for the worst.
Character Name: Vappa Race: Lizardfolk Class: Monk Background: Acolyte Description/Backstory:
Vappa had not even hatched when his nest was invaded by a rival Lizardfolk tribe. His mother, sister and a few other hatchlings were the only to survive, fleeing deeper into the harsh swamps. Soon after he hatched, Vappa realized that this tribe of less than twenty was already struggling to feed those who couldn't feed themselves. Vappa took after his sister to become a hunter to feed his family, but he was too young. An alligator three times his size was about to swallow him whole, but then his savior came; an elder human woman, went by Karisha, wandering the swamps in hopes for shelter, rescued Vappa and killed the alligator with ease. Vappa, eager and desperate to help his family any way he could, pleaded with the woman to teach him her skills. She agreed. The training took the better part of Vappa's young adult life, including to read, write and speak Common which was, admittedly, much more egregious. When he was in his early twenties, Karisha declared that his training was complete and opted to leave, but not before she told Vappa about the human lands. She said if he wished to put his skills to the test and provide for his family, he should go there to accept missions for coin. Vappa said goodbye to his family, promising that he would return with money and supplies to rebuild the tribe.

Danide was found inside a waste basket floating on a river by an old farmer accidentally when he was a baby. Missing the company of his children when all of them left the life of farming and feeling emphathy towards the abandoned child (the farmer doesn't know it's a goblin because of his bad eyesight) the farmer adopted him. The old farmer's poor heart could not handle the life that awaits for his physically challenged son as time passed by. One day, a group of bandits tried to take their food supply for the coming winter. Danide tapped into his primal fury, helping his father drive them away. However, the old farmer had a mild stroke because of the sudden activity not befitting of his age and is now completely bed ridden. They had to sell most of their land to pay for his recovery and maintenance medicine. Knowing death is upon him, the old farmer sent Danide to find his children so that he can see them one more time. Thus Danide started the life of an adventurer.
Long story short, Danide thinks he is a human, only a severly physically disfigured one.

Name:Sarah nightglade
Race:Varient human (feet, actor)
Class:deep one warlock
background:urchin
backstory
Sarah lived on the streets of her home town, alone, with no place to call home. She struggled to prove herself in the different groups she joined, but was always to weak, or two slow. She eventually realized she had a skill for lying, and deceitfulness, which she used to barely scrape out a life for herself. This world of deceit look away her ability to trust others. Eventually a certain entity took interest in her, an old entity who enjoyed studying different people, and she was interesting to it, so the old entity trapped her within a dream and made a deal, as long as he would allow herself to be observed and studied, he would offer a portion of power to her, and the way he radiated with energy proved he was not lying, so she accepted the deal, and in the morning woke up with a strange orb an odd feeling, a powerful feeling. With her abilities she managed to do even better in the world of deceit she had chosen to live. Eventually however, it caught up to her, and on a fateful evening she was betrayed, stabbed in the back and left to die. She passed out in the old mud of the ground mixed with her blood. When she woke up it was on a comfy couch, in a nice looking building, well lit with torch’s and a warm fire. She struggled to get up before a pain shot through her chest forcing her back against the couch, then, a man walked into the room. She glared wondering who he was, he smiled, and Sarah didn’t, couldn’t trust it, but deep down it felt genuine. He set a plate of food down, something that appeared to be a real meal, with actual meat. She was surprised, but, their had be a great motive here, no one was this generous for nothing, but he was, he let her stay night, only asking a few questions and not forcing her to answer any she didn’t want to. The next day she choose to leave, she still was unsure but, she tried to pay the kind man, who simply refused. She was confused but decided not to think anything of it and left wearing a cloth mask. On the streets she learned a surprising revelation, she was assumed dead. At first Sarah though this could be a good opportunity for new deceitful tactics, but then a small thought formed in her mind, what she, stayed dead to this world, and left it. The thought refused to leave her mind and when the day ended she went back to the kind mans house, he was still just as friendly as before, and even offered her an available room, she excepted, and as the years went by she began to live this new life under a new identit. Then eventually, she became married, moved to a differerent and had kids, 2 lovely children, she was content with her new life, but eventually something would force her back into the world of deceit. Debt, her new husband was in a sea of debt and Sarah, knew only one way to make that amount of money, so she turned to older methods, using a new identity to make sure her family didn’t get to involved, and with that she set out and decided to join the military, the coin was decent, and the potential contacts could prove worth it
other notes she wears a mask to hide her true identity her family
What kind of military is it? Knights in shining armor? Gritty peasants with pitchforks and hammers? Seasoned regulars? Legionnaires?
Where you will be stations will be a newer outpost along a heavily forested area. It's more of a training camp for new recruits but there will be a mix of across the board. A fair amount of the new recruits will be your common village types, but some of the higher in command will include seasoned men and maybe a knight or two.

Backstory: Amylythe always knew she was going to be an entertainer. While her older sister, Engeline, took everything seriously, Amylythe enjoyed the lighter side of life. She loves to manipulate people’s emotions, and spreading laughter is her absolute favorite. When Engeline joined the army, it was no surprise. Amylythe and her parents were proud of Engeline. But when the news came that Engeline has been killed on the battlefield after only a little more than a year, the family was devastated. Engeline was Amylythe’s biggest fan and best friend. I'm interested, are you willing to take on an intermediate player (I know 95%+ of the rules, but sometimes I make mistakes or miss somethings). I can post multiple times per day if necessary (I'll make sure other players can post before posting multiple times) and live in central standard US time. I am willing to play for a long term campaign as well.
Name: Boofa Stronghand Race: Goliath (this is humanoid, but I can change to human or dwarf if Goliath is not acceptable) Class: Barbarian Alignment: Lawful neutral. He holds the morals and values of his party with a higher regard than other laws, customs, values, etc. He generally wants to do good, but will bend the rules to defend someone he cares for.
Background:
Boofa Stronghand, of the [Insert Tribe Name Here, I'm not sure what goliath tribes are in Tordek if any], is of the mountainous region of [Again, insert mountainous region in Tordek]. Boofa holds teamwork and tribesmanship in the highest regard. This is obviously a good thing for any team, but he also expects this of his tribespeople/teammates. His last tribe was politically overtaken by a small group of his fellow tribesmen who only wanted the leadership positions for their own gain.
The majority of the tribespeople, with their blind faith in the tribe stood by the new leaders, even while they were obviously being taken advantage of this small group. Boofa and a few others decided that it was not worth it to be a part of a tribe who's integrity was broken. They auto-exiled themselves, moving towards the more urban regions of Tordek (I'm assuming we are going to be in city at least partially).
Now, Boofa searches for a new party, a new tribe he can be a part of. He spends his days looking for work, either working as security, running dangerous errands, etc.. he has largely remained in solitude, but has been longing for a new tribe since his departure.
Using point buy, these are his stats: STR(17), DEX(15), CON(15), INT(8), WIS(8), CHA(10)
EDIT: Rolling for stats: Ability scores: 161712111212
If these stats are unacceptable for whatever reason, or you want me to roll I can also do that.
Thank you!
EDIT: Also! If anyone wants to tie in their character with mine or I can even come up with a new character that fits in with one of your ideas, I'm down! I would love to have a bit of lore between players!
Nadariel grew up between two worlds, his human mother died when he was only 5 years old, so his elven father took him in. His father felt obligated to make sure Nadariel survived, but he didn’t feel an obligation to make sure he was loved. Nadariel grew up as a stranger between them. Without anyone to connect to, he spend most of his time in the forest. Over time he learned how to conect with the forest, how to tap into its natural energy.
There was respect and honor between Nadariel and his father, but no love or even friendship. So when the young half elf turned 18 and was recognized as an adult by human standards, he left the elven village.
But when he came to Tordek (what is the Villages name where we are?) he soon realized that he wasn’t human either and that most people still saw him as stranger. When the army called for new recruits he saw it as a chance to hopefully find his family there.
Nadariel the Halfelf Druid
PS: i always rerolled 1s in the abillity score, i adjusted the 15 and the 12 down to 11 in the character sheet.
Character Name: Nikkoli Bervanie Race: Human Class: Paladin (oath of redemption once we get to it) Background: Folk Hero Alignment: Chaotic Good (leaning a little towards neutral at times depending on the situation) Description/Backstory:
Born as the eldest of 5 children, Nikkoli had a happy life. His parents owned a tavern, which he helped out in. However, he officially became an adult and found that, soon, he was gonna have to find someone, settle down and live the rest of his days with....he wanted to live a little. So, like he'd read and heard from the many stories of old, he set of to join the military. He figured, if he was going to go have an adventure, might as well help people while doing so.
Backstory: Before they called the wizards, and before they ignored the druids, there were the swamps. Deep, treacherous, mist-laden bogs that swelled around the rotting trees and mud just beyond the tree line at the edge of the forest. That's where we got our name; Lurmur. It was our job to go in and rescue anyone foolish enough to wander passed. The horror we witnessed wrecked my sleep at night. I watched as every mission to save a life would cost the same. Finally, when it was just I left from a midnight excursion that sent 3 friends screaming into the murk, they sent away those blasted druids and scorched the marsh with magic and fire. Its been a long time since then, and I'd like to see what my men died fighting for after many years locked in a church wondering.
Name: Trevor Alwethshire Race: Variant Human Class: Fighter Background: Folk Hero Alignment: Lawful Good
Backstory: A friend to all and the hero of his hometown, Trevor has been a big fish in a small pond all his life. His strength, good looks and charm have taken him very far, but he thinks it is time he spread his wings and find his destiny. He joins the military to get his start in the world.
Backstory: Jilrana grew up among what passes for nobility in Tordek. Not of noble blood herself, but the daughter of one of the master cooks, she spent her younger years playing with the young nobility, and was groomed to be a member of staff herself once she would reach a certain age. However, her mischievous nature often got the better of her, and a prank played on a guest of the house eventually caused her downfall. The wretched noblewoman demanded she be thrown in prison, but her Lord decided she were to have a different punishment. A few years serving in the military would break her, he decided, and immediately ordered she be conscripted. Her father was heartbroken, but Jilrana had a vision that night that all would be well, so instead of fighting the decision tooth and nail, she went peacefully, eager for this next adventure in her life.

Backstory (short): Yuno had a pretty normal childhood in a remote village in Tordek. She snapped after her sister was killed by bandits. Years later, she killed her own parents and burned their house down and made it look like bandits. She joined the military from a different, far away town in Tordek. Reason: She wants to fight and kill things.
This was hard choice and I spent a good amount of time contemplating the choices here. I've sent out invites to those that were chosen. I'm going to save the names on the off chance that alternates are needed. Thank you for your time and applications.

Character Name: Dor Lurmur
Race:Hill Dwarf
Class: Cleric (Domain of Knowledge)
Background: Soldier
Alignment: Lawful Good
Backstory: Before they called the wizards, and before they ignored the druids, there were the swamps.

This was hard choice and I spent a good amount of time contemplating the choices here. I've sent out invites to those that were chosen. I'm going to save the names on the off chance that alternates are needed. Thank you for your time and applications.
