Tara nods to Jax, her face still pale, but taking shaky breaths. "Yes. I can help. Focus on helping." She turns her attention to the engine. "It's a problem, think of it like a puzzle. Elemental engine, created by Zil gnomes. Find the root, determine the fix. Don't panic. Don't panic. Bless where needed. Got to find out more about that spider." She gets to work beside Jax, face set in an expression of intense concentration as she blesses as much as necessary and runs rapid calculations aloud to try and figure out what happened to the engine and what exactly should be done to repair it, telling Jax her conclusions as soon as she comes to them. After mere moments, she's moving fluidly and efficiently, the panic pushed aside, at least for now.
The group runs up to the top deck. The trap door flings open and before you can see anything the sounds of chaos greet you as the sailors are running from station to station working on the sails, attempting to straighten the ship out. The citizens are panicking in the back of the ship. You can see James and William working together handling the wheel and managing the controls. Sweat covering their brow as the seemingly work with convergent thinking and instinctively move around each other. William breaks off and starts barking order me at the crew. Jax and Tara rush over onto the wing of the ship as a crewman tosses and tinkers kit over to them. Jax’s lenses flare as he analyzes the mechanical structure of the engine. Using his tools and the nimbleness of Tara’s smaller fingers they clear the debris of the engine, reconnect some copper wiring, and mending to reshape the glass tubing. After a couple minutes of work, they feel pretty positive they were able to repair the physical aspects of the machinery. Once the moment occurs that they fixed the engine and nothing happens, they look around and see that the runes around the engine have been damaged. Deep gashes into the glyphs have interrupted the enchantment for the magical force to provide lift.
Squall rushes up to James, almost identical to William. Wearing a red jacket with gold buttons, black hair tied back into a pony tail. “No Ma’am, this machine is 100% dwarven engineering, quick pull that lever and hold the wheel here!” He allows Squall to do so as he begins to manage the controls.
Virnen looks around the deck and the wings, finding the discarded materials that Tara and Jax cleared along with some other pieces of rubble. It’s mostly scrap unless he wanted to look for something to take off the ship.
After they were unable to get the engine working, the ship has lost half of its altitude as its gaining speed and gliding towards the ground. Two minutes to impact.
“Captain! Call the evacuation! Get everyone to life rafts! Tell me what to do to keep her gliding and I’ll get you what time I can! Keep four behind I can get us off safely.”
Salqwyn looks over the activity if the crew. Can I tell what they are trying to accomplish?
Jax, having been created by a dwarvan artificer and fluient in dwarven would examine the runes along side Tara, attempting to help her to decipher the runes and recreate them. "Virnen, are you by chance familiar with these runes?" The warforged would ask quickly.

Since Jax appears to be most effective at fixing the problem, Lucky gives him a big thumbs up. Keep at it, champ! (And gives Jax a d6 bardic inspiration).
Given that he doesn't think he'll be much help with the whole engine-fixing thing, he will occupy himself with the passengers; if there are life rafts, he will attempt to guide them in the right direction and encourage them not to panic; if not, he will try to organise them to strap themselves in and brace for the impact. Persuasion15.
His Recording Stone is active, picking up snatches of frantic conversation from those around him as he goes. And all the while, he's on the lookout for anyone who's not quite fitting in or behaving as you might expect: Insight21
Virnen, Jax, and Tara immediately know that once the runes and glyphs are destroyed especially in the circumstances of permanent enchantments, the magic becomes inert. It would require fixing the glyphs and begin the entire enchanting process all over again. This would take months of work from several people at a minimum.
James shouts back at Squall “What kind of rafts you think would help us up here, lass? With that he continues to bark orders at the crew as they all scamper around trying to tie down the sails to keep everything level. They all look like they are following orders. A human boy looking barely into his late teens begins tying down a rope as the Jib swings around and knocks him overboard. His screams pierce through the chaos until they fade into the wind. “Come here girl, hold on to the wheel.” James barks as he takes the boys place and begins to tie everything down. He begins shouting at the crew to tie themselves and bunker down for a crash landing. He continues the rush about and work.
William is in the back of the ship, helping people tie down to the deck. A woman begins to shout as a child runs between the legs of Moxely, frantically running away. William sees Lucky coming towards the group “Grab the girl!” He shouts to the bard. People are worried and are borderline hysterical, doing their best to listening to William. Buddy the half Orc is currently throwing all loose items overboard as to make sure they don’t become projectiles.
Everyone looks as to be reacting normally whether it is frightened or focused or panicking while trying to follow orders.
A wild idea flashes in Squall’s head about tying folks to the listing side of the ship and using feather fall on them to slow the dissent of the ship a bit. She tries to decide if that has any chance of working or would just put peoples lives at more risk.
"This is FUTILE!" Jax would growl as he slams his fist into the side of the engine as sparks fly and electricity arcs from the area. "Do we have time to fashion parachutes to slow the decent of the ship.. or possibly those of us onboard?" He would ask while pointing towards the sails and tarps around the deck while looking to Tara and Viren.
Tara's eyes sweep over the ship, her face still pale and getting paler, and her hand clenched so tightly around her holy emblem that small drops of blood leak from tiny cuts where the corners of the emblem cut into her skin. "Jud...judging by the reactions of those on board," she manages to say weakly, still just preserving her scholarly tone. "The current situation, while un...undesirable, is not as dire as it m...may seem. A crash landing is most likely survivable, and increasingly unlikely to be avoided. That being said, we sh...should prepare for the landing in all ways necessary. I can b...bless up to three people at once before we crash. And we can gath...gather people in the part of the ship likely to be safest, the bro...brothers would likely know where that is." Her breathing is shallow, but she's still managing to keep it together, more or less.
Lucky makes an attempt to grasp hold of the girl, all the while speaking calmly and soothingly to her: It's okay, no need to run, it's exciting but don't worry - everything will be okay. It's just an adventure, right? He'll attempt to persuade her to come with him (let me know if you need a new Persuasion roll or if the one above still applies.) Beyond that, he is doing his best to support James in keeping the passengers calm and doing something productive, helping them tie themselves down and otherwise prepare for the crash landing that he thinks is inevitable now.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lucky stops the girl and calms her down, returning her next to her mother and helping everyone get ready. Williams gives a nod of appreciation.
Virnen, Jax, and Tara look and see Lucky and William helping people in the back of the ship. The crew are tying themselves down in the middle of the ship as Squall stands above them at the controls. James remains working on holding down the sails and keep the ship steady.
Squall, you’re confident that if people were able to jump overboard with feather fall before the ship crashed their likelihood of survival would increase significantly.
As the group and crew look at their final acts of what to do to help, they hear a high pitched sound coming from the left wing of the ship before it explodes as well sending the ship downward and veering to the left now. the crew hang on tightly as the passengers scream in terror, but luckily everyone got bunkered and tied down before this happened. Two dark plumes of black and blue smoke streak in the path behind the ship as it begins to nosedive.
