Bell liked video games, but she didn't get to play them often, so whenever she got that chance, she tried to get her fill as much as she possibly could. Frogger was an old game, but she adored it, and aimed to get the high score before leaving the arcade tonight. Bell gives an acknowledging nod over to Misha and Joan when they approach, but says nothing as she's focused on getting her frogs across the road and river.

Misha held her hands to her mouth and bounced lightly on her tip toes just hoping that little frog would make it across. "Go, leetle, gorf, GO!"she said a little too loud perhaps. So many cars! Watch out for the snake! The alligator! And a timer!?
EVERYDAY LIFE / INTRODUCING THE MYSTERY / THREE LOCATIONS / SHOWDOWN / AFTERMATH
The 6 o'clock hour slowly approached. Full and fed, gamed out, movied out, it was almost time to be picked up. The kids walked to the first floor, laughing and talking about good times that were had today, it was ready to go back out into the scorching heat. While it was a bit cooler than 10am, it was still plenty warm outside. Waiting by the curb, they all continued to talk until something strange could be heard. Off to the side, sitting on one of the lower overhangs of the main entrance was a group of pigeons. It wasn't strange that it was a group of pigeons, what was weird was that they were..talking. Talking like birds would if birds could talk. But..they can't. Right? Misha stopped talking and turned her head towards them.
"Food. Hungry! Can't wait, more crumbs." one said in an electronic voice. "Steal shiny trinkets next time. Last one nice. Shiny. Perfect for nest." Another one said. Misha blinked a few times and refocused.
Misha concentrated and looked around for a moment. No, mind wasn't playing tricks. Instinctively, she elbow prodded Jo.
"Jo.."was all she said, transfixed by what was happening.
Jason was laughing before, now he was simply stare in shock. He pinched himself to check that this wasn't a dream...nope the pigeons were still talking, "We're all seeing talking pigeons right? I'm not going crazy right?"
The pigeons' mouths don't move, but you can hear them "talking". Something is allowing them to communicate, as if had a tiny little speakers attached to them. Misha sat there silently, amazed, hearing the pigeons converse.
When Bell sets a new record on Frogger, Joan grabs her and starts celebrating like she just won the Super Bowl. "You did it Bell! You set the record!" When they're in the parking lot and Misha lets her know about the talking birds, it pulls her out of her previous celebration. She takes a few steps towards the bird. "Um, hello. How are you birds able to speak? And who taught you how to speak English?"
Bell tilts her head to the side when she hears the voices coming from the pigeons, William peeking his head out from under her shirt, also observing the strange phenomenon. "When I talk to the birds, they don't literally go out and speak like that..." She squints her eyes. "An... experiment maybe?"

"Perheps."Misha said, still watching and listening to the pigeons. She slowly stood up, and waited to see what Jo would do. "Where I come from, peegeons no talk like thees. Or..at all. Actually.."
"Scientist at old ship on island!" one pigeon chirps, "Experiments. Surgery. Do you have bread?" Two pigeons immediately begin fighting about who's mate belongs to whom. Within a few moments of chirping, arguing, and fighting, the pigeons disperse and heard northeast as a group.
Jason just stared on in awe as they flew off, "Just to make sure, but we're looking into that tomorrow right? I mean, that's just begging to be poked at!" He gives an enthused grin, "I smell a bit of an adventure~"
When she hears about scientists and experiments, Bell was all ears, but before she could ask anymore questions to the birds, they had already flown off. She frowns a bit, wanting to pry more since this kinda stuff was her shit, but alas. She seems to lighten up a bit when Jason suggests they check it out tomorrow. "Uh, duh, that's my shit dude. What kinda stick in the mud would say no to that kind of adventure?"

As you go home for the night, it's still hot enough in the early evening to be annoying. You notice, again, something strange however. Along the sidewalks and on the grass is the occasional dead bird. You even found a dead cat.
(Since Jason is walking, doing a simple inspection of the birds shows these ones are not altered in any way. They clearly show signs of physical trauma, like they were killed by an animal, and they have no visible electronics on them.)
Why was this happening? Where did they fly off to? Who would know about what's going on? You made plans to get together tomorrow. This was too crazy a mystery to pass up.
Bell's tree house was in the back of her house in the yard. It was a pretty impressive tree house, built up with four large tree trunks for support, and held nicely. It had two ladders, a balcony, and was painted a light bluish green color. As usual, it was a terribly hot day, but Misha didn't show it, of course, when she easily climbed up and said hello to everyone. Bell's Grandparents didn't care for Misha for some reason, so she found a side route, hopped the gate, and climbed up to the tree house. Something to do with being a "Coming Bastard" or something like that. Strange, too, because, how did her parents know Misha had no parents? She had been raised by her Grandfather back in Moscow ever since she could remember.
Her mind refocused on her friends, and the strange talking pigeons.
Jason was already there, having gotten up early to avoid his dad, as per usual. He was leaning up against one of the walls of the treehouse, strumming a light acoustic tune. Noticing Misha climb up, he smiles and nods to her, "Hey Mish, you're looking good. Sleep well?" He doesn't stop strumming his guitar as he talks.
"Same as always. More importantly, about those pigeons. I found one yesterday night, a cat to. Dead." His expression becomes a little more serious, but he keeps strumming, the song a little more forceful, "They didn't have anything that looked like a robot, so no idea what was making them talk. They also looked they something tore into them, like a dog or some shit."
Bell's treehouse itself was relatively small, and couldn't comfortably accommodate to four teenagers inside, so Bell had taken down her explorer's map (that she proudly made herself) from the cork board and brought it out to everyone else. She was packed and ready to go, excited to finally go on an adventure with her close friends. Gathering everyone together on the porch, she starts by saying, "Me and William do lots of poking around in places we're not reeeeally supposed to go, so I'm kinda familiar of what's Northeast," She points her finger to where the mall was marked on the map, then moves it slowly to the location in question.
