"Wait a moment", calls Taj. Taking two pitons and a length of string, she ties the string to one piton and threads it through the other, then wedges them either side of the passage so the string is about ankle height. She hands a third piton to Minda, "Stick this one in up high and tie the string to it. If anything comes down the passage after us, the piton will fall and create a noise. It might buy us some time and prevent us from being surprised."

Maruck will move ahead of the group with his bow drawn, an arrowing rest in it as he keep it resting between his fingers. As he moves he will do his best to be quiet while keeping an eye out for anything that is strange.

Turning the corner, you make your way along a wide corridor that leads to a small staircase, which descends into a room lined with pillars. Similar staircases descend into the room from north, south and west. The 20ft wide corridor is decorated with bas-reliefs, each 10ft wide, recessed into archways. Each bas-relief depicts a different demon - on the north wall a balor, a barlgura, a chasme, a dretch, a glabrezu, a goristro, and a hezrou are depicted, while the south wall depicts a marilith, a nalfeshnee, a quasit, a shadow demon, a vrock, and a yochlol.
In the middle of the corridor, perhaps 15ft from the stairs, lies the ancient desiccated skeleton of a kobold, one arm flung out and pointing toward the nalfeshnee engraving.
Maruck will move around the skeleton to give the strange images a once over, looking to the rest of them curiously. "Do any of you know more about these pictures?"

Minda keeps an eye on things while others move around. Then once Maruck asks a specific question she will carefully move over and check the reliefs, but more on the "is this suspicious" side rather than the artistic value of it. D20 check: 5, +4 for investigation or some other numbers for some other skills :)
Arcana: 9 check to see what Taj knows about the types of demons depicted - specifically, what if any, difference there is between the two groupings. She will answer Maruck with what she knows (if anything).
The long-dead skeleton is very distracting, and you neither spot anything out of place on the carving of the nalfeshnee (beyond the obvious horrors of its anatomy - a monstrous marriage between a wild boar and an ape with tiny feathered wings, that appears to scale twice the height of the human victims at it's feet), nor remember any particular details about the demons in question. There's a lot of them - all different scales and sizes
Continuing west along the corridor and descending the 10ft staircase into the forest of pillars, you see the staircases leading up into corridors. On the south wall, there's a message scrawled halfway up the wall, which reads "Certain death this way!", with an arrow pointing up the southern staircase and a stylised goblin face sticking out it's tongue. Wrapped around the top of the northernmost pillar is the skeleton of a giant constrictor snake. It's dark here, and there's no noise other than your own footsteps.
As you look around, the corridors to the north and south appear to be long, narrow corridors - there appears to be another corridor branching off the north corridor, while the southern corridor reaches beyond the limits of your darkvision. The western corridor seems to be lined with niches, and as far as you can tell without crossing the threshold, each niche has a mirror.
Minda asks the others, "Do you see any footprints or any other kinds of prints in the dust on the floor? I would have thought the way to Skullport well traveled."
She picks up a rock and throws it down the western corridor.

"Before we go any further we should look for traps or perhaps signs of where others have traveled as Minda suggests." Maruck says as he moves to look for signs of any recent footprint of other markings of groups that came down the well before them.

You don’t notice any tracks - the stone floor is scattered with sand, but not in any useful pattern. You do notice on the rear of the southernmost pillar, near the scrawled message, is a small hidden compartment, though whatever was concealed there is long gone.
With Wendy leading the way up the stairs and into the western corridor. It’s easily 80ft long, with paired niches backed with oval mirrors held in heavy stone frames that block you from looking behind the mirror. As you make your way along the corridor, there’s the burnt stub of a torch in the middle of the floor, long cold.
Do you want to do anything, or keep moving along?
(Order of march - Wendy, Ruvlo, Taj, Maruck, then Minda?)

Taj starts nervously humming, then realises what she is doing and abruptly stops, feeling rather guilty.
Minda says, "West it is. I'll bring up the rear, you can always retreat back to me and we'll take care of whatever needs taking care of."
She brings up the rear, 20ft behind the last person.
