Meepo and Kane reach the gates of Daggerford. The thick wooden doors lay propped open about an armslength and two guards stand to one side, pikes in their hands and cloaks pulled tightly while they watch Meepo and Kane approach. They watch with suspicious eyes as the pair pass by the them, neither questioning, nor making a move to stop them. They then go back to quiet conversation and Kane and Meepo make their way into the town. The thin fog fills the streets. The place is largely quiet, with dim light and quiet noises coming from most buildings, except a bustling tavern a block in who's windows are full of warmth and glow, and where the sound of ruckus laughter and some sort of music is coming from.
Olin, your day was quite productive, offering a few services to townfolk while also hearing a few rumors. One of a goblin tribe moving down from the north was quite interesting, along with a cattle rancher who was planning on taking a chunk out of the misty forest to expand his grazing lands. Both would be of interest to the tribe. In the meantime, you've come back to the Happy cow for some late supper. The place is full of noise and people, but Olin finds a table to the side where he can watch regardless. The dinner is hot and salty, cut with a nice ale. There's a loud thud followed by a bunch of laughter as a man takes a tumble, his three friends cracking up. Olin had seen the chair and noticed it vanish, and now notices a dark figure in the corner watching the scene a bit too intently. He can't be sure of course, but he'd guess he's behind the charade. One of the man's friends shouts, "Next time try sitting in a chair.." The man, a bit drunk, and definitely befuddled looks around in confusion while picking himself up off the floor.
"So, help find more brave adventurers?" Meepo asks the man he had hiked into town with. "Me Meepo, in case I no say yet..." He says, bowing a bit as he knew some bigs liked. "Me not good talker... You good talker though..." He nods his head eagerly as he speaks. "Once get more go talk to old man and he tell what be reward." He then waits for the man to respond.
Mordekai can't keep the smirk from his face as he dismisses the illusory chair. He glances around, checking to see if anyone has put two and two together. He's still smirking as he makes eye contact with the wood elf. "Wow, that elf doesn't miss much," Mordekai thinks to himself, impressed, despite his disappointment at being spotted. He casually shrugs at Olin, the smirk still on his face.
Kane extends a gloved hand. “Lucius Kane. I’d be glad to accompany you in your search for adventurers. As for joining myself, that remains to be seen.”
Meepo takes the extended hand and shakes it eagerly. "Good... Good..." He says with several nods of his head. "Let be us finding brave folk." he says, nodding towards the tavern.
"Let's see..." Aga reaches for a small sack that she keeps strapped to her side. Rabbits foot...a hog's fang...oh, that's a shiny rock. Where'd she get that from? "Okay...one, two , three..." 10 gold. She didn't think it was much, then again there are towns bigger than this, so maybe she can get something worthwile. She will find her way to an open seat, try to flag a waiter down to see what she can afford with ten gold.
It's a beautiful moment to the poetic among us, when a bustling full room turns suddenly silent, mouths drop open, the guitar player at the front stops, and everyone stares at some new amazing and unexpected event. This is the type of reaction that occurred inside the Happy Cow when the strong tribal warrior woman stalked into the tavern with a lance over her shoulder. Among the farmers, loggers, ranchers and small town folk in the room, the entrance of a big, powerful muscled woman with high cheek bones and a noble swagger entering the room is one to stop and stare at. The half-elf playing the guitar in one corner clears his throat, and the continues strumming. The conversation slowly begins to resume, bubbling up, eyes averted and then subtly glancing back in curiosity. A pretty halfling girl approaches Aga, "Wanting some food then ma'am?" She guides Aga to a table. When presented with the gold, she frowns in surprise, and then tries to shush away the coins. "Just one ma'am. And they'll be plenty of change for you."
Olin and Mordekai are both witness to the entrance of the amazonian style warrior in her northern tribal clothing and keep an eye on her as she clumsily handles the exchange of money for goods and services.
A few moments later, two more strange folk enter the tavern as Kane and Meepo make their entrance. The halfling at the front, finally taller than some of her clientele, quickly finds a seat for Kane and Meepo as well and offers them the food options of beef stew and bread with an ale for a silver.
"Look her good..." Meepo says as soon as he sees the amazonian woman at the nearby table. he nudges Kane with a claw. "Be asking her?"
When the halfling informs them of the meal options, Meepo nods his head, happy he has something in his pouch to pay with, at least that was good for this trip. he instantly goes back to looking at the people around the tavern.
“If she’s not adventurer material,” Kane whispers, retrieving his warlock tome and flipping through the cracked pages, “We might as well go home now.” He also accepts the waiting girl’s offer of a meal.
With a sigh Kane returns the book to his belt and studies the other occupants of the tavern.
"Me ask then?" Meepo says, looking a bit crestfallen as Kane stays sitting at the table. "You be better talking..." He grumbles a bit as he prepares to get down off the oversized chair, taking his time at it in clear hope that Kane will agree to go and do the talking, or give him some other alternative.
"No make fun of meepo." Meepo says with a sigh, knowing that was just what the bigs did. He was sort of hoping this one would be different. Hopping down from the chair a bit angrily meepo heads over to where the amazonian woman is seated. Going through the work of climbing up onto the chair, he stands on it facing her. "You be brave adventurer." He says with a nod. "Got big quest, need you help." Glaring over at Kane as he stumbles over his words in this language, he turns back to the woman. "Interested yes?" He grimaces over his choice of words again. "Sorry, this no me language..." He explains. "Take to old man, he explain more. Maybe get reward..."
"Hmm? Oh!" Aga eyes widen with peaked interest as the kobold joined her table. "Wow. I haven't met one of you in a while." She says, a genuine smile on her face, then grimaces. "Forgive me, I did not mean to be insensitive. I'm..." She glances back to where Meepo was staring and turns back to him. She says, in draconic. "I am Aga, of the Ioka. It is a pleasure to meet you. You need not concern yourself with a reward, training that comes from a quest is reward enough." She emphasizes the last bit by tapping her lance on the floor twice.
Meepo grins broadly, showing pointed teeth. Then he says in Dracconic...
"Oh, I am so glad to hear someone speaking in my own language..." He bows to you deeply as he continues to smile with those needle-sharp teeth. "What I was trying to say, was that I have been sent into this town to find a group of no more than four brave adventurers, to aid an old man in some manner. I do not know if there will be a reward, but the old man will be able to talk more about what the quest entails." He nods over to Kane. "The man there is Kane, and seems interested in learning more, though he says he is not sure if he will agree to perform the quest or not."
"Bigs still teasing Meepo..." He grumbles in common at seeing the thumbs-up sign floating in the air near Kane.
"Four people?" She continues in draconic. "That's an odd...no...even number. Right? I-" She grumbles and shakes her head. "What I'm trying to say is, why so few?" She gasps, looking over at Kane, specifically the mage hand. "You did that? Wow. I've never seen someone outside the forest use magic."
"Of course I will accompany you. And, I don't think ed have to look very far. I'd say all the interesting folk are in here. Just a moment." Aga will stand up, stretch a bit and raise her voice loud enough to address everyone in the Happy Cow, and possibly people outside. "My friend here is on a mission to look for two hopefuls to fulfill a grand quest. Who shall take him on his offer?"
meepo grins broadly, now here was a big that he liked. that thought nearly had him worried about his sanity, but there it was. He gave Kane a glance and a nod, figuring he best keep on the man's good-side, since he did need four of these folk to bring back to the old man.
Mordekai had never seen a kobold grin before. It had both an endearing quality and the potential to utterly terrify small children.
"So much potential for mischief," Mordekai thinks, hoping his patron is listening. "Imagine the fun we could have with a creature like this on board."
Mordekai casts Thaumaturgy on the torch nearest to his table, causing the flame to brighten and turn purple, illuminating his dark corner. (OOC: Not sure how the inn is lit, but hoping to manipulate the lighting to cast himself in something of a mysterious purple spotlight).
He puts on his brightest of smiles and waves to the kobold. "Are you also to be going on this grand quest?"
