OOC: Are we still am having this conversation in the middle of the tavern common room?
Yes but no one is paying much attention to you. You are at the center (or not far) and around a large table. Servers are moving back and forth among the tables.
Tarina picks up the dice and throw them expertly 5
"Your captain is a shrewd one but a dangerous and ambitious man. He has made friends with some unsavory people."
She looks around the table conspirationatly.
"But he is fair so I'll tell you what I know. Not far away there is a small church that gives aid to the poorer people of Baldur's Game. They call themselves the Silent Bell and to the public they are a bunch of do gooders. But in truth... Well let's just say that those that die there don't stay dead long."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gerrard:
Gerrard is unsure what to do with Tarina--she is in fear for her life and an informant to the Flaming Fist, yet she sits out here in the common room and speaks her business where curious ears can overhear. Unable to get her to move to a more private discussion location and uncomfortable with this lack of circumspection, Gerrard moves away from the table and puts his back to a wall, watching doors and windows carefully as potential avenues of attack as well as trying to read the patrons' and servers' body language to see if someone may betray their evil intent...

" So, tell us a little about these murderous friends if yours. Anyone we might know or have heard of? Do you expect these guests anytime soon?" He asks Tarina and then says to his squad mates, " maybe we should take more advantageous positions while we watch over the ones participating in the game...just in case"
Qelroth then moves over near the door and pulls his morning star out and begins to polish the head. He leaves his sword in its scabbard because he can draw and cut in one motion if required.
He keeps one eye on the door and one on the other guests and path to the kitchen.
Alkaios didn't quite get why everyone was suddenly that on edge, as if her "friends" were to come out of the shadows any given moment now. From what Alkaios gathered up until now, it seemed like everyone in this city had some kind of murderous friends. He turned towards the Dragonborn and said, "Good Idea.", and then proceeded to pick up his die and roll it once again. "My friend Qelroth here has a point. Are you expecting your firends any minute now?", Alkaios himself took a casual look around the room before continuing to focus his gaze on Tarina.
What puts Eleonora on edge isn't these so-called friends Tarina might be expecting. People can be put down easily enough usually if need be. But the last thing the informant had said catches her attention and holds it more than anything has done thus far. She levels an intense stare at Tarina before moving closer, still not sitting at the table. She doesn't think she can sit, at this moment, at least not very still.
"Are you saying that this church is raising people from the dead with their gods divine power? Or do you mean to say that people are being brought back by more unnatural foul means?"It's an important distinction to make she supposes, and one she almost forgets to make in her haste to find out where this church might be, which she follows a moment later.
"Where do we find them?"
She ignores the attempts of her comrades to find out about these people who might be after their informant. That's unimportant, and - the rational part of her brain tries to justify - not part of their mission.

"All will become equal now" | "Cause we're going to shout it loud, even if our words seem meaningless. It's like we're carrying the weight of the world"
She is about to answer all of your questions when she stops short and the tavern goes silent. The die rolls and tops but no one is paying attention to it.
A group of men have entered the common room. There a 7 of them and the leader is a strong shaved giant of a sailor.
"Howdy me fellows." one bellows. " We be looking fr a pretty girl that goes by the name of Tarina. Anyone wants to help a man out of a jam. There is money for ye if you do...."
Sir Qelroth is glad he listened to his own gut on this one. He looks over the group of sailors to assess their armaments and figure out who seems to be weakest, easiest prey to remove from the equation.
Alkaios didn't even blink when the group entered the tavern and began to inquire after Tarina. "That's certainly bad timing.", the young ranger told their informant, "We couldn't even finish our game." As he sat there at the table taking one last gulp of the delicious ale, he unsusceptibly checked that his trusted swords were still where he left them. Alkaios somehow had the growing sensation that this would escalate to violence very shortly. "Try to not get yourself killed, beautiful.", he told Tarina, after all she still had the information they needed.
Seven. Could be better, could be worse. As it is, she just wants to get this part over with so she can get the location of this church possibly churning out undead and stop them. This is merely a distraction, but unfortunately Tarina needs to remain alive for the moment. Otherwise, she thinks, she wouldn't care one way or another. It's a disquieting thought, and grips her halberd tighter, ready for a confrontation.

”Why, oh why, do the commoners insist on doing their business in full view of the public!” thinks Gerrard, rather uncharitably, after their discussion is interrupted by the sudden arrival of the toughs. Oh well, here goes nothing!
Moving over to face the lead sailor, Gerrard speaks with apparent confidence, “The Flaming Fist has business with this ‘Tarina’ as well, as our young recruit would do well to remember instead of getting distracted by dice games with the locals.” With this, Gerrard shoots an artificially stern glance at Alkaios and sighs.
”Unfortunately, all this lot can tell us is that she headed for the Basilisk gate less than half an hour ago—likely trying to slip past the blockade.” Leaning towards the sailor in a lower tone, Gerrard adds, “When we catch her—and after she satisfies my superiors with her answers—I can make sure she finds her way to you...for the right price, of course.”

The lead sailor. The captain some might say looks back at the one directly behind him. One of his eyebrow raised. Strangely enough the gesture is very threatening.
The six soldiers have an assortment of knives and short sword in hand. In their back they also have hand axes within easy reach.
None seem to have components ready.
"I tinks my mates got the wrong message then. No need crossing the planks to our death for that tart." the captain says moving his head forward to whisper.
"If you bring her head to my ship, the Uncanny, I might make it worth your while." his eyes shine red for a second.
Gerrard nods to the captain and gives a brief bow, saying quietly, “I am sure there will be at least that much of her left when we are done.”
Turning to the other Fists, he says loudly, “No time for dice, recruits, we’ve got a bonus lined up once we catch our prey, and these locals have already told us all they know.”
He prepares to leave with the others, cordially gesturing for the sailor thugs to take the lead out the door they are currently blocking.

To Alkaios' surprise, Gerrard managed to diffuse the situation with relative ease. Not that the young ranger let any of this show on his expression. In a second he was back to the conversation with Tarina, "Well, that turned out quite nicely!"
He gave her a sly smile, "So where is that church you mentioned?"
Qelroth patiently waits for the Pyre rats to leave, pretending to not be Interested in them at all. He is prepared to attack the nearest one if he moves in the wrong way or direction. He stays silent, impressed with the quality of Gerrard's diplomacy. Secretly wishing he was as good in that arena
OOC: That was close! A nice time for a good roll on the Deception!
Once the pirates leave and Tarina makes her exit the other direction, Gerrard regroups with the others, saying, "Let's head out and make it at least look like we are searching for the 'traitor'--they may be watching us--and make our way over to the false church hiding the undead. Alkaios, you were speaking with Tarina last--did you get the location of our target?"
Gerrard flips a gold piece to the barkeep, saying, "Thanks for your discretion. The Flaming Fist do what we can to help those who help us."
He then heads out when the others are ready, making a show of fanning out and heading towards the gate before vectoring off to the location Alkaios gives us.
