It’s been one year since the Sundering occurred. It’s believed that “The Creater” was murdered in his home plane. The death fractured and rippled through all of reality. Meteors screamed across the sky and left a fiery trail of destruction scarring the world. Later it was learned Devas, Solars, and other celestial beings were thrusted into the prime material plane and were crashing down to the earth. The void of the all knowing deity has now created a power struggle as these fallen entities now fight for power with mankind stuck in the middle. Rumors of angels and demons alike gaining support and believers, pocket cults popping up all over the place. Society as it was known before is just a memory. There are no more kingdoms, no more borders, no central religion, no economical system besides trading and bartering favors and usable and practical goods. You are all survivors of The Sundering, making your way and yearning to carve a place in the chaos to thrive, whatever that means for you.
We begin our story in the wrecked and ravaged city that was known as Waterdeep. You have found that sticking in a group increases your chance for survival. You all have come together and managed so far to scavenge for food and items, but the city’s resources are becoming more scarce. You’re are in the basement of a general goods store, your hideout that has kept you safe from weather, bandits, and everything else that lurks in the shadows. Two powerful entities are fighting for control over these lands. Cembessa the self proclaimed “Warden of Peace” is making moves against Kolyyt - “The Hand of the Righteous”. Several cults are forming in the city and are drawing lines in the rubble. The area is on the brink of war. Will you pick a side? Subterfuge from the shadows? Maybe flee and start a new?
Looking for a group to start a very morally grey campaign. Not an excuse to be A-holes, but a campaign where it’s not so straight forward good vs bad. A post apocalyptic setting where the only thing harder to come by than supplies, is trust. Don’t be worried there is still plenty of power out there to be clerics and what not so no class restrictions. This also will not be a “low magic” campaign. Does this sound like a campaign that you can turn the corner and face something way above what your capable of handling? Indeed that’s possible, in those circumstances I will give some advice: run!
We are starting at level 3; roll stats, rerolling ones once.
Since the world has comed to ruined, so has social structure and the line between humanoid and the monsterous races are blurred. All official material is acceptable, Critical Role is okay, UA is mostly okay. Home brew is fine but needs to be approved by me. I’m also not against things like someone playing an awakened animal - We will have to work things out based on the class.
One other thing to consider for Character creation, I will allow for any race to transfer their “main” stat bonus to another star. For example an elf can move their +2 dex bonus to another stat provided it isn’t the same to their second stat bonus. This helps with people playing “against type” without feeling they are “suboptimal”. But again try to make character that will be fun to play and not angle to “break the game”

Ability scores: 101411111210
Name: Kierro Hawklight
Race: Protector Aasimar
Class: Cleric 3
Backstory: Kierro, along with his angelic guardian, Chayliel, worked to spread happiness, truth, and the light of Kierro's deity, Pelor, across the world. After the Sundering, Chayliel was one of the surviving angels, and she and Kierro now work to restore the world to what it once was.
Backstory: Before the Sundering, Arell was a successful jeweler, living among the richer merchants in Waterdeep and generally having a good life, well liked by his neighbors and customers alike. His story was well known, back then, a little Half-Elf grown up in the slums, making his way to riches and wealth by his own two hands and feet, showing that hard work and dedication, and perhaps just a hint of luck, were all one needed to succeed in life. Of course, after the Sundering everybody is knocked down a peg, or in Arell's case, multiple, to find himself on the streets once more, just looking for a way to survive. He finds himself using his hands and feet once more to survive, with the hint of luck replaced by an alliance with terrible Fae Lords. Their hold over the Peroan family had dwindled the past generations, a reason why they had found themselves in the slums rather than the riches their family had enjoyed before. However, extreme situations call for extreme measures, and calling upon their aid once more was just one of many steps in ensuring the Peroan family name would survive this calamity, rather than be wiped from history like so many others.
The Sundering has left the world a harsh and desolate place, leaving only the strong to survive. Few are stronger than Gurok, son of Gurog! Fewer still as well suited as he for life in this new hellish land. Accustom to surviving in harsh wastelands long before the cataclysm, little has changed for Gurok - aside from geographic location. Also, "civilized" folk seem much more willing to talk and trade with him than before. He suspects it to be because he always has food and water available, and not his charming personality.

This sounds interesting to say the least. For now I shall do rolls and come up with an interesting character!
Ability scores: 111512131113
Name: Telenzaz
Race/Class: Feral Tiefling Arcane Trickster Rogue
Short Backstory: Telenzaz is the descendant of Balor demon and long line of cultists that worshipped the demon Lord it served under. From a young age the tiefling was trained to be an assassin, sent out to kill members of anchor that worshipped a rival to their demon Lord. When the sundering happened those that he served were killed and the rest of the cult fled as their rivals used this as a chance to over run their hidden shrine. With no where else to go, Telenzaz joined with a group on hopes of surviving and finishing off his last targets.
Good stuff, just a note. This storyline is going from monotheistic to polytheistic. It’s based in fae run as far as geography go, but the pantheon not so much. You wouldn’t have been a follower of Pelor, but an entity very much like Pelor could be out there in the world trying to ascend into godhood.
Ability scores: 109 , well those were supposed to be worse and replace a 15 and 16, make your character with the way your stats are... I’ll look at the rest party’s stats and adjusts one way or another.

Ability scores: 101117171414
Name: Solomon Gilmaer
Race/Class: Half-elf/Eldritch Knight
Short Backstory: Stoic, determined, and having the look of someone who is no stranger to survival, Solomon fights with sword, shield and spell to try and push back against the changes afoot in what is left of Faerun. From Neverwinter, Solomon and family stayed there after the Sundering, attempting at first to rebuild with other like-minded . The breakdown of society led to the rise of several cults in Neverwinter, one in particular claiming to worship a demon, apparently indifferent to their actions. Solomon was far from indifferent however, when they snatched his wife and cut her throat to please their idol. Spiriting his only daughter to safety, Solomon fled to Waterdeep to seek aid from old friends. Unable to find them, the deteriorating situation in the ruins of the city forced him to survive first, and seek revenge afterwards...
Dwarf(hill)/Wizard(abjuration if someone has content share on, otherwise evocation)
A portly, older dwarf, Bartimeus only dimly remembers the day of the Sundering. Not a young dwarf by any means, even then, and probably have been asleep for most of the lights show, he watched in frozen horror as the more talented mages made off with riches in spell-inscribed scrolls and arcane supplies. He was still frantically practicing at the time. Something about exams to pass into some Arcane academy or other. What does that matter, now? He's probably outlived most his clan, from the impossibly distant frozen reaches of Neverwinter, so all that's left is peddling what few cantrips and scraps of spells he could find among his scattered notes. Though his memory sometimes slips, his pen remains sharp (where did I put the blasted ink?!), and, surprisingly, his belly reasonably full, thanks to the efforts of the ragtag band who have shared what they could with him.
For a bonus feat, I would have to say Magic Initiate. It just fits.
Short Backstory: Ethan was sent out to be a part of the human society, seeking to undermine them further. He found that he had more in common with humans than his own kind, so decided to stay with the human instead of returning to his people. He has become a follower of the way of the ancients, and believes all life is sacred. During his travels he has come into contact with an item from the shadow plane, which has given him a pact with the hexblade.
Race: Shifter Class: Barbarian Short Backstory: One night, a portal to another realm tore through the sky, and out fell a beastial princess. Aga does not care where she is, all she knows is her mission: To slay the terrible monsters of this world and return to her land a Queen.
Short Backstory: "Brother Gee, that's what people call me...I had another name before the sundering..." The Goliath lowers his eyes to the floor grabbing a dusty can of food, smashing it open he drains the contents into his mouth. After a few chews he looks up, adjusts his glasses and begins.."My story...I was out spreading the word of Lord Jee-hova...albeit not too successful...many, if not all souls in this city turned me and my brothers away from their doors...brothers...I need to find my brothers and return the golden bowls to Lord Jee-hova, I fear without your aid I will not succeed..."

Alright. I went with an unlikely MC to spread the wealth, which still leaves Strength and Int as potential dump stats should the need arise. A Bard would have been a real powerhouse with these stats! Character added above.

@DM - How do you feel about necromancy? Seems the semi-destruction of the world might persuade a desperate magic user to entertain desperate measures...
That’s fine. Just know that people aren’t going to be chill about a zombie or skeleton just hanging out. Civilians can be expected to be armed at all times.
Short Backstory: Ryldar lost his family in the Sundering and tells people he is glad they didn't witness what followed. In his darker moments he is glad they had a quick death, for he is not sure he could have saved them from deaths he has witnessed since then.
The hunting he did primarily for food is now for survival. He allows himself to think only about living to the end of each day. He will throw his lot in with others, but is guarded against possible betrayal.
Death will come for him in its own time. He won't hurry to it.
Name: Djorg Laantyrn Race: Half-Elf Class: Sorcerer/Wild Magic Backstory: Upon acquiring his arcane abilities, he took his power for granted during a nightly escapade in the slums of Daggerford; Saving his best friend, Hanrael (Han), but severely wounding him.
